Lee Todd Acknowledges Gillispie Meeting

From the Herald Leader….

UK president Lee Todd attended the game. He declined to comment on Gillispie’s job status. He did say he spoke with the coach about the future of the program late last week.

Todd also said an announcement on Gillispie’s future would not be made before Friday.

I am hearing that the final decision will be announced on Friday. We shall see….

We are working with our host provider to have a temporary solution to keep up with the hits until this whole thing ends….hopefully it will be better.

Clearly, BCG’s gone, right? So when you say “the final decision” you just mean that announcement. You don’t mean his replacement will also be announced. What say you?

  3. Catfan09

    Get rid of Billy!!!

  4. AustinW

Todd: We find it’s always better to fire people on a Friday. Studies have statistically shown that there’s less chance of an incident if you do it at the end of the week.

  5. ukforever

Why have an announcement if he’s staying. BCG gone, nice knowing ya and wish things could’ve been different. Best of luck in the future. If you do stay, you have my support 100%. Time to move on.

  6. UKCatFan01ABC

    KEEP the coach!!!!

  7. Roggensak

He needs more time to UofK back to the top!

Donovan has went to the NIT the past two years, and how long did it take him to get Florida going? more than two years!

They should listen to the players before they listen to the fans!

    Go Cats.

Oh, and Harvenburdy? on Notre Dame has the ugliest shot I have ever seen.

  8. NewUK

    KEEP BILLY G!

  9. lexslamman

Kick Gillispie’s worthless butt to the curb and hire someone who actually knows the game of basketball.

  10. Roggensak

    Like you 9)

  11. Catfan09

    Good reply #9!!!

  12. Roggensak

They need to kick you to the curb and get someone that knows how to be a real fan. Poser

  13. huffy12spd

    7. how do you know the players aren’t saying kick him to the curb?

  14. roblockrocks

I think he needs atleast two more years. Mitch hired a young coach and hopefully will give him a little time to grow. Great class coming in next year and should put the Cats were we all feel the belong. I think we see something completely different under Coach Gillispie next year.

  15. tyson

ok, now i am hearing that billy d will officially be offered and if/when he turns us down the next call is to ford and then i officially become a louisville fan.

  16. lexslamman

Gillispie’s decision-making in the Notre Dame game was terrible. UK can’t afford to have someone who is so lost on the sidelines. Change is good, and the time is ripe.

  17. lexslamman

    15.

    Well…. seeya!

  18. AustinW

    15. I see you enjoyed your free pass to MM’s site.

  19. JKW1974

If they want to get him out of here, they better be REALLY sure that they have their first option. This has the potential to set the program back on the recruiting front for a long time, if it is one of those deals where we go for days and weeks begging someone to take the job…..

  20. Roggensak

Because I have heard it from post game shows where Patterson, Meeks, and Stevenson have all said it. Maybe if you were a real fan and watched the Whole game and then listened to the post game shows you would have heard this as well.

  21. NewUK

alot of fans are thinking at the heat of the moment, take a step back and realize the guy has only had two years. ppat is the voice of the team in my opinion and if he has the support of the coach and i believe so does the majority of the team.

  22. Crakaveli

    9. I thought you already knew he was fired? Again, are you going to eat crow if he’s still the coach next year?

  23. votedmostlikelytokickurazz

Eddie Munster will be boarding a plane to Lexington very soon….and it won’t be to visit Keeneland…

  24. lexslamman

    20.

Patterson, Meeks, and Stevenson will love our new coach, too, and say the same thing about him. Don’t worry, it is for the better that we get rid of this rude, obnoxious, untalented redneck and replace him with a real coach.

  25. tyson

    18. actually i was told bozich (sp?) said or wrote it. i dont have a link though.

  26. lexslamman

    22.

I do already know. I’ve been telling you all for 5 days now.

  27. landbetweenlake

If this is true and he is gone Mitch need’s to go as well I don’t know of too many people who can make a 6 million dollar mistake and keep their jobs.

  28. Crakaveli

    26. You know if you turn out to be wrong you will NEVER hear the end of it don’t you?

  29. lexslamman

    27.

That may be in the cards. Notice how Lee Todd is the one commenting here. I would hate to see a guy like Mitch Barnhart go for making one mistake – though admittedly an expensive one.

  30. huffy12spd

    20. what player in their right mind would come out and bash their coach to the media? that is committing athletic suicide. those of us who have actually played sports understand that, so don’t give me this condescending attitude about not being a real fan.

  31. uk_we_are_a_football_school

Predictions? Who will be the next coach at UK.

  32. lobstersky

    Billy D = Noah’s and Walsh’s in Blue

Calapari = dribble drive motion offense = high school stars @ UK = Championships

  33. Sureloc

No reason to wait for a Friday announcement if BCG is staying. If he keeps his job, no announcement necessary. So there will be an announcement on Friday. If done right, the announcement will be new coach. Otherwise they have a whole presser just to fire BCG and that is a whole news cycle by itself.

