[Moderated by Matt Jones]

Update:If you guys see any really ridiculous rumors flying around, please send them to my email address. Anything you read on a private/subscription forum should be captured as a screen shot. I’ll take the best rumors you find and post them later next week. Thanks!
Right now you be very hesitant about listening to anything presented as inside information. There’s going to be roughly 1% of all reports you’ll read the next several weeks that will be accurate — by either actually being in the know or by pure speculation. The 99% of other reports are going to be dumb stuff that just gains traction by forum trolls or out-of-state columnists wanting to tick off Kentucky fans for page views.
In the interest of sanity, remember these few pointers:
* Concering Rick Barnes rumors: Rick Barnes has taken himself out of consideration for the University of Kentucky job, as he will announce tonight despite actually being asked about the job.
* Real discussions with high-level UK Athletics people concerning Billy Gillispie or this team will never be held in an area where somebody making less than $150,000/yr can hear it. They will also not be held anywhere outside of Lexington.
* Unless you can come up with a reasonable plan for boosters to raise $5 Million or more, it is unlikely that your plan to oust Billy will work.
* Anything that is forwarded to you via email from your family or coworkers is almost certainly wrong. Also, if you get an email from your family or coworkers that has an attachment, DON’T CLICK ON THE ATTACHMENT!!!
* Replacing our current coach with Steve Masiello would bring the End of Times. I’m pretty sure he’s mentioned by name in Revelations.
* The same rules apply for Billy Behaving Badly rumors as last year: If there are no videos or pictures of bad behavior, then there is no substantial proof that Billy was behaving badly. Too many people have cell phones with video cameras. (Internet Terminology: “pixz/vidz or it didn’t happen.”)
* If Matt Jones promises you a t-shirt, you will not receive it. Sorry.
* Beware of crazy additions to Billy’s Memorandum of Understanding that suddenly start being leaked. I’ve already seen two references that Billy’s MoU requires UK to provide Billy with 1 vestal virgin a month for blood sacrifice to Ba’al. If that truly was the case, why haven’t there been missing student reports issued for members of the UK Fellowship of Christian Athletes?
* The success of non-major sports at UK does not detriment from the support given to men’s basketball. The University of Southern California and the University of Florida prove otherwise. Any attack on Mitch that involves Mitch letting basketball slide to benefit other sports is complete horse-hockey.
* Any frustrations made publicly by players (or players’ parents) should not be taken as gospel. More than likely they are just lashing out just like the rest of us fans.
* If you read a news report from some online media outlet (AOLSports, Deadspin, Yahoo! Sports, FoxSports, CBSSportsline, etc.) and they do NOT spell Billy’s last name correctly, that report is complete fabrication.
* When online media outlet (AOLSports, Deadspin, etc.) links to a rumormongering forum post(s), it does not actually validate the post(s)!
* Seth Davis is the Sith Apprentice to John Feinstein. Their tongues will be spilling words twisted with the Dark Side of the Force.
Stay safe and sane, Wildcat Nation.

March 13th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
I agree with all your statements
being nothing more than rumor
except the one about Masiello.
Mitch has a huge man crush on
Steve and will hire him in
the next few weeks.

90% BCG will return.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:53 pm
Rick Barnes was asked about the Kentucky job?… That isn’t even available yet?
March 13th, 2009 at 5:54 pm
* The success of non-major sports at UK does not detriment from the support given to men’s basketball. The University of Southern California and the University of Florida prove otherwise. Awesome! Great point.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:54 pm
#6 — I hope you know I made that Masiello comment just for you.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:54 pm
Seriously, I knew the game was over when Patterson kept missing layups and Jodie never got involved. By the way, I didn’t think they could win prior to the game and was just hoping for a good, competitive game. Oh well. There’s always next year.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:55 pm
Has anyone heard anything about Glenn Cyprien being offered the Alabama job?
