Gillispie Note

by @ 5:56 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Getting mixed signals now on the Gillispie meeting yesterday….one source I trust said he was there and one said he wasnt and it was just Lee and Mitch. Both sources however say that the results of that meeting will be known soon.

On Kentucky Sports Report Larry Vaught reports that a “high level meeting” took place yesterday. That is similar to what I have heard as well, but because of the varied reports I am hearing, I will leave it with what Larry said.

So in summary, who the hell knows? But I do know that many mainstream media folks are (unlike me who is falling asleep to these NCAA games) scrambling around tonight trying to find something out.

  1. bfrey Says:

    Gone.

  2. SuperJman Says:

    FTP

  3. SuperJman Says:

    ouch, STP? FAIL.

  4. wildcatmountaineer Says:

If there was a high level meeting without Billy, that can’t be good for his sake.

  5. Crakaveli Says:

Bottom line. We know as much as we have for the past 6 weeks… Nothing.

  6. TheBigBooyah Says:

My source says I may be having Outback tonight.

Seems like the only reason they’d be in a huge rush is if a coach they wanted just got beat out of the tournament.

  7. LeBowlingAlley Says:

I’m assuming we won’t know anything until after our season is over?

  8. hymiet Says:

I think all is fine. BCG will get his shit together and return next year with a new attitude and some new talent. If he’s out its becuase he is not interested in sticking around. As the saying goes, “Attitude Is Everything.” I think that is what I am most uncertain about, whats up his ass and why?

  9. catdawg Says:

This is off the BCG stay or go topic. However, which of these would you think is best overall for the program?

1.) Go to the NIT, play deep into the tournament and possibly win.

    or

2.) Go to the NCAA and get blown out like lets say UCLA did today.

We all know that if UK had made the NCAA tourney a similiar result could have been waiting for them.

So the you decide go out with a blow out loss or possibly by winning the NIT tourney with something to build on. I’m still up in the air.

  10. 4453bigcat Says:

    I don’t have a source!

  11. 4453bigcat Says:

    Good question, 9.

  12. Matt Jones Says:

There is no positive to the NIT over the NCAA…and if the Cats were in the NCAA and lost in the first round and the Cards won the NIT, we would all make fun of them.

The NIT is a great tournament to play in if you have no other options….the NCAA is always a better option

  13. LeBowlingAlley Says:

I have to admit, it will be fun to still be able to watch Kentucky after the first 2 rounds of the NCAA tournament is over.

  14. 10, 2, and 4 Says:

I thought it was made very clear that THE meeting would be between Barnhart and Coach after the season….TODD: “We are not going to do any kind of evaluation of the basketball program until the season is over. I’ll leave that up to Mitch to do the evaluation, sitting down with the coach, and then they’ll come to me and we’ll talk about anything they want to talk about.”

THE meeting is not coming until after the season. Look at the situation from Mitch’s perspective. Being in the position of power, he would lose some control by changing the routine of an evaluation after the season. It would look like his hand was being forced. By sticking to the schedule, he keeps things steadily on track to being resolved.

Changing his plan by announcing that Coach will return before then would be like the dreaded vote of confidence. VOCs bind an AD to the coach if a future change is necessary. Conversely, one given to a coach who’s staying can undermine him because fans see this support as a handout instead of it being earned causing the VOC to backfire. Mitch is not going to do anything hurried. So, we wait and anticipate the outcome of THE meeting.

  15. UK-Basketball-Freak Says:

Matt: If BCG is out, would we offer Donovan again? If yes, would he accept this time around?

  16. catdawg Says:

    MJ

I’m not sure that is true to all the high school ballers. They remember what you’ve done lately. If they see you have pulled it together and barnstormed your way through the NIT to win it all or saw you get ran out of the gym in the NCAA it could make a difference. To them they could see this last few games as a trend for the program. One that’s on its way up compared to one that might be going down. As in UCLA’s case Final Four to being blown out in the 2nd round. I know they lost a ton of talent, but kids don’t always look at it that way.

  17. WildcatsOne Says:

I heard that Mitch and Lee were out looking at horse farms with Calipari, Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, Billy Donovan and Bill Self. Word is, they were going to eat at Outback Steakhouse with The BigBooyah to get his evaluation tonight. Whoever gets the last piece of Bloomin Onion will get the nod as BCG’s replacement.

  18. 10, 2, and 4 Says:

15, I’ll ask you….If putting a team of mostly players you didn’t recruit into the NIT gets you fired, how can putting a team which is entirely yours(Donovan) into the NIT the last TWO years afford you this promotion? Apparently the question is kryptonite to those conjuring up The Widow’s Peak Waffler.

  19. sf10275 Says:

Of course we would rather be in the NCAA, but at this point we need wins, and we wouldn’t have won any in that tournament. UNC may well pass us in all time wins next year, but we have to reach 2000 first. Its just too big a mile stone.

  20. Steady Says:

    18. Billy Donovan disgusts me, that’s a fact.

  21. UK-Basketball-Freak Says:

I still cant believe we are playing in the NIT and talking about a possible coaching change again…..

  22. 4453bigcat Says:

If in fact BCG is removed from office I don’t know who I’d consider the number 1 prospect to take over the job!

  23. Crakaveli Says:

I still think winning the NIT(if we could manage to actually do that) would be better than losing a first round game of the NCAA.

  24. UK-Basketball-Freak Says:

    20. Not sure how I feel about Billy D. at this moment. I’m pretty pissed he dissed us, but he was coming off back to back titles and the Orlando job was on the table.

