Quick, name the best Italian that you know off the top of your head. Some may have said Rudolph Guiliani, others might have gone with Al Pacino and some may have even thought about The Disco Inferno. But for my money, there is no Italian more valuable to our nation’s well-being than Tony Danza, the star of Who’s The Boss. Danza was part of the golden age of ABC sitcoms, when his “Whos the Boss” joined “Growing Pains”, “Mr Belvedere” and “Full House” as a group of comedies that were hilarious if you were like me, aka 12. Tony’s “will he or wont he” banter with Judith Light, the introduction of the official “hottest girl on television” Allisa Milano, and the worst actor to ever grace American television, the Pintauro kid. All in all a great show. Today is Tony’s birthday and while his talk show was not able to recreate “Danza at his heyday” glory, he remains a part of American pop culture forever…..and would be a great live blog guest if Gregg Doyel is ever not available.
To the news….
(1): The most important news of the day came late, as Larry Vaught spoke with Daniel Orton’s father and confirmed that Orton is now 100 percent committed to coming to Kentucky. In the article, Orton’s father said that after meeting with Calipari in New York this weekend, Daniel became convinced that he could fit in the system entirely and that this was the place for him. His father said that the one constant for Daniel throughout the process was that the fans of Kentucky made him feel welcome and that was only reinforced during his time in Louisville for the Derby Classic. Calipari told Daniel that he would play outside and inside and get to showcase his entire game….music to the Orton’s ears. A great day for Kentucky and a great commitment from a kid that UK fans will love.
(2): The other big news of the day has been the continued wavering of the Xavier Henry clan on their decision. We began the day with an interview from a Kansas site in which Henry’s father said that his sons would not be visiting UK and would make a decision on Wednesday. Then came an interview with Zagsblog in which the father said they were coming to UK this weekend. Tonight, we get an interview from Jeff Drummond at TCP in which CJ Henry (the forgotten Henry) says that he doesnt believe they are coming, but doesnt know and that the entire thing is pretty much Xavier’s decision. So what have we learned today? Maybe nothing. The Henrys either will or will not come to Lexington, but most everyone thinks a decision will come one way or the other by the end of the weekend. I admit that I have absolutely no read on the Henrys and havent even attempted to make contact with a family that is already completely put out with media questions. We will just wait and see what happens. To get the commitment as soon as it comes out, sign up for the KSR Twitter account and make sure to set your text message updates to “on.”
(3): There is a growing sentiment around the Kentucky program that Patrick Patterson is seriously considering leaving Lexington. A couple of folks have expressed to me privately that Calipari believes he will leave and Andy Katz reported a couple of days ago a similar thing. What is missing is any indication whatsoever from the Patterson family. Over the past couple of years, I have gotten to know Patrick and his family well and they are completely silent on the issue now, as well they should be. I have said throughout the past year that I think this will strictly be a business decision for Patrick. If he is projected in the late lottery, then he really has to go as that will be a spot that it would be difficult to rise from. If he is projected late first round, returning may be in his best interest. As we continue to hear the scuttlebutt from UK hinting that Patrick may leave however, it is important to remember that he has said nothing….and that all talk is just speculation until the workouts start to take place.
(4): Finally, Vee Sanford, the PG from Lex Catholic signed with Georgetown today and Coach John Thompson III. Sanford is a kid who had a great Senior year and whose stock rose throughout the year. He was looked at a number of times by Gillispie while at UK, but was never offered in the end. Georgetown was high on him from the get go and stayed interested throughout the year. Sanford has a lot of potential and while he may not be a star right away, I think you will see him contribute down the road. We wish him nothing but the best.
Should be an interesting day….certainly more on the Henrys, we start getting ready for the NFL Draft and the Final Four of the “UK Haters Tournament” is announced. Stay tuned….
