Big, big news. According to Jim Tirey at TCP, Kentucky got a commitment from WR Chris Matthews, the young man we wrote about earlier today. Matthews is an EXPLOSIVE 4 star receiver who would immediately jump to the top of the WR depth chart at UK the moment he arrived on campus. This is HUGE news for the program and one of the 3 or 4 biggest gets of the recruiting year.

just when i thought this cici’s pizza couldnt get any better….this happens. great news.
December 15th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
Awesome. UK football continues to grow strong.
December 15th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
Yeah that’s a huge get. With Randall Cobb out there and hopefully some development of the freshmen along with the rest of the WR recruits, hopefully WR won’t be an issue next year.
December 15th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
(Insert MSNBC/Hardball/Pennsylvania joke here.)
December 15th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
I’m not getting overly excited although I really am. Remember, Stevie was pretty lost his first year out of Juco. Dicky says it takes a year to take in the system. I am excited that Newton is attending QB meetings already after basketball games. Un-freakin-believable. He’s Kentucky’s #1 recruiter.
Hopefully the NFL says “wait 1 more year” to Jarmon, Lindley, and Johnson!!!! PLEASE COME BACK AND DOMINATE GUYS!
I’ve got morning wood at 8:20!
December 15th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
When you say top the depth chart next year, is that over Randall Cobb or not (assuming Morgan Newton or Ryan Mossakowski takes over at QB)?
December 15th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
2 more big uglies for the D line and a Braxton Kelly clone and the future looks bright for our Big Blue!
December 15th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
5, that my friend is just a good old fashion sports boner
December 15th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
1: Doesn’t that junk wreck your bowels?
A great get for the cats, though you’d think landing a couple decent WR’s wouldn’t be that tough.
December 15th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Has Brooks said anything about Duante Mason? I know he worked at QB this year. He’s big and fast. I haven’t heard much about him. What position could he play besides QB? Right now, they’ll have 5 QBs next year not counting Cobb.
December 15th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
Nice catch!
December 15th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Epic mustache.
December 15th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
OK. as 8 said, I’ve got a football boner right now. Somebody give me us a run-down on a couple of guys.
*EJ Fields: I think he redshirted
*Who in the world is going to play LB next season if Johnson leaves besides Maxwell?
*Can Winston Guy play corner? I heard that was where he was heading. Warford/Guy on the corners?
*It seems suddenly that we’ll have tons of WR? EJ Adams back to DB b/c he sure can’t catch the ball.
December 15th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
great job to brooks and company. if we ask the ncaa nicely, do you think they would let him play in memphis next month???
December 15th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
hells yeah.
December 15th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
This is Fantastica News! (That’s a combination of the cleaning solution and Battlestar Galactica for those)
Won’t Boyd be ready after being in the system for one year and not having the mono issue that slowed him down at the start of the season?
I see:
Cobb/Boyd/Matthews and anyone else who wants to step up to the plate something to look forward to for the next 3 - 4 years.
December 15th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Awesome news starting to feel a little better about our WR next year. When can he get on campus in time for spring semester or just the beginning of summer?
December 15th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
NICE…. who going to be starting QG next year any picks???
WE WANT DEUCE BABY BRING HIM IN HE HAS THE FIRE POWER AT UK!!!
December 15th, 2008 at 9:46 pm

Are we outta school tomorrow?
Thanks.
December 15th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
I’m pumped! Big Get!
December 15th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
This guy is not a cat yet. he’s still taking other visits; it’s a soft verbal..nothing set in stone.
December 15th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Whatever happened to the 4 star WR out of Delaware that Morgan Newton’s dad talked about on ESPN earlier in the year? Is he still considering the Cats? I think his name is Justin Brown???
I am expecting much of the same from the offense next year as we try and transition one of the freshmen qaurterbacks. However, once Boyd/Cobb/Lanxter/Matthews are juniors and seniors our offense should once again be one of the top offenses in the SEC. Also, I hope Duece Finch commits and puts up numbers like Vic Anderson.
December 15th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
hey you guys, go talk about your boners somewhere else.
December 15th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Oh lord Beisner, Cici’s is nasty!

yeah Duece Finch gets no love on this site!!! if UK gets him that would be huge because he basically WAS St X’s offense. He’s and underrated 3-star recruit and if he played better competition in high school he would have another star next to his name.
December 15th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Thanks 25. Damn I was hoping we had a chance with him. I thought we would be able to entice him with immediate playing time and a chance to become a big star early. Stealing Deuce out of Louisville’s backyard would make it even sweeter and hopefully give us a better chance with future St. X kids.

career high for rondo tonight
December 15th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
Finch has the speed and physicality to be a dominant player. He reminds me of Artose Pinner back in the day. Plus, the guy won player of the year in kentucky despite the multiple injuries he had this year. He would be a GREAT addition
December 15th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Looks like we have the targets, let’s see how Newton can sling it around.
December 15th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
This just in: Michael Hartline and Will Fidler were seen pounding white castles and chocolate milk shakes in attempt to make it as offensive guards next year.
December 15th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Anybody see that beyond half court shot from Cleveland St. to beat Syracuse?
December 15th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
yawn!!
December 15th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
Playin for the Cats is better than running for senate….if he’s as good as I believe he could do both.
December 15th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
agreed, 33
December 16th, 2008 at 12:01 am
Anybody looked at the NBA D-League stats lately?? Erik Daniels is posting some serious numbers… Plus he is covered in hideous tattoos all over his body

OK #4 here goes…..
I’m getting a tingly feeling down my leg…….or
I don’t see how a MSNBC anchor is going to help our receiving corp……or
Chris Matthews begins his campaign in the Bluegrass State……
December 16th, 2008 at 8:01 am
OUTstanding!
December 16th, 2008 at 8:42 am
This is great news and it addresses a gaping hatchet wound on our depth chart, but MUCH better QB play is essential next year. I really hope these freshmen can step in and dominate.
December 16th, 2008 at 9:19 am
So does this mean that UK football is now playing “Hardball”?
December 16th, 2008 at 9:30 am
Matthews to the left Randy to the right. Newton slinging Tim couch esk bombs, or dropping his shoulder and running Pat White style? very excite.
December 16th, 2008 at 10:31 am
I think every one is counting their chickens a little to early in naming Newton the starting QB. Hartline will still be 1st option until the 2 new guys learn the system. But, don’t be supprised if Mossakowski wins the starting position. He is that Pro style QB that Joker loves in his system. I think he may be big time.
December 16th, 2008 at 10:35 am
42.) Mossakowski had reconstructive shoulder surgery, I would say the generaly consesus is to redshirt him, and let our elite trainers get him up to par!!