  25. C-Mills21 Says:

22- John Calipari, Billy Donovan, or Tom Izzo. If UK is sure that they can’t reel in one of them then we’re basically stuck with Travis Ford

  26. Crakaveli Says:

    25. Tom Izzo? Really? I thought at Kentucky we didn’t like low scoring, slow down, defensive basketball.

  27. UK-Basketball-Freak Says:

I think it would be a hell of a statement to win the NIT. I would think that the team that wins the NIT would go at least 1 or 2 games deep in the NCAA Tourney.

  28. Crakaveli Says:

Also, at this point, I don’t know if Travis Ford would really be that bad. I still think Gillispie should stay.

  29. C-Mills21 Says:

26- Ha, I never said I didn’t like that. Tom Izzo is one of the top 5 coaches in America at the moment and he would win big time at UK.

  30. Matt Jones Says:

#23 honestly thats absurd. The NCAA is what recruits, parents, commentators, fans, etc all care about. The NIT is better than nothing, but winning the NIT gets you nothing but envy at being in the NCAA.

No matter what UK does, it has no way of saying to Tennessee or Mississippi State that its season was better than theirs…..that should essentially settle the debate

  31. TheBigBooyah Says:

    17. If that’s the case, then Bill Parcells will be our next basketball coach. Mark it down.

  32. 10, 2, and 4 Says:

Winning the NIT is good enough to get us to 2000 before Carolina. That’s a pretty good reason.

  33. UK-Basketball-Freak Says:

    25. I say keep it in the family, offer Donavan. I read a post Matt made on one of the blogs during the SEC tourney and he seems to think Donovan would thrive at KY. But to be honest I want things to work out as they stand. I like BCG and I think he has the ability to WIN BIG at UK. But who the hell knows this job might not be the right fit for him and there is nothing wrong with that as long we part ways on good terms, although that very rarely happens.

  34. Crakaveli Says:

    30. Ok Matt. When did you become Marc Maggard?

  35. catdawg Says:

    34. LOL

  36. UK-Basketball-Freak Says:

Matt: If BCG is out, would we offer Donovan again? If yes, would he accept this time around?

  37. MeeksIsTheMan Says:

I’d love to have Calipari. Do you think he’d leave Memphis? I’m not totally sold that he would. But if he did, we could be back in the John Wall sweepstakes…….a man can dream, can’t he?

  38. lexslamman Says:

    14.

The season is over - and either way, it would seem like the meeting with Gillispie will be a formality and a decision was already made. That a high-level meeting concerning the basketball program has occurred without the presence of the head coach speaks volumes about the direction the university is taking.

  39. TheBigBooyah Says:

    30. There’s no debate to it. Those teams had better seasons hands down. But for a crappy team to possibly play 3-5 more games can’t hurt anything. If experience is what we’re lacking, then 2-5 more games should help, regardless of the competition.

I hate the NIT as much as the next person, but if by some miracle it gives 1-3 players confidence going into next year, screw it.

  40. LeBowlingAlley Says:

I bet the meeting was to organize a statement release to get everybody to shut the f*ck up about a coaching change.

  41. catdawg Says:

And when you win the NIT many view it as you should have been in the NCAA and just missed out. However, when you get blown out in one of the first two rounds of the NCAA those same people feel as that team should have been in the NIT.

  42. Crakaveli Says:

    39. You didn’t read it well. King Matt said that was the end of the debate. Even though I totally agree with you.

  43. E Cat Says:

Yes, I want to be the first to 2,000 badly. So let’s keep winning.

If BCG is out, he must have really done something pretty harsh internally (treatment of players, relationship with AD).

  44. 10, 2, and 4 Says:

    38. No, it’s not. March 23, 7 PM - ESPN check it out.

  45. Kuen Says:

A plane just took off from Gainesville, and it’s heading NORTH! http://www.gra-gnv.com/flight_information/tract_a_flight.php It must be Donovan!

  46. C-Mills21 Says:

33- Yeah I think Gillispie could win big at UK, but he has to change his off-court persona. If he can embrace the program(i.e. Rupp’s Brown suit gesture) then he will be successful because he has the resources to win championships. However, if he gets fired then it would be a mistake to hire Ford. He’s just too unproven. Since UK is a top 5 program, they MUST go after prestigous coaches before even considering Ford or Pelphrey.

  47. SuperJman Says:

I don’t think UK should have even participated in the NIT. We have certain standards and one of them ISN’T the NIT. That being said, Donovan has been to three (3) NCAA title games this decade. Sounds good to me. BCG Sweet 16 once.

  48. catdawg Says:

    39. Exactly the point I wanted made. The question was about which of the options would be best overall for the program. And I think you just stated it, more games, more experience and to end on a positive note for those coming in, your fans and the current players would be the best. You just push me over to picking number 1. I was leaning that way and your point was the final straw.

  49. 4453bigcat Says:

I think Calipari is happy where he’s at. NO pressure he can win 30+ games a year, win his conference every year and make a deep run in the NCAA every year. Why would he want to leave?

Anyone know what Calipari makes at Memphis?

  50. UK-Basketball-Freak Says:

lexslamman: Meetings like Matt described happen all the time in large corporations, which UK is. Taking it as anything other than that is specutlation.

  51. Houston_Matt Says:

23…Ask South Carolina how much their back-to-back NIT championships in 06 and 07 helped their remember correctly they were back in the NIT this year.

  52. DaMooseIsLoose Says:

40 haha. that was great, dude.

  53. 10, 2, and 4 Says:

LSU 42 NC 41 approaching half.

  54. big blue gonad Says:

Forget the obvious choices, why wouldn’t we bring in Pat Riley???? He’s a little older than most, doesn’t really need to work, but would be a good non-college coach pick. What would recruits think when he sits down in your living room and eats your momma’s cookies?

