[Moderated by Matt Jones]

Spoke with Jai Lucas today…..Kentucky is one of a handful of schools in contact with him and his list at this point is Kentucky, Texas, Arkansas, Rice and Baylor. He says Coach Cyprien has been in consistent contact with him and that Kentucky is interested. I will have much more later tonight in our nightly post, but as for now, Kentucky-Lucas is still a possibility.

!!!!!!!!!!! Lucas. I still dont think hes even a tad bit interested in us…just being nice.
December 15th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
What does Jai Say?
December 15th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
consistent does not equal constant.
While Jai is a “nice” guy–nice guys finish last.
Somewhere between Porter and Liggins is where his ability falls. His attitude and work ethic is better than Liggins but he does not have the athleticism or upside that Liggins has. That being said, I am one that thinks Liggins should be benched or sent packing if he does not change his “I” attitude.
IF we are going to turn the corner, it will take a special player at the PG position. Someone that has the full package. Under the current conditions, why is it so hard to get interest from a kid that wants to play NOW>
Anyone have that Hunter McClintock kids number. He can’t be any worse than what we have now.
December 15th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
You can tell Billy D. wanted Jai to leave. They didn’t even put him with a pretty FL girl for their Madness.
December 15th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
WE NEED JAI!!!!! …. This kid is a true point guard, and if you go back and look at the great teams (save Magic Johnson’s championship), they all have true point guards. Its nice to have 6′7 at point if you are going to utilize him ( like post up smaller opposing guards ), but think about the last great team in college basketball that did not have a true point guard. Even in the NBA you dont see too many 6′6 point guards, Liggins would be a good point foward, but pg is not his positions. Dont get me wrong, hes not bad at pg, but Magic Johnson is truly the only great point foward to become a great point guard, and Liggins is no Magic!!!
December 15th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
I’ll take his short a$$ in a UK uniform, surely he can handle the ball a little better than our present cast of guards.
December 15th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Update about Jai should be prefaced as a “Mini-Update”.
Matt Jones is back on the tracks folks!
December 15th, 2008 at 4:49 pm
Maybe by the time he’d be eligible they will have gotten rid of the shorts that would come down to his ankles?
December 15th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Is it a mini-update because he’s 5′2″? What if he were 7′3″? Would it be a mega-update?
December 15th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
We don’t need Jai. We are fine at PG. Once Porter goes through his second Hell Week while joining UK, he will finish strong. Next year he will be a Senior with much more experience and understanding what BCG wants. Just be patient and Porter will take us to the promised land. You guys are being too hard on a guy that has only been under this new system for a little more than a year.
December 15th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
#4- I disagree. While I would not consider her super HOT, she does have kind of a sexy, Sarah Palin thing going on!
December 15th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
carolina blue….. REALLY? porter is gonna be good? i think he has the potential to not be terrible as a senior, but he will never be a good d-1 player. WE NEEEEED LUCAS
December 15th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
#11 - blueblooded - That girl hasn’t done a squat thrust in her life.
I’m not saying she’s ugly, I’m just saying that if she ain’t gene pretty then she’s going to have to do some work to deserve sexy comments.
What happened to women working out? And guys accepting that?1!?!?!?
Is Kige Ramsey multiplying?
December 15th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
#11 ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww *throws up a bit in mouth*
December 15th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
Why did Jai leave Florida?
December 15th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
#15 - benfrick - The team went to Disney World and Jai wasn’t allowed to ride any of the adult rides.
It all went downhill from there.
December 15th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
Maybe I missed it but will Florida let him transfer to Kentucky?
December 15th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
#17 - fiddlerky - As far as I know Billy Donovan is at the waffle house enjoying a waffle as he waffles on the decision.
Mini-Update #2 - He said he would allow Jai to transfer “anywhere” he wants.
December 15th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
To quote a source: “UK is not nearly as interested as Lucas and his family are interested in UK.” Also, the staff is high on Vilarino and has had to give him frequent assurances that he is the man for lead guard presuming he will put forth the effort.
December 15th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
Im really hoping we get lucas but for this year all i want out of the point guard whoever it ends up being is someone who plays good defense doesn’t turn the ball over and knows that patterson is the star of the team.
December 15th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
Still don’t understand why we would be an option unless Liggins is leaving(I DO NOT WANT HIM TO LEAVE). Lucas left because they chose to go with a tall guard at the point in Calathes. Wouldn’t he have the same issue here?
No offense to Lucas because I believe he is good, but he does not create match-up problems for any team. Any guard in the country can guard him. Liggins on the other hand creates incredible match-up problems for any team as long as Liggins plays smart.
December 15th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
i hope we get lucas b/c we need someone on this team to keep liggins honest.
his attitude towards Coach G (refusing to enter the game, mouthing-off, allegedly showing up late to the game) and his erratic play show that he’s not concerned about his status as the best guard on the team. until he’s scared about his job, he’s going to be a problem i think.
December 15th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
Again guys, Vilarino is the one. Point guard. He’s a worker, obedient, smart, not to mention lightning fast and a leaper. The staff absolutely loves this kid and have been known to rewind and rewatch his tapes with anticipation more than any other recruit thus far.
December 15th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
brucewayne–I wish there were a “LOL” button on the keyboard. I was not in the least bit serious about my comments at #10.
That being said, I don’t like Jai as a choice either. There has to be better options.
If Liggins is gone and we can not land a PG that can step in for next year, we will see a lot more of Porter and that is not the answer.
December 15th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
wow what an update