I just made that up but that could actually start some good rumors.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
If UNC wins out and UK loses the 1st NIT game, then UNC will tie UK with # of wins.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:57 pm
That was f#@king awesome
March 13th, 2009 at 5:57 pm
70% Billy returns
30% He lasts more than 4 years
March 13th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
Scott Rigot has the ‘Bama job…….
March 13th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
I also heard Georgia was looking at Billy Hicks to be their next coach due to Hicks’ great ability to recruit.

Who is the greatest BB coach i the world? That is who we need.
Wooden
March 13th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
16. arrrgh, you beat me to it! just spent the last 30 minutes calculating the win totals if said future unfolds — was hoping to be the first to post it
each team will have 1986 wins, currently its UK 1986 & UNC 1978
March 13th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
21: Coach K’s resume speaks for itself and so does Pitino and Calipari etc. Go to their wikiepedia pages. Their career records are insane. Coach K has been coaching about 30 years and I think he’s only lost 10 or more games in a season on two or three occasions!!! That’s crazy good but I still despise him and his program.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
In all seriousness Cyprien will eventually get a head coaching job, he was the top choice at New Mexico State when Theus left but he had already came to Kentucky and turned it down.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
22) Sorry, I repeated Larry Glovers jibberish on the radio lol..
So UK really needs to Win some games in the NIT to keep the lead.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
20. Bill Hicks died 15 years ago, how is he still able to recruit?
March 13th, 2009 at 6:04 pm
I lied. Coach K has been at Puke University since 1980 and he’s lost 10 or more games only (6) times. That’s a great coach IMO. Bill Gillispie has been at UK for two years and has lost 13 games both years!! I just don’t see him at UK much longer.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:04 pm
26: I’m talking about Scott County High School’s coach Billy Hicks.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:04 pm
I’ve heard that Bill Hicks is a heavy smoker… he goes through 2 lighters a day.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
Alan Cutler just reported: in the stands he heard one of the players father shout fire Billy Gillispie. Alan told him he heard what he said and the father replied, “I don’t care FIRE BILLY GILLISPIE”.
Does anyone know which father?
What is going on with the Wildcats?
March 13th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
Oh about Rick Barnes, my dad has always said that he would puke if he was hired as our coach…I’m not a fan of Barnes either.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
29 - good one
How about Phil Jackson?
March 13th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Maybe I should be a little more patient with Gillispie. Afterall he is rebuilding a nightmare that Tubby left him. Here is Coach K’s records for his first few years at Duke. It was rough for him in the beginning just like Billy G, but then things changed big time for the Gay Blue Devils:
Coach K’s First Few Years at PUKE.
1980-1981: 17-13 Lost in the NIT quarterfinals.
1981-1982: 10-17 No Post Season.
1982-1983: 11-17 No Post Season.
1983-1984: 24-10 Lost in NCAA 2nd Round.
1984-1985: 23-8 Lost in NCAA 2nd Round.
1985-1986: 37-3 NCAA Runner Up.
1986-1987: NCAA Sweet Sixteen
1987-1988: NCAA Final Four
1988-1989: NCAA Final Four
1989-1990: NCAA Runner-Up
1990-1991: NCAA Champions
1991-1992: NCAA Champions
1992-1993: NCAA 2nd Round
March 13th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
Another clue that the end times are near…UK cant wait for basketball to be over so football can start. Maybe Billy Donovan is ready to come up and save us now.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
What channel will have the NIT selection show Sunday? Time for a selection show party!!!!
March 13th, 2009 at 6:12 pm

March 13th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
UK will tear it up i the NIT! Billy said we’ve practiced way better than we’ve played all year. Now we get to play where we practice.
I heard today that Micky DeMoss was fired (in a round about way) for being gay. Not sure if it’s true, but if so, Brainfart & Todd should be fired yesterday.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
38.