  55. catdawg Says:

    47. UK does have tradition but doing something like that is exactly what gives UK fans the black eye.

  56. UKhoopshysteria Says:

10, 2, and 4… Do you think BCG is the better coach than Donovan?

  57. big blue gonad Says:

    – forgot to add… IF there is a coaching change — which I doubt.

  58. Mojo Wilkins Says:

I have it on good authority that Billy Gillispie either will or will not be the coach at UK next season. But I have not been able to confirm this.

  59. Crakaveli Says:

    54. He’s 63. Most 63 year-olds with multiple NBA championships don’t sit in living rooms of 16-17 year olds.

  60. catdawg Says:

    51. I thought about that but when I posted the question I was looking at it from the perspective of a UK, UNC, Kansas, Duke or UCLA type program.
However, that was a great point.

  61. LeBowlingAlley Says:

    54) I think Pat Riley is a little tied up being the president of the Miami Heat

  62. lexslamman Says:

    44.

    Post season. Post meaning after.

  63. alafavers Says:

Jay Wright!! Jay Wright!! Jay Wright!!

  64. 10, 2, and 4 Says:

    56. Yes. The edge our Coach has over the Widow’s Peak Waffler is in his determination.

  65. big blue gonad Says:

61, Who hasn’t someone mentioned as a replacement for Gillispie that isn’t employed now?

  66. UK-Basketball-Freak Says:

    46. I just cant get comfortable with Pelphrey or Ford right now. They are just way to green. I’m not saying that are not going to be awesome coaches becuase I truely think they will, just not ready for the big time yet. We need a Pitino caliber coach at UK, just not sure who that would be other than Donovan.

  67. Goose_is_Golden Says:

For me the tears that Tyler hansbrough would shed if the Heels lost to LSU would wash away all the pain from this season.

  68. SCCat Says:

Don’t look now but LSU is making a good run. This would keep our NCAA tourney wins lead intact if they can knock off the HEELS…Geaux Tigers.

  69. TheBigBooyah Says:

    58. We have the same source. I’ve been trying to get that point across for weeks now.

  70. alafavers Says:

67… amen… would totally screw my brackets but who cares… Down with Hansbrough and the TearHeels

  71. Goose_is_Golden Says:

70 Me too, I got them winning it all but I would gladly throw it away

  72. catdawg Says:

    71. Hope you guys didn’t just jinxed LSU. LOL

  73. LeBowlingAlley Says:

    65) I think moving from a coaching job to a better coaching job is a little different from moving from a president of a company to a coaching job.

  74. alafavers Says:

anyone else have CLevland St over WF ??? :)

  75. landbetweenlake Says:

If BCG is out and I personally don’t think he is. Why screw around this time bring in Pat Riley. It would be such a smack to our rivals Louisville, Tennessee, Indiana, North Carolina etc. It would be fun to see what he could do with this bunch of players don’t think he would have Porter ant PG though :-).

  76. SCCat Says:

Crazily enough, i did have Cleveland State…unfortunately i also had VCU, BC, OSU, Clemson, MISS. STATE…my bracket is done, it is time to protect records

  77. SCCat Says:

I did have Western too though - like many of you I’m sure. Got them in the 16, hope that happens.

76…Pat Riley is long on nostalgia and short on desire to coach the CATS. I’m hoping we win Monday. F Creighton.

  78. TheBigBooyah Says:

    76. my mindset exactly.

  79. The_Source Says:

My only concern with this season is if LSU can beat UNC
maybe we can gain a couple games back in overall wins.
That would be a great start to padding the lead more
    next year.

  80. alafavers Says:

is it just me or does Hansbourgh suck ass?!?!! how did he ever win POY

  81. big blue gonad Says:

75, exactly my point. A college coach has to only do a few things to win.

    1. Recruit. Pat Riley will bring in future NBA players.
    2. Training. Can do.
    3. Game day coaching. Can do.

Name another college coach with more NBA connections AND a UK background. What more would you want in a coach?

  82. 10, 2, and 4 Says:

    74. I picked them to win again too and play looserville.

  83. boots45 Says:

    A little known commandment #11

Thou shall not covet thy neighbors coach.

  84. alafavers Says:

non-basketball question… who else things Wolverine: Xmen Origins will suck worse than Tearler Hansbourgh

  85. SCCat Says:

    81. I love some Pat Riley, but he ain’t coming through that door. He didn’t come to the Rupp’s Runts signing of Maker’s commemorative bottles.

He just doesn’t have an interest in coaching us, plain and simple.

  86. SCCat Says:

    84. yes, it will suck just as bad.

  87. LeBowlingAlley Says:

I heard Tayshaun Prince was interested in retiring from the NBA and come coach Kentucky next season.

  88. SCCat Says:

in the world of JUCO players, it would have been nice to have grabbed Marcus Thornton.

  89. alafavers Says:

I heard Michael Porter is going to graduate early and coach Kentucky next season

  90. cantfannsc Says:

Donovan has been in the NIT the past two seasons to state the obvious. Not a good choice. Billy G. deserves one more season

  91. bubbleup Says:

Crock o’ crap for LSU to have to play UNC at “home”.

  92. alafavers Says:

    91 AMEN.

  93. SCCat Says:

Jim Nantz just commented about the number of times Hansborough has been hit in the face, then they went to video…CBS only has that teed up becasue they know he is going to start crying at some point in the game and they’ll have to remind us of his “toughness”.

What a bum he’s gonna be in the pros.

  94. LeBowlingAlley Says:

Doesn’t it seem like UNC or Duke plays in Greensboro in the tournament every season?

  95. alafavers Says:

    93. Hans has taken even more balls to the face

  96. The_Source Says:

would rather have Poter over Calipari or Donavon

  97. SCCat Says:

    94. They do - the “pod” system was built for them. I kind of like that they can throw the CATS anywhere though, and we’re still the home team.

