[Moderated by Matt Jones]

According to our friend Bomani Jones (who is based in Raleigh), North Carolina is now actively pursuing John Wall, as of last night. So that means that the four best programs in the land in my view (UNC, UK, Duke, Kansas) are all still going after the star PG. Quite a battle…..

If they started recruiting him last night, wouldn’t that run afoul of the recruiting dead period this week?
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:28 pm
Dad-gum tarheels… back the f*@k off
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:28 pm
I have total faith in Cal.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:29 pm
Now Coach Calipari can show that he is worth the Big Bucks, leave unc, duke, and kansas standing on the side while he brings Wall to town..
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:30 pm
FIRST let me say I’m not surprised. Secondly, GO CATS!
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:30 pm
Looks like Roy will be playing with a 3-Wood…
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:31 pm
Cal will get Wall here, mark it down. and Roy W. wouldnt know what to do with snaggle tooth big breasted chick above, other than sign her tank top
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:31 pm
Let’s all just chill the eff out and let Don Calipari work his mafia magic.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:34 pm
She was definately qualified to work there….NICE.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:36 pm
Wall should just go ahead and sign with UK. though i would say he is quite flattered that four of the top programs in the country are all after him now. but i think that UK`s need for a great pg is greater than any of the others. i would think that wall will pick the team that he could make the most impact with, and that would be UK! GO BIG BLUE!!!
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:36 pm
So now we are rooting for Ty Lawson to come back for another season? Check out some decent posts by the guys over at http://www.roundballportfolio.blogspot.com
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:36 pm
I bet ol’roy got a stiffy.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Why on earth would you put UNC ahead of UK when listing the four best programs in the land? Not acceptable. I demand you re-post this article.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:39 pm
Can we sign someone when you don’t have a scholarship?
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:39 pm
12
I dont know about that, ole roy is getting pretty old! HAHAHA
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:42 pm
14 - You can do that. UNC and UConn do that frequently because they anticipate guys going pro. We did it a few years back, and eventually took Estill off scholarship when there weren’t enough to go around because he was eligible for free tuition.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:42 pm
15) V-I-A-G-R-A!!!
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:43 pm
Don’t leave out Baylor!
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:43 pm
This is just one more reason to beg for Carolina to get their A$$ beat. I ain’t sweatin this though, I NOW have tons of faith in our new recruiting corp.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:44 pm
13
UK!, unc, kansas and puke. in that order!
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:44 pm
You can’t expect Cal’s Memphis recruits to immediately verbal to UK. We currently don’t have room on the roster and it would be a PR baffle and faux pas on Cal’s part. Just let things work themselves out and you will be happy.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:48 pm
who is Don Chavez and why is his name floating around the air in that picture?
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:50 pm
22
maybe he is the photographer. just a guess
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:51 pm
OK. Thanks for the info. If you check the recruiting sites it seems that every team out there thinks they may have a shot at Henry, Wall or Cousins.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:54 pm
guys, as much as it would be nice to have wall, realistically i dont think that its blindingly important that he come. we have orton and hood in the basket, and i think its likely that cousins comes. coach cals offense is based off of big athletic guards and forwards. liggings and galloway i think will do very well in the system being that theyre big athletic penetrating guards. no we wont win the national championship but we’ll be an extremely competitive ball club that prolly reaches the sweet 16. im betting that that cousins or orton will be enough to replace patterson after he leaves his junior year (should he stay this year) meeks while yes hes done some dank amazing stuff can be replaced, remember, calipari actually runs an offense, so a guy doesnt need to score 54 for his team to win. dont freak out if we dont get this kid, we’ll still be pretty damn good.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:54 pm
UNC is only going after Wall because they know UK will be unstoppable if we get him.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:57 pm
#25 I applaud your optimism, but, we are in need of a POINTGUARD and all of the players you named are big men. Hood happens to be a pointguard. But please brother keep the good vibes coming!
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:57 pm
25, KY had all kinds of problems handling the ball last year. I think that is critical that KY gets a PG. Wall is hands down the favorite. They need Wall more than they need Cousins or Henry.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:58 pm
24
i went to a few of those sites, puke really thinks they are getting wall. the unc fans was talking a lot of smack about uk but the puke fans wasnt saying much. there was a UK fan on the duke site talking smack to the puke fans but they still didnt say much back, they was just asking him to leave. i guess they didnt want to get in an argument they couldnt win
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:59 pm
Hey i am on top of it I just reported a UNC recruiting violation.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:59 pm
29, no they just didnt care and were above the idiot smack talking
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:59 pm
MMMMM, Hooters
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:01 pm
If I’m any judge of talent, Wall starts on any team in the country, I think he is that good. Truth be known, even though Henry is a wing, he probably handles the ball better than anyone we have right now. Galloway can handle the ball well, but that space between his ears keeps getting him into trouble. I think now that he has some guidance, he’ll be much improved.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:03 pm
31
i know a few duke fans and believe me they are not a bit above smack talking. but i know all fans are not that way
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:05 pm
any of the 4 schools have a major chance at getting him, i wouldnt say theres a leader in getting wall at all. if anything i would figure that duke would be the favorite being that he visited them last and lives in north carolina, and 2nd i think would be UNC because well, hell theyre in the final four and he is from north carolina. the thing that calipari has the advantage of almost having him at memphis. just try to think that hes seen the stuff here and that obviously didnt win him over. so maybe having calipari alone wont be enough, who knows. well find out i guess
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:06 pm
We need Wall, UNC knows that- With him we will be a top 5 team all year, Roy is nervous.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Wall is the best PG in the country. Any top teir team would be stupid not to at least show interest.
In the past this would mean we would lose out.
This is not the past.
A new day has dawned!
Put the negativity behind us!!!
Open the window and repeat after me….
(sorry I got a little carried away - you get the point)
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Aw shit. Hopefully they are too late in the game to really have much impact on his decision. It’s time we step up and really get these big time recruits.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:07 pm
I’ve heard that Svoboda is after Wall also.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:07 pm
35
are you a duke fan or a fan of the acc? just curious
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:08 pm
Svoboda drinks Don Chavez’s milkshake.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:09 pm
40)lol are you really asking that question. its called being realistic.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:09 pm
There’s only one rea…I’m mean two reasons you go to hooters and one of them is not the food.