I will be on the BOMANI JONES SHOW AT 10:25 AM to talk about JOHN WALL….CLICK HERE TO LISTEN

ReplyThis is from a poster named mosesdupre who has a good source on the Henry brothers and this is what he had to say at Catspause.com:
My feeling is Xavier knows where he wants to play. I know for a fact that CJ only wants to play for Coach Cal. Cj loves Coach Cal. Xavier looks up to CJ a lot. I also know for a fact that the only reason why Xavier hasnt committed to UK was because of Mom. Until last week he had no plans to visit UK. Now all of a sudden he has a visit planned. If you think about KU recruited Xavier for 4 years. He has made an official visit to KU. His mom wants him to go to KU. So why hasnt he committed? I believe the only reason Xavier is going to visit UK is just to make sure thats where he wants to go. Also CJ is going to get no playing time at KU. Thats also a major factor. I know for a fact that Coach Self lied to CJ the first time around and thats one of the reasons CJ and Xavier committed to Memphis. I also know for a fact Coach Cal was working out a way for his mom to see as many games in Lexington as possible. So I think Xavier has made up his mind but just wants to make sure before he pulls the trigger.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Who the heck is “Randolph” Guiliani? Do you mean Rudolph? lol
April 20th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
I am so worn out over all of this…i can only imagine what it is like to be Coach Cal…everyday someone posts stuff totally of base compared to the previous day…Wall i am for sure is coming to UK…
April 20th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
My favorite Italian is Super Mario………or Luigi!
April 20th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
#3. nice work #1…very nice…
April 20th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
Cal to visit CJ in Memphis? http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N376HA
He is in Aimes to visit Barnes, hence the originof the flight.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
If we dont’ get Xavier and Jodie leaves (which I doubt both happen), but if we lost both, I think we would still be fine- liggins and galloway provide the big, long guard demographic, as well as hood and miller. If we had wall to take the ball-handling pressure off those four, we would be extremely solid even without Henry and Jodie.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
I think if Henry comes for visit, we get him. If he doesn’t, then CJ is the reason.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
#1 Interesting. Many Kansas fans will be hysterical if the Henry boys decide to wear Kentucky blue. I would love it, and I’ve come to realize through this whole thing that Kansas = Louisville, very similar fan base I was suprised to find.
Kansas is now one of my favorite teams to hate.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
#4 lmao
April 20th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
“Danza at his HEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYday”
FTFY.
Oh, and thanks for taking the high road and not harassing the Henry family. A frosted-tipped dork would do well to follow your example.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
My favorite Italian is Sophia Loren.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
people! i know the henry bros are a hot topic, but we may be losing PPat! that is a much bigger story in my mind…someone tell me he is coming back, so i can go to bed and dream of UK dominance in the near future.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
I still say we land the Henry brothers.
Think about it: He was down to Memphis & Kansas and committed to Memphis to play with CJ and for Coach Cal. Now, he has had all the time he needs to commit to Kansas if he was dead set on KU. CJ wants to play for Calipari and we already know Xavier picked Cal over Self before Cal left Memphis. All roads are pointing to Lexington!
April 20th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
Kansas ran the score up on us in the ealry 90’s. They have to be hated. It’s a state law!!!
April 20th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
Estelle Getty, or was she Sicilian?
April 20th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
my fav italian is joey from friends…how you dooooin?
April 20th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
You should see some of the Kansas boards hating on the Henry kids and the father especially. Truly pathetic. I now group Kansas with Duke and North Carolina in terms of contempt.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
#18- AMEN! But, don’t forget that “Pearl” just South!
April 20th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
#15 and the very next year we humiliated them in Rupp Arena. I remember watching on TV, and when Kentucky hit the basket that put us up by 20, someone in the Rupp crowd was holding up a sign that said “PAYBACKS ARE HELL”.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
#6 - I like the way you think. Those flight plans are pretty interesting when you analyze them!
April 20th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
I heard a crazy rumor today. This is just a rumor I heard but it
might have some truth to it.
Calipari got word out that he wanted to talk to Lance Stephenson
to talk to him about maybe coming to UK.
While in New York a meeting was set up and the two talked.
The crazy part of this rumor is that Calipari might not even want Lance
nor does he think he has a real shot at Lance.
However, Calipari has heard that KU is telling Lance to hold off because
they don’t know what some of their current players are going to do. KU
is telling Lance he is the one they and don’t listen to all the Henry talk.
Calipari’s real agenda in this meeting with Lance was to put in Lance’s
head that KU was lying to him and that they were actually holding off on
him because their real #1 choice is Henry.
If true, how smart is that of Calipari? That why if we do end up with Henry,
Lance might turn KU down anyways if he feels they were “playing” him.
Do we have the right coach or what? I think it is safe to say we
are in the right hands and the future looks bright. Calipari is not
only recruiting for UK but recruiting against schools that might be
a road block UK winning another title.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Chef Boy-R-Dee is my favorite Italian. He kept me alive all through my college years!
April 20th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Hello - my favorite Italian is JOHN CALIPARI!!