  98. alafavers Says:

    Greensboro Colosium… that’s FLAIR COUNTRY!!

  99. catdawg Says:

At least UNC had to fight for this one.

  100. bubbleup Says:

6 minutes to go in the half, 3 fouls on Carolina…yeah.

  101. alafavers Says:

    ok.. Lawson is pretty awesome

  102. SCCat Says:

Damn…SEC done for the year - I’m glad i have the memory of a goldfish.

Batcats and the Reds look good this year, and it’s only 5 months till we start tearing people up in football.

  103. Ciprian_True_Blue Says:

billy donovan or anthony grant are only guys that make sense as replacements

  104. Ciprian_True_Blue Says:

todd said he wasnt getting involved but then did and it was stated that this meeting would occur after the season. well it didnt wait that long so they must have the replacement contacted and ready to go

  105. BigCatsFan Says:

Mike Anderson of Missouri would be a good choice,he was my pick when BCG was hired.

  106. Ciprian_True_Blue Says:

true but for the meeting to have taken place it must be a coach thats already done playing this year. and those 2 are listed make the only sense

  107. SCCat Says:

it’s interesting to see a couple teams with good point guards and what a HUGE difference it makes. I really hope we can shore that up soon.

  108. Mark Says:

To anyone who says Pat Riley again, get your head out of your ass. Great choice only 200 years to late. I think he turned 64 yesterday.

  109. The_Source Says:

    riley much older than 64

  110. The_Source Says:

    closer to 80

  111. SagaciousMind Says:

Why even speculate? I don’t believe/trust anything I’ve heard from any “sources” including the hammer. The only thing I will believe is what Barhart, Lee, and Gillispie say. And I don’t understand why these types of meetings would be taking place right now when the team has a game Monday. These are distractions that the team doesn’t need. Shit needs to be put on hold right now until the season is officially over.

  112. BluesMan Says:

I think I’ll go out on a limb here and say that Kentucky doesn’t have Anthony Grant in mind as a first choice. More like option #15. Calipari and Donovan have to be at the top of the list.

  113. savethecats Says:

Top 3 to coach the cats if gcg is out.
    1. Travis Ford
    2. Steve Smith
    3. Dwane Casey

  114. BluesMan Says:

Also, at this point we still have a coach.

  115. Goose_is_Golden Says:

110 He’s 64, just looked it up on Wikipedia

  116. SCCat Says:

    111. Well put. We still have games to play

  117. Ciprian_True_Blue Says:

sorry for these caps but u people wont listen. THIS MEETING TOOK PLACE NOW BECAUSE THE DECISION HAS BEEN MADE AND HAD THEY DECIDED TO GIVE HIM A CHANCE I DONT THINK THIS MEETING HAPPENS NOW. A COACH MUST BE IN MIND ALREADY WITH A SOLID CHANCE OF RETRIEVING HIM. A COACH THAT IS ALREADY DONE PLAYING MAKES MOST SENSE. THAT BEING LIKELY DONOVAN. BUT ALSO… FORD ISNT READY BUT EVEN DESPITE THAT HE MAY BE A CHOICE TOO BECAUSE HE PASSED HIS “AUDITION”WHEN HE BEAT OKLAHOMA, TENNESSEE AND THE BRUCE, AND A FEW DAYS AGO ON DAN PATRICK SHOW HE TALKED ABOUT UK COACH IS LIKE THE MOST AMAZING AND INCREDIBLE JOB IN THE WORLD.

  118. dtuck Says:

Donovan’s team is still playing in the NIT, so he’s not done playing. Riley was in the 1966 championship game, which was 43 years ago. For him to be nearly 80, he would have had to have been 37 at that time. This isn’t Back to School.

  119. The_Source Says:

the source can not verify this info so it is just rumor

  120. The_Source Says:

Sorry I was using a blog for a source on the age. damnit not again

  121. The_Source Says:

Riley just looks 80 he really is 64

  122. UKCatFan01ABC Says:

    117. Chill out. You don’t know what type of meeting was held or if BCG was there or not. Ford’s uproven, Billy D turned us down once already, plus he’s getting too familiar with the NIT, and Calipari won’t leave Memphis so I don’t know who we would get if we were to replace BCG.

  123. The_Source Says:

probably just a normal meeting and the people in the
bushes are trying to drum up drama, or they can say
it was accurate info cause the two people may have met.
gotta keep feeding this fire to keep the radicals pumped
    up.

  124. KYERIC Says:

I just heard the BCG was getting some MAJOR recruits next season and turning a program around.

  125. Ciprian_True_Blue Says:

no good if as many as 6 will transfer or leap to nba if he returns

  126. Ciprian_True_Blue Says:

i grew up with sherbie who is a walk on.. i go out with stevenson about once every other week. i have talked to slone… they dont like him.. dont think he will return.. better yet… they hope he wont return

  127. KYERIC Says:

I heard that Billy G. and Tubby Smith were in a secret meeting discussing Mitch and Lee Todd (It was at a BW3s). The both agreed the atomic was a little too hot to be enjoyed.

  128. KYERIC Says:

Wasn’t Jay Wright wearing a brown suit today? Well, that tells me something, baby. Mark it down, write it up, tattoo it on your forehead. JAY WRIGHT IS THE NEXT KENTUCKY BASKETBALL COACH.

  129. UK-Basketball-Freak Says:

126: What does the rest of the team think about him? I would think that Meek and Patterson are under his good graces and like him more than most.

  130. 4453bigcat Says:

I saw someone in town today looking at property. but I’m not gonna tell you who it is!

  131. KYERIC Says:

Mitch and Lee were seen last night at a Laser Quest with a MYSTERY candidate. They kept calling him “Widows Peak”. I think we ALL know what that means!