Doesn’t look like we’re going to get Henry……
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:11 pm
Looks like Xavier is going to be a Jayhawk.

April 3rd, 2009 at 2:12 pm
Oh, do they sell food?
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:12 pm
44, nice timing.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:13 pm
That was pretty much a given from jump street.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:13 pm
i love my kentucky to death, but im not gonna be a blind idiot about it, just cause i love uk doesnt mean that because we got a really good coach that automatically that were gonna just dominate everything and everyone thats ever gonna be good at basketball is going to crawl here. thats stupid. the kid is from north carolina, and right now frankly duke and north carolina are better than us. yes it sure as hell pisses me off, but im gonna give credit where credit is due.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:14 pm
=)
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:15 pm

well you said that the duke fans were above idiot smack talking, and you said that duke should be the favorite for wall since he visited them last and then unc being his second choice.
but i respect your opion. i appologise
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:20 pm
#51 Svoboda stomps on your opion.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:20 pm
51) is it unrealistic to think that the major schools in the kids home state would be the leaders for his services?
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:30 pm
My gut says we will be doing good if we get one of the four: Cousins, Henry, Wall and Fergie… It’s hard to come in this late in the game, even if they love the new coach!!!
Thoughts
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:33 pm
Who knows, maybe Cal would play Darius at point next year.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Most consider it to just be a name on a list. There is a good chance Wall will end up at Baylor. His AAU coach is there. AAU coaches play a big role in all of this IMO.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:37 pm
John Wall won’t go to UNC. He never had them on his list.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:40 pm
#54. IMO Cousins and Wall for this year would be great. I wonder if Orten and Cousins want to play together. Cousins seems like he wants to come in and be “The MAN” and then go pro. With Patterson Orten and Cousins there is not alot of mins for big men. Henry will stay at Memphis with his brother or go to Kansas I don’t see him at UK. Ferguson is up in that air but I think he will stay with UK.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:40 pm
Take it for what it’s worth. I live in Raleigh and John Wall Grandmother works at my country club. She said that baylor was John’s favorite at this point. She has said Memphis in the past. Let’s hope she is wrong and Coach Cal can reel him in.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:41 pm
53
no its not unrealistic to think that. i get carried away sometimes. maybe wall will choose UK and maybe he wont. we will probably find out in a few weeks
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Louisville has also entered
the bidding for Wall and we
all know they have the best
recruiter in college BB, one
Steve Masiello.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:48 pm
#57 and Cal won’t come to Kentucky. I’ve heard those absolutes before.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:57 pm
56, Vol Fan, I’m heading to the “Smokies” in the morning.. Can’t wait to pay that 10% sales tax… :o)
April 3rd, 2009 at 3:03 pm
Doesne’t want to play behind Meeks…so very expected! However, the real lottery we want to win is Mr. John Wall!!!
Flag City
April 3rd, 2009 at 3:05 pm
#63 LOL I hear ya it sux but not having a state income tax is nice.
April 3rd, 2009 at 3:07 pm
Both UNC and Duke normally get their targeted players!
But, I think we have an excellent chance of getting John Wall.
UK has the tradition, the big national exposure, and will surround him with quality players, as does UNC, Duke and Kansas.
UK has the bigger need for him, the biggest hole in the roster, and has John Calipari, who I feel among the 4 coaches, is best able to get him optimally prepared for the next level.
But no matter what he decides, there is no such thing as a bad decision between the 4 schools.
April 3rd, 2009 at 3:12 pm
Matt, better tell your boy Roy that last night was part of the dead period for recruiting:

#59 - Baylor?!!! We talkin’ bout Baylor??!!
April 3rd, 2009 at 5:05 pm
In the 11:00 hour of the Lunch Break, we reported that Roy Williams called John Wall Thursday night. Take that one to the bank. No take that one to the NCAA.
April 3rd, 2009 at 5:30 pm
wonder if old roys boner started crying?
April 3rd, 2009 at 8:37 pm
#68) I don’t know John, but selfishly I hope John comes to UK. No matter what, I hope he makes it in the Pro’s because his Grandmother is such and wonderful and gracious Lady.
April 4th, 2009 at 1:07 am
[...] in case you have not heard today, it looks like Ol’ Roy is trying to get involved in the John Wall sweepstakes along with Coach Krzyzewskzzryzkwizyzki from Duke and of course, Coach [...]