April 20th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
9- How are KU fans Similar to UL fans? I’m not disagreeing, just curious as to why the comparison is made.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
he turned down kansas once before to play for Cal in Memphis..i am all for him doing it again and playing with Wall Cousins, Orton,Meeks,Miller and Hood…maybe PP aswell
April 20th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
1. Hooray for Orton. His outlet passing in the Derby and Jordan games was outstanding! I am amazed this doesn’t get more discussion. He releases the break as well as anyone I can remember (I haven’t watched the super outlet hyped Kevin Love all that much).
And 2.a guy at work figured out the schollie problem: Harrellson seems to want to stay. So, Cal pulls his ride for next year (when he won’t play anyway), and Jorts is only on the team if he wants to pay his way as a walk-on. Otherwise, he tends bar or whatever for a year, and can have his ride back the following year, when their will be more room and likely more time. Better than forcing the kid to transfer if he wants to stay. Everybody wins. Course, hopefully we need one more too.
And Calipari is presently my favorite Italian, aside from Mrs. Franchetti
April 20th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
#7, you don’t know what you’re talking about LOL! Liggins is pretty good, and galloway is ok… but we’re not “solid” with or without Meeks and Henry, trust me - those two future NBA players make more of a difference that you think it does, ha ha ha
April 20th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
Everytime this Henry saga takes yet another turn and start to give me
a headache
I just remember the name John Wall and my headache goes away
April 20th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
SaveUK- You bring great info to this site everyday..props to you man.. Have you heard anything else about other recruits?
April 20th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
oh and my favorite italian is Pitino, guy built a great UK team in the 90s
April 20th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
#30 NO
but if you want recruiting news here you go
I am 100% sure Micheal Gilchrist will be at UK
April 20th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
Well i am Ohio State football fan…this Wall situation reminds me of QB Terrell Pryor…he took his sweet time deciding aswell…it was between Michigan and Ohio State..then Oregan was added.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
#32, well, WWW is very close to Gilchrest. It would be a total shock if he goes anywhere else.
Even though he is the #1 player in his class, I am guessing some fans will feel a little uneasy when he commits..
April 20th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
20) What comes around goes around!!! Right? Hopefully we have a lot of games “going around” next year! I’m so freaking excited. Does everybody realize how cool this shi$ is right now? We are privileged with being part of arguable the most exciting and suspenseful time in our programs history…
Next shirt for Nike should read something like this. “Domination in the Nation Starts in 09-Go Cats”
April 20th, 2009 at 11:40 pm
#34 Why would fans feel unseasy if Gilchrist came to UK?
I would feel uneasy if he didn’t, considering I think he is a done deal
April 20th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
I think Patrick and Jodie both come back. I think they get “it” here, and they must be just as excited as all of us over what is on the horizon. Neither is desperate for money (I think), both will eventually get paid, but they must know that they have a chance to wash away some unpleasant aspects of their careers, and have a Hell of a time doing it. I don’t think it is just “business” for either of them. That said, of course I wouldn’t blame them if they go. I just think they won’t. Too good an opportunity here.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
#37 I still stand by what I said about a week ago when I said that
UK fans should start preparing for Patterson not returning.
A week later Matt Jones is hearing the samething.
So all I am saying is that UK fans should really start preparing just
in case Patterson doesn’t return.
I know Calipari already has - Cousins and Orton
April 20th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
All the idiots on CatsPause who claim to have sources and really dont have made it impossible for us who actually know the players to confirm and deny things straight from their mouths, but I am going to go ahead and confirm STRAIGHT FROM PATTERSONS MOUTH this past Saturday night that hs is (and I quote) “100% sure he is coming back next year.” If you dont believe it, I dont give a damn. All these reporters can speculate all they want. Its much easier to just ask them yourselves.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
secratariot…why was our post deleted??
April 20th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
Couldn’t tell ya’. Maybe considered advertising? If so, sorry admins!
April 20th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
13. Nobody wants to see Patterson leave, but his leaving would be easier to handle than Meeks leaving. We’ll have Orton and Cousins to handle the 4 and 5, if Jody leaves we have ZERO pure shooters on this team. My favorite Italian? Easy, Tony Soprano.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
Patrick..Don’t jump ship now brotha
April 20th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
39-I’ve just heard a LOT of people asking where they could get them. Thought I’d try to help out.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
#41 I agree. I would expect, if we added Wall, for a team with Wall
Meeks, Miller, Cousins, Orton, Pilgrim, Hood, Liggins, and Galloway to
be a pretty good team with a chance to be great by tournament time.