  132. Ciprian_True_Blue Says:

the only time i see patterson is sometimes when im eating lunch at tally ho with slone n sherbie. he is actually pretty good about not giving anything out to anyone.. but i legitimately believe neither him nor meeks like him one bit

  133. Crakaveli Says:

    It’s really fascist around here

  134. 4453bigcat Says:

They don’t like sherbie? That’s too bad!!

  135. A-to-the-Z Says:

Wait a second - if they had the meeting before the season ended, doesn’t that mean that BCG is staying? It would be ironic if they fired BCG for being classless in such a classless way..

My opinion is that UK and BCG are not a good fit. I hope the part ways without embarrassing each other. I have no doubt that both will be successful down the road.

If UK hires another up-and-coming coach like Ford, Grant, even Wright - I think it will be a colossal mistake. I hope they go after Caliapari and Donovan, in that order.

  136. KYERIC Says:

Calapari was overheard in the locker room telling his players that he would give his left testicle to coach at Kentucky. Mitch and Lee high-fived right outside in the hallway. Let’s get ready for some basketball action!!!

  137. BluesMan Says:

I saw John Pelphrey at Main Street Live last night trying to find someone to show him how to do the stanky leg. Is that important for some reason?

  138. 4453bigcat Says:

I guess its better than being slow, #133!!

  139. DaMooseIsLoose Says:

i hope donovan never comes to lex. greasy northeastern douche. pitino was alright in my book in that he wasn’t a douche.

    138. What?

  141. Ciprian_True_Blue Says:

u know what i meant 4453 that was rtetarded. i dont believe in sources and blah blah. but when my doctor is a big booster and says stuff i listen… when my dad is friends with a few staff members i listen… when i personally know and speak with players… i think i am more informed on my beliefs than most reporters out there. coach cannot possibly come back

  142. 4453bigcat Says:

136, I think Gillispie said the same thing whenever he got here. Until he got here and found out how truely RABID, CAT fans are!!

  143. The_Source Says:

This site really needs to change the description at the
top of the page. I have been coming here for a few weeks and have yet to see a legitmate news story. Or maybe
it is saying just “recruiting news”, but I have seen none of that here either. it has all been links to other sites
of what I would hardly call news sites. They are mostly
    speculation and opinion sites.

  144. KYERIC Says:

Travis Ford told a reporter yesterday that he actually never thought the old Kentucky Wildcat logo looked like it had a “member” in it’s mouth. THIS ASSURES ME THAT FORD IS COMING HOME MY FRIENDS!!!

  145. Crakaveli Says:

    143. Don’t say anything against the site or anyone involved.

  146. BluesMan Says:

Okay 141, your lame attempt at name dropping after your ridiculous assumptions in 117 means you have no credibility. Next.

  147. 4453bigcat Says:

141 Lighten up man. JK!! People who know me never take me seriously!!

  148. Ciprian_True_Blue Says:

lol oookkkeyy dokey.. i also reported on this site well over a month before it happened that billy g was coming here 2 years ago.. look me up…i dont need idiots like you to tell me what i know. lol.

  149. 4453bigcat Says:

I’ll be the first to tell everyone that I have no connections and Never claimed to have!!

  151. Crakaveli Says:

    150. Hey tough guy, I’m just trying to help you out before the big brother of this site goes Eric the Midget on your ass. It’s nothing toward you.

  152. KYERIC Says:

    Ciprian_True_Blue

Honestly, do you think that you have more resources than what ACTUAL reporters do because of your damn proctologist?

This site is turning completely into TCP. Too many “informed” idiots with stupid opinions that have no idea what it means to be a fan. They want Kentucky to be on top every season because it is some type of birth right. Give me a break. Grow up and TRY TO SUPPORT THE TEAM WE HAVE NOW. Sure, its tough, but it will get better. I will be along for all the highs and lows, whereas people like you live in constant negativity because of the lack of perfection from young men in a Kentucky uniform. Please.

  153. BluesMan Says:

WOW! That’s pretty impressive considering that a month before Gillispie was hired Kentucky was still playing basketball, and Barnhardt had no intention of firing him. Amazing stuff. Of course, you could be lying and/or talking out of your ass. That’s probably it.

  154. 4453bigcat Says:

Are we playing another game this week!

  155. Ciprian_True_Blue Says:

i get to sit behind the bench at some games because i have friends playing on the team..season tickets since i can remember.. i travel with the team…in football also not just bball.. i go to tournaments.. i follow them coldheartedly.. the room i had at my parents house is now a uk room full of uk stuff. please dont tell me who or who i am not

  156. The_Source Says:

I didnt know there was a big brother. maybe thats where
    I need to be

  157. The_Source Says:

    do you have the link?

  158. KYERIC Says:

And who the hell is going to look up some random ass comments that some person put up 2 years ago about Billy Gillispie coming to Kentucky? WHo else knew this information? You and 15,000 other people? Congratulations…you and Momma Legion are walking prophets.

  159. BluesMan Says:

155 is very important! He has many leatherbound books.

  160. KYERIC Says:

    “i follow them coldheartedly..”

Amen, brother. I rest my case.

    Out.

  161. BluesMan Says:

    LMAO 160.

  162. dtuck Says:

    Proctologist! That’s an instant classic.

  163. JoeBHall Says:

It was probably a pre-meeting to focus on what MB & Todd are proposing for BCG. If BCG agrees to change some of his odd behavior he will remain at UK. If he is unable to be flexible he’s probably done. I realy think this is where we stand. Coach can do this job, but he has to make some changes in how he treats this position…

  164. dtuck Says:

I think Joe B nailed it. Too early to make any final decision, but they can get together their list of demands. I was convinced he was gone last week. Now, I think he might be staying. This is like a hostage situation right now. The only thing that is certain is uncertainty.