Gillispie has made UK the laughing stock of college basketball.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
38: LMAO, those NIT sayings are rather creative and humorous. But for some reason, I’m seriously thinking and hoping UK will return to Prominence under Billy Clyde. I’ve had a change of heart and I’m not going to dog him anymore. Look at my post in post #33. Coach K had a horrible first few years at Duke and now look at him. His career record at Duke is now: 755-214!!!! It takes time to rebuild an entire team and Tubby only left Gillispie one good player, Meeks.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
If Patterson defends Coach, I cannot understand why we can’t all drop it and unify under the current regime. We sound like dicks. Now you’re not only saying you know better than BCG how to coach and Barnhardt how to run what is basically a large company, but you know better than Patterson how he himself and the players feel.
If that’s the case, could you please come over and turn my faucet into a Pinot Noir spigot? Idiots. Go Cats.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
Maybe Mark Cuban will buy UK and hire a great coach for us.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
39: LMAO!!!! That’s great.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:19 pm
There is one poster that has a pic of KYJelly and it says “Kentucky Slides into the NIT”
March 13th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
And the Ashley Judd poster is hilarious.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
I want him to return and coach next year…alot of his guys are comin in so we’ll see if it is any better.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
I can never figure out why Mark Few from Gonzaga isn’t mentioned as a potential candidate for the job. He’s proven. Keeps a mid-major in the top 15 most always, and usually higher. He has a track record of almost 10 years or more. He made a program and he puts NBA talent out with lesser talent. Could you imagine if he had the resources and facilities Kentucky has? Top 5 every year in my opinion. The problem with the last two people we’ve hired is that the don’t have a track record past a couple of years of proving they can get the job done.
I think Billy G should go. Carolina hired and fired until they got their man. And we shouldn’t stop until we find someone to produce results. The facts are next year more than likely he’ll have a much better team, but we’re Kentucky. We don’t want sweet-sixteens. We want final fours and championships because that’s who we are.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:21 pm
42 - If you can’t figure out how to open a bottle of wine, then you should just kill yourself.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
It doesn’t matter that PPat defended Billy because most players like their coaches regardless of whether or not they are worth a nickel or not. Results, results, results that’s what it’s all about and Billy G does not have the coaching capacity to produce em.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
this just in, Syracuse- Uconn just ended
March 13th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
What I’m watching it on ESPNU??? I thought it was live?
March 13th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
This just in - UK fans bothered.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:27 pm
48 He’s in a conference that’s about as tough as tissue paper. Plus he’s never been anywhere other than Gonzaga. I’d rather have Anthony Grant if we’re gonna hire someone out of a piss poor conference
March 13th, 2009 at 6:27 pm
NEWSFLASH:::Matt Jones did not remove his hair for the national anthem prior to today’s UK - LSU game.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
#42, I love Pat and think he is a sincere, forthright kind of dude, but I ain’t sure if that speech didn’t have a little “smoke and Mirrors” behind it. He also said in his first interview that he would be back for his Jr. Year, then by days end, it went to “I’d like to come back, and wll probably come back, but I’ll re-evaluated with my family at the end of the year”. He’s a team player and he’s not going to say anything contraversl about the program. Believe you me, the waters are choppy in Lex right now.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
What would you all rather see, UK win the NIT Tournament this year or Ashley Judd’s camel toe?
March 13th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
Okay, next questions - what is our record next year if BCG stays? If he goes?
March 13th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
50. I hear ya, but like I say…continuity. Don’t judge him based on these first two seasons. This isn’t Iraq. We are allowed a mistake or two. He’s definitely not couth, a great speaker, charismatic, etc. However, I think he needs at least two more years. If Patrick and Jodie stay and this ship isn’t turned around in 2 years, then I’ll hop right on the bandwagon to send him out on a rail. Until then, I defend him. Go Cats.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:30 pm
58: If Coach Gillispie leaves then Orton and Vilarino will not be here and Meeks and Patterson won’t either.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
those nit saying on the a&m thread are funny as hell, even if it stings a bunch
March 13th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
I think we’re 20-10 if Gillispie stays, 19-11 if he goes.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
He coaches in a piss poor conference, but he schedules one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation every year! He wins against the big boys like Carolina, Duke, UCLA. More can be said about his overall schedule than KY’s for the past 5 years that’s for-sure we schedule a bunch of nobodies in non-conference.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
38, Purnell, That’s hillarious. Sad, but hillarious.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:33 pm
57 - Finally a relevant question. I, along with Rick Majerus go with Camel Toe.