  34. 10, 2, and 4

    KEEP GILLISPIE and FIRE BARNHART.

  35. WalkersGoggles

    Calipari!!! Make it happen UK!!!

  36. votedmostlikelytokickurazz

    31. Billy Clyde Gillispie

  38. Roggensak

    30) and why not?

  39. catdawg

    32) If BCG is gone I just want someone good. However, your comment is crazy Billy D in your opinion doesn’t = championships while Calipari does = championships. No matter how you cut it who has the rings and who doesn’t?

  40. zman

After listening to BCG after the game, I will be completely surprised if he’s still our coach after Friday. Part of me feels some sympathy for him and wants him back. I then remember the frustration of watching this last two years and come back to the conclusion that we must make a change. Not even mentioning what must have been going on behind the scenes, which must of have been significant, the lack of adjustments during games and the lack of improvement of the players throughout the season(s) are the real issues. My only concern is that if BCG is released, Barnhart MUST make the RIGHT call this time. Some say Donavon is answer. I disagree. I believe there is only one real answer for us at this time and his name is John Calipari. Sign him and we keep all our recruits next year (plus ppat and meeks), probably have a shot at John Wall and are a preseason top 15….It’s that simple. The nay sayers point to his issue at UMASS. If you go back and read what really happened, the real problem was with Camby not Calipari….If we can’t get Calipari, or at least Donavon, I don’t see how we upgrade our coachng staff enough to blow up our program. Here’s hoping Barnhart makes the call to Memphis!!

  41. UKCatFan01ABC

    24. You’re really off your rocker.

  42. tyson

calipari will not be our coach. todd is scared to death of his recruiting. repeat, it will not be calipari. it is looking more and more like ford.

  43. VOL_FAN _N_KY

Matt, If there is a coaching change will Mitch’s job be on the line with how the new coach does?

  44. bluegrass

guys, Cal is not going to get an offer. get over it.

  45. Squirms

ROOT FOR THE COACH, THE PLAYERS, FOR UK!!!

    OR GO ELSEWHERE…PERIOD.

QUIT BITCHING ABOUT EVERYTHING AND SUPPORT!!!

DID YOU HEAR OSCAR IN PREGAME?!?! HE SAID ‘WHOEVER IT IS, IT’S TIME THE FANS SUPPORT THE
COACH, THEY HAVEN’T DONE IT FULLY FOR 12 YEARS IN IT’S TIME THAT CHANGES’

    AMEN!!!

THE FANS NEED TO QUIT FIGHTING AGAINST EACH OTHER AND FIGHT FOR THE PLAYERS!!!

  46. A-to-the-Z

From John Clay’s blog, it seems like Dr Todd is calling the shots here and he is not happy with BCG. Dr Todd also does not like Caliapari. Couple that with the UCONN mess, I’d say is Donovan or bust.

I was hoping for a change, but to be honest, if it is not Calipari, UK will make a lateral or perhaps backward move. Ford would be terrible. He will be our Matt Doherty.

But then again, Caliapari supposedly relies heavily on the “street-agents” that could UCONN into trouble.

    Aaah, dunno what to think

  47. NewUK

    30) is it possible to think that MAYBE our players are NOT lying to the media.

  48. huffy12spd

    37. playing time, getting your scholly pulled, playing time…just ask bobby perry he can tell you all about it.

  49. uk_we_are_a_football_school

John Calapari will be the next coach at the University of Kentucky.

Billy Donovan turned us down last time so we won’t offer again. Or this could be the Roy Williams scenario….can’t turn it down twice.

Rick Pitino is not leaving Louisville he could have come back two years ago.

Jay Wright is not leaving Nova.

Jamie Dixon will not receive an offer becuase either Cal or Donovan take the job.

Traivs Ford will not receive an offer becuase he is not ready.

  50. zman

I like Travis but he hasn’t shown he can win and recruit at a high level year end and year out. Not to say he won’t be able to do it but since Barnhart took at risk two years ago with a ‘up and comer’, I just don’t see how we can do that again…

  51. JaredCarterIsMyHomeboy

I think lexlamman is Matt Jones.

  52. UK4540

keep billy g! give him a chance!

  53. bluegrass

    48 wrong.

  54. Roggensak

    40) That’s on Matt Jones, He is the one running this site!

I can understand if a fan wants to bring up actual points about a Coach, but to call the University of Kentucky’s coach those names is way out of line! I’m not saying act like MM does with his site, but this one person that is always on here (lexslamman) that straight up TRASHS our coach with name calling, well that is uncalled for.

And actually, those are probably some of the most polite names he has called coach today.

  55. Crakaveli

Why do some of you ask Matt questions on here? He RARELY visits the boards.

  56. LetsGetBackOnTop

Season is over so I guess it is safe now to come out and tell the parts
of the truth I know. I will spare you all the details considering all
the crazy rumors, stories, and possibilites thrown at everyone for a
    month now.

So I’ll just get straight to the points.