We need to offer Lucas a spot–just in case things don’t work out with Liggins. Porter and an incoming freshman next year will not help us win next year. Lucas could come on board mid-season and solidify our real weakness: guard play. I say we get him–NOW!!!!!
December 15th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
#10 is on paoti
December 15th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
if you guys don’t think Lucas would help–you are crazy!
how have any of our current PGs given anyone confidence enough to say that we don’t need a McDonald AA point guard.
Liggins is not the answer–hell nobody knows for sure if he’ll even be here next year. he looks like a SF to me.
great in the open court, but hasn’t shown the ability to get much of a half court set going and doesn’t appear to be able to take anyone off the dribble. plus all the other crap that has been going on.
Lucas is a smart player that can handle, pass and shoot.
also everybody acts like having a 6′6″ pg is the best thing in the world, but if he isn’t quick, can’t stay in front of smaller guards, and isn’t quick enough to beat anyone off the dribble–why would he be our starting PG?
I know that Vilarino is coming next year and looks to be a great college player, he’s still gonna be a freshman–it will take time for him to develop.
he’s no Derrick Rose, a guy thats going to come in and dominate.
next year is important for us, we have the chance to be really good, FF good–if we can cut down the TOs and have solid PG play. Lucas could be that guy.
December 15th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
#23 and you heard that from who???? I will take experience over a newbie…. Very rarely will a freshman come in and dominate…
December 15th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
#28, do you mean peyote?
Are you on EllEssDee?
December 15th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Yeah have to say I find it hard to believe Vilarino is the most anticipated recruit of BIlly’s recruiting classes. I hope I am wrong. He does sound like a good kid who will work hard. I’m looking forward to having him on the team. But the most anticipated?
December 15th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
hey look at it this way what do we honestly have to lose?
December 15th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
I can’t tell you who told me, you kidding? I heard from an individual who works with BCG, let’s just say that. And really, one need not dominate to stat at PG, he just needs to distribute and make plays. Look around him (Hood, Meeks, Stevenson, Patterson), he won’t need to dominate, the others will do that for him.
December 15th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Matt Walsh’s….–did you not read further where I mentioned it was tongue and cheek? Read #24

[...] At Kentucky Sports Radio, Matt Jones has a Jai Lucas update, that states that yes, there is mutual interest between the Cats and the tiny guard. [...]
December 16th, 2008 at 10:40 am
Lucas should have come with Patterson to UK as a Freshman. Liggins has far more upside in my opinion. By the time Lucas is able to play Liggins will have exceeded his skill level.
December 16th, 2008 at 10:50 am
Jai your a great ball player and would love to see you in the Kentucky blue. but I can’t take another year of this sh#@% got better things to do than deal with this drama. Like Earnest Miller used to say in the WCW save the drama for yo mama. don’t burn us agian either commit or go on to Texas.
December 16th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
In my opinion - that (Lucas) shipped has sailed. He made his choice.
