Kentucky got word tonight that the Deuce wouldnot be getting loose in Lexington as the St. X running back chose to continue his education at Boston College. But, the Cats did land that elusive running back commitment this evening in the form of Florida back Donald Russell, a three-star prospect that ranks as Rivals’ 49th-best back in the country. According to J-Demling, Russell rushed for over 1,000 yard and pulled in 500 receiving for 15 total TDs and chose the Cats over South Florida and Rutgers. ESPN ranks him as the #55 back overall and gives him a grade of 78, tying him with Donte Rumph and Jarvis Walker as the 4th-highest rated player in UK’s 2009 class behind Morgan Newton (81) and Ryan Mossakowski and Myron Walker (both 79).

Nice. Can never have too many running backs, we prove that every year.

Breisner– this is old news. We have all been talking about it in the other posts. That is, ever since “GoCatsLonelyolWife” posted it, we have been discussing it.

good point, but everybody else…….. i know there are exceptions and great point.
it just amazes me how these guys think the grass is greener somewhere else. play at kentucky put up great numbers and be a team
player and you are loved the rest of your life. get a great job in town and live happily ever after, instead of going to BC.

1) Finch probably wouldn’t have came to UK anyways, if so I don’t
think he would have waited so long
2) We didn’t lose Finch, his scholorship was pulled when Russell
committed last week. When the papers talk to the UK staff and/or
Russell in the next few days you all will find this to be true.
We already had limited scholorships left and with guys returning
for another season, we have even less. There are still holes the
staff wants to fill. We were only going to take 1 more RB and Russell
was the first time committ and probably the better RB anways. Finch
doesn’t have SEC speed and he isn’t very big. You have to have one
or the other and be really good at that one thing you have, to play
in the SEC.
Right now we need to hold on to Ridge Wilson, get another Dlineman,
and a couple of DB.
I don’t care what anyone says, the highest ranked recruites in the 09 class
and most important were Micah, Lindley, Jarmon, Paul Warford, and Johnson.

#9 Finch wouldn’t have played awhole lot next year because of Smith if
he did come.
Plus it wouldn’t be hard for UK to recruit over Finch in the future.
January 23rd, 2009 at 12:31 am
That’s weird, I thought I remembered hearing about not getting a RB… oh well, must have been a mix up.
January 23rd, 2009 at 12:32 am
Unrelated, but our BB team is up to 54th in the RPI atm.

Finch is no big loss. He’s not good enough to be a major factor in the SEC. Those St X and Trinity players that are so good in jigh school frequently don’t live up to expectations in college.

I think that it’s even more ridiculous that Ridge Wilson is considering Indiana. Indiana? Football? I wouldn’t go to Indiana for anything right now.
January 23rd, 2009 at 9:57 am
I’d still like one more WR…
January 23rd, 2009 at 10:09 am
I love that everytime a potential recruit doesn’t pick us, someone always says that it’s b/c we pulled his offer. Classic.
January 23rd, 2009 at 10:23 am
EXCELLENT!!
I hated to hear we lost Deuce, and I really did not think we would pull of getting this young man out of Florida, but we did.
Donald Russell fills a critical need for UK, and is fully as good as the one we lost, in fact, he may well be a more complete back, having better receiving skills, plus is probably more durable. Lets face facts, St X does have a system that can make a yong man look better in High School, and it not carry through to college.
We as UK fans should be thrilled that Donald Russel will be wearing UK blue!
This should also be a great situation for him!!

#16 Thanks again! Will Wolford

#23, #24 - And don’t forget the Titans kicker. But really that’s about it. And Brohm hasn’t proven anything yet - and may not.

Bill Parcells actually WAS committed to coming to coach UK FB when Guy Morriss left…. but Mitch pulled the offer.