It doesn’t matter if you like Gillispie or not, the fact is he is gone.
The reasons you think are not the reason he will be let go.

Mitch will no longer be in charge of the basketball program. He will
be the AD except over basketball. This isn’t uncommon many schools do it.
Tenn does it in football. The person who will be in charege will really
    be exciting to UK fans.

Who is the next coach? I have no clue just rumors like you all are hearing.
I am hoping for the best but I am afraid we will end up with what many of
you will consider not good enough yet coach. I would agree with that. This
hire would be very disapointing but I am just guessing like everyone else
    I have no idea.

  57. JaredCarterIsMyHomeboy

48 we never really offered Donovan last time. They called him to “gauge” his interest and since we didn’t offer and just asked if he would be willing he said he wasn’t interested.

  58. UKCatFan01ABC

lexslamman is a bitter little man.

  59. KY WILDCAT

Is there anyway that Coach Gillispie will return next year or am I getting my hopes up for nothing.

  60. bluegrass

56 oh we offered with a contract but I will be suprised if he says no this time around

  61. uk_we_are_a_football_school

whether we offered Donovan or not last time, he clearly shot us down and made us look bad. The people at UK haven’t forgot that.

  62. Crakaveli

    57. I hope BCG is still the coach for the sole purpose to let Lexslamman have it for the rest of BCG’s tenure.

  63. HanOfTheBluegrass

My guess/expectation – no sources beyond what I read in articles and have seen on tv.

Due to the number of people who think he is gone, I think that Gillispie has either already accepted a modified buyout, or he has a very slight chance of being retained (i.e. he’s been told by Barnhart/Todd that they’re very disappointed and are considering their options).

Their options are to go after one of the Elite coaches, namely Calipari, Donovan and Izzo. It’s possible Pitino, Wright, and maybe 1-2 other coaches are on the list. Pelphrey, Ford and Grant would not be.

If any of these people agrees to come here (under the table if still coaching), Gillispie will be shown the door, and the new coach will be given a chance to speak to every player and recruit to decide who he wants. I.E. try to convince Jodie and Patrick to return regardless of their Draft Stock, try to convince Orton and Hood to still come (I think if Patterson stays, Orton still comes). And also to decide who he wants off the team, especially if bringing anyone with him (as everyone hopes a Calipari would). It’s also possible someone like Tucker would be unoffered, unofficially.

    Again, just my guesses.
I would guess that while their are things about Gillispie that all our players like, almost all of our players could be convinced to stay on if he leaves. Meeks has already gone thru one change, and his draft stock isn’t super high. Patterson could go pro, but he would be well served to play another year, unless he fears injuries or is really, really close to coach. Miller surely cares a little more about the Kentucky name on his jersey than some of the other guys.

As for departing players, I’d guess it’s possible Porter could leave, as he has a family to worry about, and won’t be playing pro (he could go into coaching). Harris should consider his health. He’s one of my favorite players, but he could be killed by another head injury. Liggins and Stewart are likely gone unless a new coach asks them to stay and makes promises. Galloway, Harrelson, and any other embattled players (like Stevenson) will make their choice, but I don’t expect incoming seniors like Perry or Galloway to transfer unless they really don’t want to play for next year’s coach.

I think Gillispie has the coaching and recruiting ability to have a better year and career than this year, but if he can’t handle the media/pressure better, it is probably time for him to go.

But if UK can’t guarantee a Top Flight hire (Calipari, Donovan, Izzo, Pitino, or someone else with a Final Four or 2), they should keep Gillispie and let him coach his recruits, and force him to go through some PR classes.

  64. bluegrass

61 me too but that isn’t happening

  65. MonstaMash93

If Barnhart does not offer Cal, he should immediately be terminated.

  66. uk_we_are_a_football_school

If the new coach is Billy Donovan or Travis Ford we should know by Friday. If not, then it’s someone left in the Tourney.

  67. chucknorrisstotalgym

***Matt*** I’m hearing that Pelphrey will be offered the job. I can’t beleive that. It’s too risky of a pick. Is that what you are hearing?

  68. Crakaveli

Here’s a fact from my “source.” And even though some of you will never believe this and have no reason to believe me this is fact…

My source says, “none of you know anything.”

  69. david8577

Aren’t we firing the only guy who wanted to coach for this God forsaken fan base? My guess is that our next coach just had a very good season coaching a middle school team.

  70. LetsGetBackOnTop

Anyone who tells you they know for sure who the next coach is, is lying
to you. They might get lucky and get it right but the truth is nobody
knows and the Admin hasn’t even gotten a YES answer yet, just a very
probably. Sorry, they have gotten one YES but you don’t want him as
our coach but we very well could end up with him. If so say good bye
to half the team and recruits coming in.

Truth is nobody knows who the next coach, it is impossible because the
Admin doesn’t even know, they are still in the process of moving Mitch
around and getting the guy who will be in charge of the basketball program
in here and I am sure he will wants some say so who is the new coach.