check
March 13th, 2009 at 6:33 pm
56. I understand the frustration and when I say “idiots” I include myself for caring so much. I just can’t imagine what good could come from getting rid of him. We are on teetering on the precipice right now, with Pat and Jodie’s status, and with BCG. We could lean back and find terra firma to build on or we could begin a spiral downward and find ourselves in IU’s position…that makes me cringe.
I’m heading out for drinks to dull the pain. Agree or disagree, remember our blood (and tears tonight probably) are the same shade of blue! Go Cats.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:37 pm
Louisville has a better basketball program than Kentucky. Think about that for a minute and then get back to me.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
Anyone have a time machine to 96-98?
March 13th, 2009 at 6:38 pm

Let’s hate on some cards and poo devils.
If nothing else we are free to watch and bad mouth
our arch nemesis to the west who are going to get
a number one seed and (write this down) will play
in the title game.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
57 I’ll take Ashley. If we did win the NIT, do you think we would hang the banner???? USC hangs them just for participating in the NIT.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
67 I’d argue against that, we have more recent championship victories and they went to the NIT a couple of years ago. They had a better season than us but that can happen
March 13th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
38 - funny shit on that board.
Now
I miss
Tubby
March 13th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
67
Sad, but true, amigo.
They have been to a FF since we have.
They are consistently a top 20 program.
And they have a real shot at winning it this year.
The last point would most likely result in me
jumping off a 50 story building right after I ingest
a whole bottle of valium chased with drano then
cut my arms from wrist to elbow-vertically.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
71.
Can you really tell me with a straight face that Louisville doesn’t have a better coaching staff, roster, recruiting, and foreseeable-future success than UK?
March 13th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
67. Better year, not better program. Remember 7 championships most all-time wins.
66. PPat and Meeks aren’t going pro just b/c we get a new coach b/c it’s all about the $. If they think they’ll get drafted high then their gone. If not their staying. Bottomline. I would actually think that most of the players on the team would be excited about change. They may never say it, but they know in their hearts.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
Those Texas AM posts are funny. They knew what we were getting in a coach.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
Lets all be Friends in these tough times.
Friendship is like Butt Cheeks, Crap may get between them, butt they always come back together.

March 13th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
72 yes hilarious we are the laughing stock of the college bball world couldn’t find anything more funny.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:43 pm
I just patented that cricket shirt so don’t get any ideas.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:43 pm

March 13th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
I wonder if UK can kick out the sweet 16 and get back Rupp? That way losing in Memorial won’t upset the ghost of Rupp.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:48 pm
84- I think I still have pics of her
March 13th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
Will they sale Ice Cream at Memorial for the NIT????
March 13th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
I say 40% chance BCG comes back.
Without any insider knowledge, I predict feelers are being sent out to the big names: Donovan, Caliapari, Dixon etc. If there is a positive feel, UK will come up with a zero-tolerance policy for BCG which he will reject and leave.
If the big names are not interested, BCG will get a talk but not much will change - and he’ll be back.
Fans like us mean nothing - it’s all what the boosters want.. Barnhart and Todd have to dance to their tune.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
That rumor about the FCA may say more about the group then anything else.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:53 pm
74 A lot of my answer would depend on what happens this off season, but they missed the tournament a couple years ago (they played in the NIT) and they haven’t won any championships this team (people don’t realize it) was actually close this year to being very good. We lost some very winnable games (Georgian & VMI) and had key players injured in key games (Razor for Miami, PPat at Vandy) with those four games in our pocket we’re a lock. Some blame these losses on coaching and I’ll admit that has been weird but I tend to think that it was an overall lack of experience with the players. If JM and PPat come back next year with the class we have coming in we have a chance to have a really good season. If UofL went to the NIT two years ago and is having a really good season, why should I assume that we can’t do the same?
