As we all continue our focus on basketball and the goings on in Louisville yesterday, lets not forget our football team and their great performance in Memphis on Friday. With the team finishing a third straight winning season, it is important to look to next year and the potential fate of the three Juniors considering the NFL Draft. I spoke yesterday with someone who is very close to the situation and what the young men will be thinking and this was his early indication as to the likely status of the three defensive Juniors:
Trevard Lindley: Most likely gone to the Draft. People forget that Lindley is older than most of his classmates as he greyshirted and then redshirted. He is projected currently around the second round and unless his injury is somehow more serious than expected, he is likely to enter the draft.
Micah Johnson: Most indications are that he would prefer to enter the draft if possible and if it were likely that he would be a first day pick. Right now however he is probably projected later (5th Round or so) and if that is the case, he likely returns. This will probably come to the end with Micah before a final decision is made.
Jeremy Jarmon: He did put his papers in, but the likely scenario now involves a return. If it were a no-brainer to leave (first or second round pick), Jarmon would likely go ahead and enter the draft, but plans now are for him to return.
That is where we are now from a person who is very close to the situation and the individuals. This of course can (and will) change, but it gives some notion of how the defense will look next season.

Sounds like what we’ve been hearing all along. Lindley gone, Micah wants to be, but still needs some improvement, particularly in pass coverage and Jarmon likely back as he had a quiet year.

I love the fact that we are talking UK football in January. Blue/White game only a few months away. Tailgating and attending football is much more fun than going to a basketball game. I love basketball as much as the next person, but it is time people recognize the accomplishments of this football program and enjoy the moment. Talking basketball 24/7 is insane and boring.

Fire billy gillispie!!!!!!!!!Ok maybe not but could one billy g supporter explain to me why galloway is good enough to start but only plays 4 minutes?Or why we played landon slone like he was gonna be the m.v.p. then he doesn’t get any minutes in a real game?Maybe someone could point out a non tubby recruit who looks like he knows the difference between basketball and football right now!Im sorry but patterson was tubbys meeks was tubbys and stevenson was tubbys!BRING BACK THE TUB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 5th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
Actually, 2Pat was not really a Tubby recruit. No one really knows if he would have committed to UK with Tubby at the helm, or not.
I wish that people would keep in mind that Tubby left of his own free will. He was not fired.

Is maggard an ONION?
January 5th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
That’s right, TUBBY ran away. Fled, was skeered. Tubby deserted us. Tubby would have us with a whole team full of Carters, Porters and Harris’s. Oh wait, he did!!

Makes you wonder if BCG evaluated the talent before he said “yes”.
January 5th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
7)BCG’s substitution patterns puzzle me too. I am going to trust him though and believe that he knows how to get this team where it wants to go. He did explain the reason for having the five on the floor that were so much yesterday. He said that they understand their role and guys like Liggins, Galloway, and Jorts really don’t yet. But I do wish guys like Galloway and Liggins would at least get 15 mins. a piece. We could be so deep.
January 5th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
#7 Is it really that hard to understand that Slone (and Krebs, Dwight Perry, Halsell) play more minutes against the likes of a Florida Atlantic or Central Michigan than against UofL or UNC?? Ever think that Slone looked like an MVP because of the teams we were playing? Nothing against Slone…
So you are saying that Patterson plays so well because of the Tubby effect? Just the mere fact that Tubby recruited him (didn’t sign him LET ALONE COACH HIM for one minute) makes him Tubby’s? I don’t look at this team as Tubby’s kids, or Billy’s kids. They are all BG’s kids now.
January 5th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
Matt: I was wondering if we could have an update on bball recruiting. Any potential players in 2009 that are still in the mix? Only 3 signees seems small compared to other schools and keeps us from having a top recruiting class. I know scholarships are few and far between, but you never know, some folks might be asked to leave, walk on etc.

Can anyone explain why we get zero votes for the Top 25. I’m not saying we should be in it, but a few votes would be justified. We’ve lost to 3 ranked team and had one fluke loss. We played two of those ranked team to the final minute. And no matter what kind of season UofL is having they were a great team yesterday. 55% from 3 and 82% FTs for the game when their season averages are 30% and 64% respectively is a vast improvement that makes them a Top 10 team. If they had shot like that every game, they would be undefeated.
January 5th, 2009 at 3:32 pm
15. Might I add to that that the “fluke” that we lost to is projected by Joe Lunardi to go dancing.
January 5th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
i think that talking football in january in kentucky is a wonderful thing. the fact that we have three defensive guys that have a hypothetical future in the NFL is a great thing and really speaks volumes of rich brooks. also the fact that none of you can think 10 feet past basketball is truly maddening.
January 5th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
#7 I understand some of your frustration but how we forget that we
were going no where under Tubby. Stevenson sucked under Tubby and I
give Gillispie full credit for developing Stevenson.
Fact is if Gillispie was here 3 years ago, Stevenson nor Porter would
be on this team. We would have better players playing those positions
and they would be very experienced right now.
January 5th, 2009 at 3:51 pm
If Tubby was here we probably wouldn’t have Patterson, nor Liggins,I know
we wouldn’t have Miller or Hood coming in. Probably not GJ or Orton either.
As well as Pilgrim.
We would really have Shultz, Verdall Jones, Sampson the III, and no
telling what other scrubs. We would have probably beaten VMI, maybe Miami,
and still gotten blown out by VMI. Considering how well UL played yesterday
I think UL would have blown out a Tubby team considering what we would have
had - Patterson and Stevenson wouldn’t have been as good as he is now.
I took Tubby 10 years to destroy UK basketball, can’t we give Gillispie a
little more than 1 1/2 years to rebuild it.
Some of you kill me, how you seem to forget and live in the moment. You know
why IU will be very good in the future under Crean? Because UL fans will
give Crean the time to succeed.
If we do the same Gillispie will also, starting next season.
January 5th, 2009 at 4:01 pm
Every coach needs atleast 3 years to start rebuilding a program. It’s okay to criticize some things, but don’t ask for him to be fired. Tubby left the cupboard bare folks and we are just getting things stocked. If PPat came back next year UK could be hanging another banner.
January 5th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
19. I see the improvement already this year, and it will continue. I don’t see us losing any more than 3 games in the SEC. We will put up a great run, and possible win the SEC this year.
January 5th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
I agree i was wanting tubby gone as bad as anyone but would really like to see a gillispie recruit not named patterson if you actually think hes here because of gillispie which i dont but anyway…start to do something. We kill porter but he’s a tubby recruit who plays over a guy like galloway who is a junior and a gillispie recruit.Maybe im not making much sense im still pissed over the game and i do still kinda think gillispie has some master plan in place it’s just i cant see it right now…
January 5th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
And i will never know why slone got so many minutes against cupcakes and not even play in this game.If point guard is our big weakness we shouldve been giving those minutes to liggins or galloway to help prepare them instead of using them to show whoever practices plays
January 5th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
17) I agree completely and it’s pretty sad.
January 5th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
no way is micah ready. he cant even cover college receivers.