If anyone did know who the next coach was they wouldn’t be coming on
here saying it anways. Not if they really loved UK because if we did,
which we don’t, already had a new coach lined up it could really hurt
us closing the deal before it became offical.

A real UK fan wouldn’t want word to get out and give that school a chance
to hold on to the coach. So anyone who says they know who the next coach
is would be lying for many reasons.

  71. shOOter

Luke Harangody has a head like a Bastard Rat!

  72. huffy12spd

    46. yes. there is a chance that our players are not lying to the media…my point was merely that we dont know what they are saying in confidential settings with university officials. they may or may not be telling the truth, but one thing is for sure; you can never put 100% stock in the things that they say to the media

  73. lexslamman

    45.

So does Gillispie. How do you think we got in on Ater Majok? Let’s be honest with each other here – Gillispie has had entire recruiting rules written because of his questionable recruiting methods and ethics. Gillispie is well known a pretty shady recruiter and he made his way to UK. Why couldn’t Calipari?

  74. shOOter

Hell, I say we bring in John Pelphrey.

  75. bluegrass

It would be fun to steal Crean from Indiana.

  76. byebillyhellobilly

I hope they already had an agreement with Donovan or Cal before the NIT.

  77. byebillyhellobilly

Crean can keep his monkey ass in Bloomington.

  78. Crakaveli

73, What did he win 2 or 3 games this year in a WEAK SEC? Nice choice buddy.

  79. lexslamman

Sounds pretty clearly like Liggins is gone if Gillispie returns, and I don’t blame him. Gillispie’s grind-it-out style of ball is poorly suited for Liggins’s talents, he hasn’t responded well to Gillispie’s coaching methods, and the guy is a top 40 recruit who rides the pine for 35 minutes a game. He’d be much better in the hands of a top-flight coach like Donovan or Calipari.

  80. SlickRick48

As a point of reference, Bill Self lost 6 guys who logged minutes in the championship game last year and has his team back in the Sweet 16 this year.

Billy Donovan has been to two straight NIT’s after his championship run.

Calipari is a recruiting violation waiting to happen.

Other than Donovan or Calipari we’re not likely to get another big name coach. So where does that leave us? Gambling on another up-and-comer?

  81. I Miss 1996.

55: Who would be our “Basketball A.D.”? Enlighten me.

  82. LetsGetBackOnTop

#66 Your in luck. I am very good friends with JP and have already
talked to him and he said he isn’t the next UK coach. He doesn’t even
know who is on the list but he knows he isn’t on it.

Don’t worry about Mitch anymore people, he isn’t calling the shots
anymore. Mitch will be the AD over everything except basketball. The
new man who will be in charge of basketball will be someone that every
UK fan will be happy about.

Stop listening to people who say they know for a fact who the next coach
is. Truth is a coach hasn’t been hired yet, the Admin still doesn’t know.

Plus if anyone was a true UK fan and really knew, which there is no way
they could, they would be spilling the beans bc it could do a lot of
    damage if word got out.

  83. bluegrass

73 retarded he won 2 games in sec could you imagine if he did that here.

  84. WildcatSam

If Gillispie is gone (and I have mixed feelings about it, tbh), then I hope we could get Calipari. I enjoy watching his teams play. I’m not crazy about the idea of Billy Donovan and I don’t like the idea of Travis Ford at this point in time. I think that if you bring in Ford and he doesn’t do well, you’re kind of ruining the good image that already rests inside the minds of many Kentucky fans…no need to do that…

If all this drama really does end up with Gillispie moving on, then I hope we don’t throw good money after bad and that we’ll really bring in a coach who is good, can bring in recruits, and make the games exciting and fun to watch. To me, that’s Calipari…

  85. Crakaveli

    82. Don’t say retarded! The retards might get offended.

  86. Roggensak

    72) because Calipari is beating up C-USA every year. What does he have to worry about? Why would he leave? to take on a job where Idiot wanna be fans like you can cry and call him every name you can think of when he doesn’t win?

    http://www.kentucky.com/818/story/739327.html

We’re hearing a lot about Liggins’ comment, but that’s the only place I’ve seen Porter’s.

  90. byebillyhellobilly

If Todd and Barnhart get rid of Gillispie and hire Donvan or Cal i will have confidence in them. Anyone else and both can be gone in my opinion. No one other than those two guys will do.

  91. Crakaveli

    86. So Pat Riley is gonna come here and deal with children?

  92. TJ Taylor

I can think of one and only one logical reason why an all out vote of support would not have been given by Lee Todd and/or Mitch Barnhart in this most recent statement. That being that they have given Coach Gillispie until the day after the season (in this case Thursday) to give them an answer to his willingness to make the changes and apologies they may have demanded.

Otherwise, NOT saying he is absolutely going to be our coach and taking all doubt away would be the most monumental blunder I have ever seen this school make.

Outside of that one reason, it makes no logical sense that they intend to keep Coach Gillispie and not swat all doubt at this time.