  165. BgallowayUofK Says:

My brothers son’s buddies monkey snuck into the meeting and he said Gillispie will either be the coach and UK next year or he won’t. Write it down

  166. BgallowayUofK Says:

Hell should they be discussing Barnhart? I think it’s time to look into that.

  167. byebillyhellobilly Says:

Billy Gillispie doesn’t deserve this job and everyone here knows it. No way he is capable of winning 6 straight tourney games. No way no how. It will never happen.Period.

  168. BluesMan Says:

167 just ended the discussion. Where were you 166 comments ago?

  169. DaMooseIsLoose Says:

i think mitch and bcg should meet about todd.

  170. UK-Basketball-Freak Says:

Man! I just realized how much life sucks right now. All I do is look at this freaking blog because Louisvlle, KY is so lame. Being a dad with a 6 year old and a 7 month old keeps me stuck at home, which is fine I love my kids and my wife. But if it drops below 40 degress again I might cut my ear off. The only thing to do in this shit box of a town in the winter is root for the Cats and I am having a REALL HARD TIME WITH THE NIT thing. If there is a reason for me to kick BCG in the nuts, thats the biggest one for me. Thankfully south Florida is in my future….man I miss the beach…

Sorry everyone, I had to get that out…

  171. DaMooseIsLoose Says:

    i did’t know it.

  172. byebillyhellobilly Says:

With his crazy substitutions and his breaking down of his players no way guys stick around who are talented and want to win for him. We all have said we will change before and what usually happens? we change for a month or two and we are back to our same ways. It was an awful hire and if we continue to wait we will be sorry in the long run. Cut ties with this non appreciative man.

  173. The_Source Says:

Maybe we should move the school to another city, hire a new Dean, pres, AD, and coach. That would show em.

  174. Billyclyde-superglide Says:

Memphis is a fun tearm to watch. They loose 3 players to the NBA and are still stout. Oh I long for the days.

  175. Billyclyde-superglide Says:

#164 That sounds like the makings of a “Basketball Hostage Situation” Call in S.W.A.T.

  176. byebillyhellobilly Says:

Now i get a phone call from a buddy who is friends with a rich booster guy from Nicholasville that says Jeremy Cox is coaching the NIT game and Billy will not be there.

  177. blitzmr2 Says:

170–You need to get out, man. I feel like that too from time to time, but it’s usually because I need to get out.

I say BCG gets another year–and he should. The man didn’t forget how to coach. I think we lack the general-style PG BCG’s system seems to require. Doesn’t even have to be a stud–just an extension of BCG. Porter’s the closest we have to that (which is why he plays over Liggins and Galloway), and that’s why we aren’t where we need to be, because Porter just isn’t an elite-level PG (though I’m not going to roast him like some have).

  178. blitzmr2 Says:

176–Do you really believe that? :)

  179. byebillyhellobilly Says:

Not really this guy is one crazy sob and tries to get me riled up but thats what he said. I don’t believeit no.

  180. MIDDAY Says:

I just want to say that I love each and every one of you. Let’s come together BBN. I say this as I’m watching the Pitino / Leatner commercial. We HAVE common ground. Forget the foolishness. We won’t succeed until we come together and completely back one purpose.

  181. UK-Basketball-Freak Says:

177: I here ya and I do need to get out but the economy has this family by the balls right now. At least when we lived down south we could hit the beach. Very confining here which is why we left in the first place. Not much to do. Thanks for responding.

  182. HanOfTheBluegrass Says:

    176) If that does end up happening, either Billy G is deathly ill, or he’s out.

But I’ll believe it if I see it Monday. Til then, it’s just trolls.

  183. Mark Says:

  185. Crakaveli Says:

Is it me or could Pettigrew have been that 3rd scorer needed at UK this year?

  186. ZW Says:

Ciprian_True_Blue, I thought Mitch has been in phone contact w/ Calipari since March 8? At least that’s what you posted on here during the SEC Tournament.

  187. byebillyhellobilly Says:

I don’t think this adminastration has the balls to part ways with Gillispie.

  188. Red Rooster Says:

Just Lee and Mitch discussing the direction of program and how Gillispie fits in, specifically how he can explain where the program fell short and what it must do to improve.

The job is Gillispie’s to lose. If he says the right things, get used to seeing him.

  189. mikeywayne Says:

my only source is a 20 year old hottie who happens to ‘know’ PPat. she says the whole team hates BCG.

  190. TayPrinceJr. Says:

170-im in South Florida and it sucks it always hot…i have KY in my future plans.

  191. UK2000 Says:

I want Kentucky to keep on winning, but I also can’t wait til the end of the season and this all gets sorted out. GO CATS!!!

  192. TayPrinceJr. Says:

All this is pure speculation, Matt what is happening to this site? It’s a bunch of I heard from so-and-so bla bla bla etc. You guys want a good source, Marta McMackin is a family friend. But she’s of no use nowadays since BCG got rid of her. What a shame.

  193. Crakaveli Says:

    192. Calling out Matt can result in a first amendment right taken away here or getting Eric the Midgeted. Believe me I know.

  194. catlanta91 Says:

Here’s my prediction: Gillispie will quit to take a job somewhere else. And 68% of newspaper columnists will say we fired him.

  195. TayPrinceJr. Says:

Well at least I stated my source as a legit person lol.

  196. Crakaveli Says:

    194. 100% of the media will say he was fired and UK fans ran him off.

  197. TayPrinceJr. Says:

What I am really sick of more than anything is the national media making headlines oveer this. They just love to make a story out of UK whenever something w/negative results happens. Meeks going for 54 was a once-in-a-lifetime positive news piece on UK.