March 13th, 2009 at 6:54 pm
86 - I’d love to see them
March 13th, 2009 at 6:57 pm
This whole missing the NCAA Tourny is all in Clydes Grand Sceem of things, don’t you see. By not having to spent the next 3 weeks playing games, he and his staff will get a jump on recruiting for the future, and bring in all those stars 2 and 3 years down the road. Trouble is, he may not be here to enjoy it.
March 13th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
1 name and 1 name only Calipari! Mitch needs to take a trip to Memphis and not come back without John! He can handle all aspects of the job unlike BillyG!
March 13th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
93 Dream on. Have you seen that class he’s got coming in?
March 13th, 2009 at 7:07 pm
Jodie apparently coming back. No word on whether or not he qualified the statement life Patrick did.
http://www.kentuckysportsnetwork.com/forum/topics/jodie-meeks-says-he- will-be
March 13th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
91- I married that girl then divorced her. Ill post our home videos on this site.
March 13th, 2009 at 7:13 pm
Calipari is a great recruiter and not a bad X n O coach,
but I am concerned with the type of players he recruits.
Not to mention his practices. I have always had an uneasy feeling about him.
If he came here I would support him 110%, but we would be under a microscope
to the powers that be.
March 13th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
Would we really care what type of players Calipari recruits if he is winning and rebuilding our program?
March 13th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
I think we need to get off Billy G’s back. Tubby left him with virtually nothing, and they were Tubby-type players recruited for Tubby’s system. Let’s face it, Ramel Bradley and Joe Crawford were vastly improved players under Billy G. Crawford, especially, was lazy and erratic until Billy G cracked the whip.
You will never have a great team with 2 above average players (Meeks & PP) and 3 Division II players. Patterson was literally being triple-teamed the entire game and we didn’t have a single guy that could step up and hit jumpshots. Look at Tubby’s scrubs. Perry Stevenson is worthless. He had two flippin’ rebounds today–and that’s with PP being tripled, i.e., Stevenson’s man went over to help out on Patterson. And Stevenson can’t get a damn offensive rebound to save his life. How can a guy be a “power forward”, be 6′9”, and not get a damn offensive rebound? Ramon Harris would not leave the bench if he played for UNC, Duke, Memphis, Louisville, Bellarmine…. Ramon’s guy was doubling on Patterson–why can’t he get a damn offensive rebound? Porter is barely a D-2 player who adds nothing. These are Tubby’s guys.
I am optimistic about next year. We will have a point guard; I don’t think Billy G. will sleep until he lands a point guard that can shoot (and dribble). I think Harrelson, with a year under his belt, will beat out Stevenson, or Orton will fill the middle, or maybe they’ll take one of Rich Brooks’ linebackers who can bang and rebound.
Next year will be the year to judge the coach….
March 14th, 2009 at 3:02 am
99) Brilliant. I agree 100%.
Too bad more of our retarded fans can’t think like you and I do.
And for the folks crying about how Louisville has a better basketball program than us… I’m sure they would be glad for you to cheer for them. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Just don’t come back knockin’ when Rupp is rockin’… and it WILL.
March 14th, 2009 at 6:38 am
[...] Kentucky Sports Radio is on rumor patrol. [...]
March 14th, 2009 at 7:50 am
99) Great comments!!!! I definitely agree with you 150% Next year will be the year to judge Gillispie. The big question in my mind is, ‘Will he continue to start Porter, Stevenson, and Harris next year?’ I’ve definitely been curious as to why he brought in players like Galloway and Harrelson, and then not play them much. I understand the freshman need time to learn the college game, but i definitely think next year will be the year to judge our ‘new’ coach.
Great Post Fake Gimel…very entertaining
March 14th, 2009 at 10:32 am
Getting rid of Billy at this
time would set the program
back worse than it is now, but
judging from his personality
he might tell the BBN to shove
it and quit on his own.