Agree with the conclusion or not, what appears logical tends to be how things eventually turn out 4 out of 5 times.

  93. AustinW

    86. Enough with the Dan Issel rumor. It’s already made the rounds.

  94. landbetweenlake

Don’t feel too sorry for Billy he has six million reason’s to be happy, he’s been a a** and that’s ok if you win but he hasn’t so he get’s the ax. Don’t be like Alabama and switch coaches 5 times in 10 years bring in not a college guy but a NBA guy.

  95. HanOfTheBluegrass

In 88, Porter was of course speaking within the context of returning next year, and becoming a father this coming summer.

  96. LetsGetBackOnTop

Calipari will be a great choice but as of right now he hasn’t been
contacted but if his season was to end soon he better be contacted
or someone needs to be shot

I still don’t think he will be our coach, who knows I hope I hear
    things that change my mind

  97. lexslamman

    77.

Ford is a better choice, but we’d be in a similar boat with him (young, unproven coach) as we are with Gillispie. The only difference is that Ford understands the spotlight and the relationships that you need to build and nurture to be a great head coach at Kentucky. If he gets another year or two of coaching experience under his belt, he’d make a great replacement for our next coach if it comes to that. For that matter, lets face the facts: Gillispie is a seat-warmer who was brought in because no coach wants to have to follow a proven hall-of-fame high elite coach in Tubby Smith. Gillispie came in, fell flat on his face, and now UK can bring in the savior from the wings to put it back in the final four, and that man is…

…Billy Donovan from what I’ve heard. Shame. My preference was for Calipari.

Most appropriate quote of the night, so far.

  103. UKfan215

Before today I was 50/50 on whether Gillispie would get another year or not. But after hearing Todd’s comments, I think it is basically obvious now that Gillispie won’t be retained.

I just hope that we don’t end up with Donovan and can manage to get Calipari. But I’m not holding my breath. We’ll probably end up with someone who is no better than Gillispie while running off all our recruits and convincing both Meeks and Patterson to enter the draft. If that happens, the only thing we will accomplish is just add several more years to the total it will take to get UK back to the top.

Therefore I have very mixed feelings about all of this. Unless we can get someone of the caliber of Calipari or Izzo, proven consistent winners over the long haul (not a flash in the pan like Donovan), I’d rather just stick with Gillispie. If we lose him, get a mediocre coach and end up losing all of our recruits, then we are screwed. And it will take years to dig out of such a mess.

Ah well, if that happens, maybe the Gillispie haters will be happy. Maybe that will finally be enough to prove the idiocy that runs rampant among UK fans is causing more harm to our program than any other single factor. And I will remember their names when the time comes to remind folks of who got us into such a mess. And outside landing Calipari or Izzo, I don’t see next year being anything besides a total and complete disaster, with future seasons also being pretty grim.

I’m sick of the rumor, gossip, and innuendo about our coach floated by people like lexslamman who don’t know anything. Gillispie shouldn’t worry though. If given time here he would cut down some NCAA championship nets, if he goes somewhere else he can do that in a few years and then we’ll see what is and what is not a mistake.

This team works their butts off, and some of the credit for that goes to Gillispie. Imagine how good we’d be next year with 4 or 5 high-level players instead of 2 if everyone plays that hard. We’re turning around to swim back to the other shore when we’re 4/5 of the way across the river. Who knows if we’ll make it back. I can’t believe this is really going to happen. Calipari might be the only guy who can salvage this mistake quickly.

  109. drewsster02

    Matt,
Any chance Patterson pulls the Jimmy Chipwood trick, “I’m gonna play ball…but only if coach stays.”

  110. LetsGetBackOnTop

I haven’t seen anyone get close to the reason why Gillispie is going
to be let go. It isn’t what you think. I am not going to say but
if this helps you get an idea of what is going on then, there is still
a slight chance he could be our coach again. Please don’t get your
hopes up if you are one who likes Gillispie because the chance is
very small that something changes. There has been to much planning
for the future without Gillispie to expect things to change again.

  111. Crakaveli

    Pat Riley=not happening EVER.

  112. UKCatFan01ABC

    96. Didn’t you hear the rumors? Billy D said no.

  113. byebillyhellobilly

I want whoever comes in to get MASHBURN on ths staff ASAP. Think about the players he could get out of NY and the draw that he would be for recruits everywhere.

  114. lexslamman

By the way, according to Notre Dame guard Kyle McAlarney, beating Kentucky “felt like a Big East game”.

Heheh. At least we merit being compared with the best conference in college basketball this year.

  115. vator32nh

Can you even imagine how good Patterson would be if they ran an organized offense?

  116. bige

Hope it doesn’t happen but if it does Todd and Barnhart need to have a top flight coach already in place and not go on some roller coaster ride.

  117. A-to-the-Z

    85

Anybody that refers to Kentucky as UofK is clearly a Louisville fan. Have no fear, we could have Jared Carter as coach and Uk would still beat you guys at least 75% of the time.