  198. UK2000 Says:

Does anyone think UK would ever look at Steve Smith from Oak Hill as an assistant, or do you think he would be a good choice?

  199. jllouisville Says:

192–You know what? I think moving Marta caused a lot of problems. She had years of useful information for Gillipie.

  200. jughead07 Says:

3,000,000 million dollar buyout was offered to coach.

  201. UK2000 Says:

200 - how do you know?

  202. UK2000 Says:

    Western goes down

  203. jllouisville Says:

Gillispie. I’m so tired of this I can’t even spell.

  204. byebillyhellobilly Says:

When they offered the 3 million did coach say “That’s a bad offer?

  205. Crakaveli Says:

    198. Steve Smith reportedly turned down Louisville before Pitino took the job.

  206. UK2000 Says:

Well yeah, but that was louisville

  207. UK2000 Says:

actually, I didn’t know that. maybe he just likes the high school level

  208. Iceman Says:

Firing bcg will be a huge mistake. The guy has had only 2 years. What coach is going to want to come here knowing that he only has 2 years to turn us around? Did everyone forget he’s bringing inthe 15th rated recruiting class in the country? Did everyone forget he’s already got the 2nd best 2010 player already committed? Were bringing in two automatic contributors in hood and orton. Hood is definatly a mcdonalds all American snub. If you seen him play you understand that. The guy was given tubby smith left overs. Porter, Stevenson, Harris, carter, and more. Did everyone forget how well he turned the opinions about ramel smooth Bradley around? Ramel was a flop under tubby and billy comes in and makes him better. The facts are we have two all stars and a potential all star in miller. The rest of the team are benchwarmers. We bring in 1 special pg next season and we have a great team. We have orton at center and pp at pf. What happens when you can no longer triple team pp? What happens when jon hood comes to town and brings that giant heart he has with him? Our starting 4 looks like this right now. Meeks, miller, Patterson and orton. Insert pg whose not afraid and we have a formula for march. Throw in hood off the bench and Stevenson as a backup. I’d say we look pretty good. Put bcg in there and you have a good defensive minded coach. Once Crawford and Bradley bought into the system last year we were a whole nother team. Porter should have went to USC to play football.

    One more year for bcg.

  209. jughead07 Says:

BEst friends parents. Their neighbor is a booster they live in Ashland. Don’t know if he took the offer or not just know that is what was offered.

  210. byebillyhellobilly Says:

    208. The next coach will know why Gillispie and UK parted ways and it wasnt the on the court stuff it was all off the court. We can keep that team together next season if the right coach comes in.

  211. UK2000 Says:

208 - it isn’t all about wins and losses this time

  212. byebillyhellobilly Says:

Plus most of the media hate the guy just like at least 40% of the fan base. His arrogance has pissed way too many people off and this guy does not deserve to coach at UK. Todd has been hearing stories from staff and boosters about Billy’s actions and is embarassed.

  213. KentuckyWildcats Says:

I am still trying to find out more about the meeting but they are
keeping a tight lid on things right now, which makes sense. I do
feel comfortable saying that the meeting was set up to work things
out and move foward but it didn’t happen that way, things don’t look
    good.

What I do know for sure is that Orton,GJ and Ferguson will not come to UK
if Gillispie is fired. Patterson will go pro if Gillispie isn’t here. Hood
will wait until we have a new coach but he was coming to UK because Gillispie
sold him on UK after Tubby pretty much ignored Hood.

So if Gillispie is fired get ready for at least two more years of horrible
seasons, worst then the one we just had. That is just a simple fact.

UK needs to do what they feel is in the best interest of UK but if Gillispie
is fired, UK fans need to come together and give the next coach at least
4 years to start to turn things around. Get ready for a few seasons like
    IU just had.

  214. byebillyhellobilly Says:

NOPE…..if they get say Donovan or Calipari he would keep patterson and Meeks. Hood is going nowhere and orton and his gamily love it here. Miller isn’t happy with Gillispie and will stay and ferguson will stick to his verbal. It’s all good my man we will be fine.

  215. UK2000 Says:

GJ may go if BCG goes, but Hood will be a cat for sure. I think the right coach will keep Orton. Meeks and PPat are uncertain either way. I think we will be better next year with our new coach.

  216. wfc7 Says:

Hi everyone, I am new here (long-time poster on HOB though; still there). I am reading limited info from someone (not well-regarded on here) who said BCG was definitely coming back, then likely coming back that he has changed his position based on new info. He has been sort of a “semantics flip-flopper” on some of his positions in the past, but this new limited info leads me to believe BCG is gone. Does that sound right?

  217. byebillyhellobilly Says:

    Maggard ?

  218. KentuckyWildcats Says:

#214 Calipari won’t come to UK because he has a great thing going. Why
would he won’t to rebuild for a fan base that wouldn’t give him the time
frame needed to rebuild? I don’t want Donovan he just went to his 2nd straignt
    NIT.

I will bet money right now (if you will live up to your bet) that if Gillispie
is fired Orton and Ferguson are gone as well.

and the Miller stuff is BS.

  219. voiceofreason Says:

I really don’t think BIlly is going anywhere. Unless there are major off the court things that have happened we aren’t aware of.

  220. byebillyhellobilly Says:

Donovan has been to 3 finals in less than 10 years and Billy G has won what 3 games in the NCAA tourney? Plus Donovan has some class about him and Billy Gillispie does not. he’s gone. No way we keep a man like that in charge of UK. Well Miller will stay regradless and if we lose Ferguson we have an entire year two years to make up for ferguson so i think we will be ok. Orton will be a CAT. He loves it here and he loves the fans more than anything.