  118. HanOfTheBluegrass

    96) If Gillispie is gone, I’m not really excited about any of the best case scenarios, as each has some baggage.

Calipari has a reputation for shadiness, deserved or not. But he has been recruiting stars and his teams playing well, cakewalk conference or not.

Donovan has been to 2 straight NITs after having all the recruiting power of 2 titles. He also burned us (and Florida, and Orlando, and Grant) 2 years ago.

Izzo (I don’t think he leaves MSU) plays a slower brand, albeit a very good one.

Pitino – not coming, but seen as a traitor by too many.

Those are the only home runs I can think of.

Ford and Pelphrey, or Horn or some other UK/Kentucky kid, are still young. Pelphrey’s coming off a bad year in this conference, and Ford is said to have a temper (not unlike Gillispie). Their glory days here will only buy them so much good will. Gillispie’s passion and recruiting was supposedly going to buy him 3 years, but most voices are bidding him farewell.

  119. byebillyhellobilly

115 If they take us on a ride they need to be fired themselves.

  120. LetsGetBackOnTop

Please don’t listen to anyone who says they know who the next coach is.
They are just guessing and hoping they get lucky. Truth is the Admin
doesn’t even know and if they did and someone had the information
why would they share that on the internet knowing it could damage
the chances of actually getting that coach. Doesn’t matter anyways
    because nothing is final yet.

  121. bluegrass

113 you won’t hear that anymore with the coaches you want.

  122. bige

Calipari lost the title on free throws and you still want him? Who else does that?
Oh that’s right, we did that with Pitino in 97.

  123. bigjas

#73…yeah, he burned up the SEC down at Arkansas.

  124. HanOfTheBluegrass

    114) Imagine if someone passed him the ball. Or if he had a reliable guy at the 5 with him (God love ya Perry). Next year will be better if Patterson stays, joined by Pilgrim and Orton (I think Patterson is a bigger factor for Orton than Gillispie).

  125. lexslamman

    111.

He tops the list. I have no idea who will be the one to take the job, but most people seem to think that Donovan will take it. Some folks are so star-struck by the monolithic greatness of Billy Gillispie that their little hearts are broken that he’s leaving, so they’re predicting gloom-and-doom. I think that this is set up to play out pretty well, personally.

  126. byebillyhellobilly

120 he wasn’t talking about how good we are because in fact are are a terrible basketball teaam.

  127. Kantukeeslim

Can someone remind me how many championships Calipari has won? And why coming to UK will change his track record of “not winning the big one”?

  128. vator32nh

Bottom line Gillespie is horrid on the sidelines, doesnt adjust to anything (sorry he played that triangle 2 against creighton) and he is a smart@ss to the national media. He is a great recruiter. The head coach at UK has to be more than the head coach. He is in charge of the most important thing in the state.

  129. JATR4

    LEXBLOMAN:

  130. LetsGetBackOnTop

#117 There is good chance the coach that will end up here isn’t an
improvement from Gillispie and maybe even worse. I doubt it will
go that far because that would be the end of a few top UK people
if they didn’t get lucky and hit a homerun.

However from what I am hearing there is still a good chance someone
on your list who I think would be a disapointment could end up with
    the job

  131. LaughingAtRetardz
  132. lexslamman

    110.

I could see him take a job as AD, but not as long as Mitch Barnhart wants to be here. The guy is adored by everyone who works with him AND by the UK Administration. I would be fairly shocked if the Gillispie mistake costs him his job. Then again, it is strange that Dr. Todd seems to have become the one doing the talking over this matter. Technically, he should be keeping his mouth shut and letting Barnhart handle the release of information. This and the fact that Barnhart hasn’t said anything about the Gillispie situation are not unrelated, if you catch my drift.

  133. bluegrass

125 I was referring to physical play.

I bet he would take this year’s team to the sweet 16 if he is the coach. I don’t think Calipari gets out of the first round with this years team.

  140. lexslamman

    120.

With the coaches I want we’d play too fast for every Big East team except Louisville.

  145. CrunkieBrewster

  146. byebillyhellobilly

I have to believe there are powers around this program that would NEVER, EVER allow a coach with a poor reputation of rules compliance (justified or not), ever coach for this school.

The majority of you here are quite young. Some so young you can not remember Eddie Sutton. For those of who still fell the sting from the mess he left behind, I can not believe it would ever be allowed. Not here!

The majority, if not all those supporters are more than old enough to remember. Supporters old enough have made their millions, who use their deep pockets not only for UK’s sports programs but many other aspects as well.

Calipari will never be allowed to coach here. I just can’t see it ever being tolerated by the old guard that control millions in donations.

So what’s the difference between Pitino when he first came to UK, and Travis Ford.

Of course there’e the Nets, and a Final Four, and those are huge.

But in terms of age, years experience, is the gap still pretty wide?

This whole mess makes me more and more mad (old wounds reopened) that he didn’t freaking stay put in Lexington.

Now people keep telling me how much the UL team looks like RP’s old UK teams . . . I want to vomit.

  151. huffy12spd

i used to think calipari was a hands-down better candidate than donovan, but after looking at their records i’m not so sure

    Donovan
    3 national championship games/2 championships
    1 other sweet 16
    2 NIT’s
    Calipari
    1 national championship game/0 championships
    1 final four
    2 elite eights/1 sweet 16
    5 NIT’s (3 @memphis)

…so now i’m not sure what you guys think?

BCG has been to UK basketball these last two hazy, crazy, head scratching years, what Robert Gibbs is to Obama’s public relations dept, inept, inadequate, comical and clearly in over his head. Move on BCG, Move on!

  156. LetsGetBackOnTop

As of today Calipari hasn’t been contacted, I would expect he would
be once his season is over unless UK gets one of their top choices
real soon and they want to start the process of trying to keep what we
have that is good and keep what we have coming in 09.

You have to think about who are President is (standup guy) and what
is going on with UConn right now. Calipari, in the eyes of Todd, might

2 years. They have to hit a homerun and they know it. Grant be too
much of a risk in their eyes.

    Ciprian_True_Blue CHECK

  167. 2020

I’m going to commit heresy. BCG is a horrible recruiter. Before you puke, look at the facts.

As horrible as Tubby’s recruits were, they played far better than BCG’s recruits this year. (Tubby would have landed PPat)

Amazing ALL the guys that BCG brought in this year. And they contributed NOTHING. Sure, Miller is nice, but most teams have 2 freshman who contribute way more than he did. Liggins, Harrelson, Galloway, Slone, Donald Williams (really?), Adam Delph (who?), Jarvis Walker (buh-bye)… complete recruiting air balls for this team. AAAAIIIRRR BALL. AAAAIIIRRR BALL.

If they’re not coachable, or if they don’t fit in the system, BCG shouldn’t have recruited them. What was he thinking?

Did BCG really see Liggins play in high school and think “That guy will play for me”? Anyone could have seen Liggins on tape and said “That guy will piss BCG off by playing way too fast and out of control and will never play significant minutes.” If BCG sat Crawford on the pine for half of his senior year for being “loose”, what he did he like in Liggins to recruit him?

Are you serious? So in your mind getting providence to the FF is like taking EKU to the dance? Taking Umass to the NIT and OSU to the big dance and winning a game is similar to taking the Knicks to the conference finals?

Please rethink what you just asked. Seriously.

  181. TJ Taylor

If we end up needing a coach on Friday, I say you make Tom Izzo look us in the eye and say he isn’t leaving Michigan State.

If post season results are your biggest issue, there is not a better choice out there. Period!

  182. BluesMan

If Donovan agreed to be our next coach last Friday, I dare say that there is not a single poster of this blog who would want to have him here. That would be a complete betrayal to sign on to coach another team while your current one is still playing. Especially considering that if Florida and Kentucky could have played each other in the semifinals.

    Of course, you’re lying.

  183. Kantukeeslim

    174. You do realized the academic standards at Memphis are far less than UK’s, right? Cal won’t be able to get the same level of (cough)student(cough)athelete at UK.

  184. LetsGetBackOnTop

    #175 WRONG and LYING AGAIN!
He has been contacted but it wasn’t Friday, Gillispie still had
a chance to sign his contract on Friday.

And nothing is done yet with any possible new coach. Donovan won’t
sign if he is given the same contract to sign Gillispie had offered to
    him.

I do think Donovan has said yes but yes he be interested.

and if you really had inside info you wouldn’t be spreading it on
    the internet.

and anyone can come on here throw out a wild guess and say, “if it happens
you can kiss my butt and I told you so”. It isn’t like your going out
on a limb guessing Donovan and hope you get it right, LOL

  185. _Blackhawk_

Why do some what to go after Grant who has half the experience as Billy G and no more success??? Just because he was high on Florida’s list when Billy D left for 15 minutes? Please if it is going to be done have a guy come in that has a bit longer track record that 3 or 4 seasons as a head coach.

  186. votedmostlikelytokickurazz

Seriously, why would it matter if anyone signed a week ago? That’s no different than Tubby having inked a deal with Minnesota prior to the end of career at UK.

  187. TJ Taylor

LetsGetBackOnTop: you really don’t think there is an “in the know” person here do you? Or at least one anybody could identify as a real person behind a fake internet name.

Pitino. Pitino’s pretty good in the post season – then again, so is Izzo, I don’t know who is best among active coaches (something tells me it might be Kryzewski). The problem is that Pitino’s 1) too old and 2) not leaving Louisville.

  189. Ciprian_True_Blue

Lets all hit the Caps Lock Button on our computers and then type
who you think will be our next coach. However, you have to say
who the next coach will be as if you actually knew for sure.