  221. greenwell Says:

BCG will return - guaranteed. I can’t blow in my resources but they are as high level as you can get in a university :) That’s a dig on how no one will ever blow in their resources which is understandable but don’t give us news that coach is in or out for sure unless you can back up your story.

I want BCG back next year but for fun, check this out.

COACHES THAT WE WOULD WANT THAT MIGHT COME:
    1. Calipari
    2. Wright
    3. Dixon

COACHES THAT WE WOULD WANT THAT WON’T COME:
    1. Izzo
    2. Pitino
    3. Probably 10 other top coaches

COACHES THAT WE SHOULD NOT WANT THAT WOULD COME (I’ve heard these mentioned on this site and they’re just ridiculous):
    1. Ford
    2. Pelphrey
    3. Horn

COACHES THAT WE SHOULD NOT WANT BUT WOULD NOT COME ANYWAY:
    1. Donovan
    2. Barnes
    3. Boeheim

  222. wfc7 Says:

Yes to #217. And a trusted poster on HOB is saying the buyout is in place and has been offered from a booster.

  223. ikeeveready Says:

Interesting that he was a “big baby” at the first press conference, not even 2 years ago, and everybody loved him. He went out and got Patrick Patterson and Alex Legion and everyone sang his praise for upgrading the recruiting instantly. He worked Crawford & Bradley so hard they almost quit but came back stronger than ever and everyone couldn’t believe how he had transformed 2 SENIOR guards so much in a years time. How he used Derrick Jasper (on a bum wheel who had threatened to transfer on more than one occassion under Tubby I might add) and those two SENIOR guards with no Patterson or Meeks to make a run through the SEC that only a Tornado could stop and the media gave the Co-Coach of the year.

Yet this year, with no TRUE CENTER, a much younger team (no SENIOR guards or extensive game experience outside of Patterson), relying heavily on JUCOs, FRESHMEN and a point guard who is a moderately talented coverted 2 guard, we want to crucify him for being short with the media and not respectful or understanding of the University or its “Fans”. Instead wanting to “#1 Win Games and #2 Recruit”.

For all his “violent” commentary even Jimmy Dykes got it right when he said the man in the brown suit “shouldn’t have to be teaching some of these things in March. At some point you have to put some of this back on these kids” and whether or not they understand what they are trying to do “but not all of that should be placed on the coach”.

Keep him and when the wins come just make sure you acknowledge we told you so.

Something else to ponder about recruiting:

    Derrick Caracter
    Amir Johnson
    Bryan Harvey
    Clarence Holloway
    Chad Millard
    Jonathon Huffman
    Sebastian Telfair
    Donta Smith
    Brian Johnson
    Lorenzo Wade

All misses for Pitino between 2008-2004(the year he had the #7 class by the way while we were #1 with well you know). All of those players to get Clark, Sosa, Smith, T-will & McGee. Not to mention Padgett & Palacios.

    How bout these:

    Mohammed Abukar
    Ryan Appleby
    Nyan Boateng
    David Huertas
    Jimmy Sutton
    Jon Mitchell
    Mareese Speights
    Brandon Powell

All misses by Donovan. The difference Horford, Noah, Green, Brewer in 2004 the class ranked 12th nationally. Couple that with Richard & Humphrey before and Hodge as the lone player left from 05 and that gets you a couple of titles. I’d say there is a lot of luck there.

We should thank our lucky stars for Patterson, Miller, Orton, Hood and yes even Liggins & Galloway.

Izzo? No thanks, I HATE Big Ten basketball.

Calipari? Can you say $40K to your starting center? Anyone ever heard of “Worldwide” Wes? If you thought Sutton was bad do you really think U of L pulled out of the Tyreke Evans sweepstakes because of his shooting? Seriously?

I’d say we are competitive TODAY for recruits but if we change coaches how far back do we slide?

  224. Iceman Says:

211- So you’re saying that if we were headed to the sweet sixteen next week instead of the second round of the Nit BCG would still be on the hot seat? I just have trouble seeing that to be true.

Look above guys, we’re going to loose everything if we fire him. Orton, Patterson, and Ferguson are all gone. We start back at square one and go back to the NIT next year and probably the next year. We aren’t getting callipari, Izzo, Donavon, or Pitino. The best coach we will be able to get is TRAVIS FORD! Mark it down. NOBODY WANTS TO COACH US. We ran Tubby out of town and now were about to do the same thing to a coach who has only been here for TWO YEARS. Who will come to coach us? I mean really? I don’t want to hear Donavon, Callipari, Izzo, or any other coach we have no chance at getting. IT’s NOT HAPPENING!

  225. byebillyhellobilly Says:

I truly believe we have talked to Donovan and he is coming to UK. Billy will get a buyout and once both UK and UF are out of the tourney we will have a coaching change.

Patterson stays to get his degree and almost went to play for Donovan.
Meeks stays and was recruited by Donovan.
    Miller stays.
    Orton and Hood stay.
Bledsoe may come because he likes UK and UF.

Then hopefully the new coach will clean up the AVERY,ZOLLO,EUTON mess.

  226. savethecats Says:

  230. savethecats Says:

229 The hiring of BCG has killed any chance of getting a coach
like steve smith. smith should have been offered before BCG.
He knows talent and knows how to get the most out of his kids.
He would make a heck of a recruiter, he has to turn hundreds
of kids away every year. head coach or assistant, he’s a teacher
of the game that cant be ignored.

Yes it definitely is. There is strong chat about a second “basketball only AD” that will work with one of the top 3 coaches most on here want because he will not come unless Barnhart is NOT his direct boss … anyway, I am no insider, but I am reading some info from someone who seems VERY sure; he has even requested JDrum email him that he can explain …