Then in all caps right – “when that person is announced as head coach
that means you can count on me as reliable source”

The trick is you have to throw out an obivious name. You can’t go
out on a limb and throw out names that haven’t been thrown around.
That would be a violation of the “Ciprian_True_Blue” rule

  200. LetsGetBackOnTop

#195 Bobby Knight isn’t obivious enough and would be a violation

name so your chances of getting it right are really high and you
can pretend what was really your guess, as something you actually knew.

Plus you have to do it in ALL CAPS, that makes it more dramatic

  201. ukhooligan

Someone else have a good one?

  207. lexslamman

    200.

  209. ikeeveready

As for Calipari all you have to do is google Worldwide Wes and you’ll get a good taste of why he won’t come to UK. Combine this “goodwill ambassador”/”surrogate uncle”/shoe company agent/”advisor”/”pimp” to Derrick Rose, Chris Douglas-Roberts, Tyreke Evans & now John Wall with a little something called the NCAA Academic Progress Report which can penalize you for UP TO 10% of your scholarships for failing to make the grade and Calipari would be MONUMENTALLY STUPID. All of you who think is the man need to do your homework!

As for Donovan, Anthony Grant was the prime recruiter for the great class from ’04 and the Associate Head Coach during the ’06 Championship season. In fact he was Donovans right hand from the Marshall days. How has Billy D faired without him? Maybe at UK he could do better maybe not.

Unless here have been a ton of off the court issues that none of us know about the on the court stuff has not been enough to get Clyde fired. He told Andy Katz Monday that he wanted o be back next year so Mitch & Lee better get this right and give everyone some backup if they decide to end it because it is ALL ON THEM NOW. There can be no “we all talked and figured out that it just wasn’t working”.

BTW, Patterson could have said alot of things about GIllispie to “fake” his support, saying “I LOVE Coach Gillispie” is not one of those things. These guys have definitely not played like a team that has quit on their coach in the NIT. IF anything they have played like they wanted him to stay!

It’s not that difficult transforming yourself into a fantasy insider.

You put a few real life things together. See were it all appears to being leading. Make the all important educated guess that seems just logical enough. Then shout it out as loud and as often as you can. Word it in a manner than sounds as if you have real insight that isn’t quite public knowledge. But leave just enough generalization in the wording that you can blame on the missing piece of the puzzle that you are sworn not to divulge and you have become an “insider.”

..and if it turns out you are wrong, so what people move on a forget. Worst case scenario, you have to change you internet alias to hide the shame of the last alias.

Once I had a “fake” organism. Got it from one of those bubble gum machines things. All slimey and creepy looking.

I’m hearing that Pitino will be the Basketball AD and that Knight will be his special advisor. Pat Riley and Dan Issel are going to handle recruiting and Donovan or Cal will be the coach.

You are all a bunch of jackasses. Go to sleep children. Obviously nothing is certain yet and will not be until Friday. Please step away from the lap tops.

G and assts gave farewell speeches to the team tonight.

It was nice knowing you, Billy Clyde. Good luck wherever you go, until you come up against the Wildcats again, which you inevitably will because the tournament committee is filled with a bunch of sadistic drama queens that insist on punishing teams like Utah year, after year, after year. Can’t wait to kick your ass, sincerely, the UK fan base.

Maybe ive missed a few posts, but why does every one hate lexslamman? He doesnt seem to be too bad from the small amount ive read. My second question, is why the hate toward cyprian true blue? He is only trying to tell us what he believes to be the truth. How do any of us no for sure that he is or isnt lying. I for one am glad to hear different peoples opinions, and take them for thought. For all we know he could be completely correct and know exactly what he is talking about. If people didnt speculate, and tell what they have been told, then half the people wouldnt get on here. People are here for answers, and possibilties. All they want is hope. For the record I believe Gillispie is a good coach and a good person, but at this point it may be time to part ways. Im a firm believer in a coach getting at least 4 years to bring in his players and get his system going the way he needs it to. I wish coach the best of luck where ever he ends up. If its at Kentucky then I have full confidence that in time he will get things turned around, but if its some where else I see nothing but success in his future. Good luck coach! Go cats!!! lets all united behind whoever is our coach next season and put all the negativity behind us. We love the cats, thats all the commonality we need!!!

THE DECISION HAS BEEN MADE. IT’S PAT SUMMIT!!!! WE ARE GOING TO MAKE HISTORY.

    216) I actually wouldn’t care. Did you see what she did to the UT team after getting beat in the tourney. She made them practice and plans to do so as long as allowed by rules. She told them straight up that them getting beat in the 1st round was UNACCEPTABLE! Sure would be nice to get that at UK.

  219. catdawg

And she sure wasn’t smiling while doing it either.

  220. MIDDAY

I would support Pat Summit. That would be something else. You think she could recruit men?

  221. jaxcat1

It will be a mistake not to give the coach another year in Lexington. With that said if the administration
caves to fan pressure they had better bring in a well know coach who has a history of delivering at a big
time program- prehaps the Memphis coach, or the Texas coach, perhaps Billy Donovan.