I would feel that way with a team that had Wall, Hood, Miller, Orton, Cousins, Pilgrim,
Liggins, Galloway.
Meeks is the glue that holds this whole thing together
April 20th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
I meant to say I * wouldn’t feel that way if we didn’t have Meeks
April 20th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
41 i agree we need to keep meeks. Unless we have xavier coming in, but i’d rather just keep him and have them both. Patterson sadly could be replaced with this recruiting class.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:01 am
We were an Elite PG and Miller being a year older from being a good team
this last season.
Add Wall and we have our Elite PG
Miller will be a year older
A style that is better for this team
and even without Patterson I would still fully expect for Cousins, Orton, Pilgrim, and Stevenson.
next season to be better than Patterson and Stevenson this season
April 21st, 2009 at 12:02 am
Save … I’ll be fine with him going. I’ll enjoy watching him in the NBA. And I’m not worried about the impact on the team (although I’m not an idiot, it will hurt). But they will still have a chance to be very good. I just think he waits. I think that if it is about business, it is some unfinished business.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:07 am
#48 next season success or lack of will all be determined if Wall
comes to UK or not.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:08 am
Have a question. To get the twitter to text your cellphone you text the password to 40404 then text on to 40404, is this right. Can’t get it to work. Thanks for any help.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:09 am
In word on Bledsoe (SP)
April 21st, 2009 at 12:09 am
everyone keeps talking about if wall doesn’t come, well if he doesn’t and bledsoe comes i still see us being fine.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:12 am
#52 you could be right. Bledsoe has that pototential but the fact
is you really don’t know how a kid will pan out until they step a foot
on campus.
However, I am 100% sure Wall will pan out. My opinion would be that
Bledsoe would pan out right away as well but he isn’t a sure thing.
Wall is! Wall will be the best PG in college next year. He is that good
April 21st, 2009 at 12:13 am
Save … he does seem to be a special player.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:14 am
Does anyone know if it is true that Cal went to talk to CJ and Henry tonight at thier home.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:15 am
#54 He is unreal. He is the fastest PG in the country right now, including
NBA players. He is an unbelievable finsher in the paint, excellent court
vision, and an amazing passer
April 21st, 2009 at 12:16 am
47- don’t forget a competent coach who was willing to make adjustments.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:16 am
55- Where’d you hear that?
April 21st, 2009 at 12:16 am
#55 1st) It is CJ and Xavier not CJ and Henry, LOL kiddin I know
what you mean.
Why would Xavier be in Memphis?
April 21st, 2009 at 12:18 am
59- Better ribs than in Kansas?
April 21st, 2009 at 12:19 am
I haven’t heard that he is in Memphis but if he is I have a feeling
why and it wouldn’t be to talk to CJ. However, I bet while there he
would call CJ up.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:19 am
WTF is going on. I jump on here and we are up to 60 posts and there is no nerd fight or anyone saying what a low life SOB SaveUK is–what is BBN coming to?
Nerd Fight in 3-2-1.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:21 am
61- After a couple of weeks, I imagine he needs a lil “sumfin, sumfin.” And if we’ve learned anything from little Ricky, it’s have your fun at home!
April 21st, 2009 at 12:25 am
#63 well that isn’t what I was talking about
April 21st, 2009 at 12:26 am
64- I’m just sayin…
April 21st, 2009 at 12:27 am
SaveUK–What are you talking about? Why would your source say that Cal is in Memphis helping Josh Pastner recruit kids? You are so full of crap and don’t know what you are talking about. By the way, Yo Momma.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:28 am
66- That’s the spirit! But it’s still a bit early for a nerd fight still.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:29 am
SaveUK- all I know was that Catpauses said that Cal was on his way to Visit CJ and Xavier tonight.
The person on the Memphis message boards said the same thing.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:31 am
#66 He sure isn’t helping Pastner, if anything he is making things
harder on Pastner. If he is there he is probably there to see Joe
Jackson
April 21st, 2009 at 12:32 am
SauveUK well he might of went home to visit his Family LOL.
they do still lives in memphis.
BRW Savue someone at catpauses track his airplane and it was on it way to memphis.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:33 am
I knew I could drag it out of you. What are the chances that someone comes on, reads only my post at #66 and then cusses you because they don’t follow the site.
By the way, Where was the “Reading 101–How to “Sypher” comments on the board” post from Matt?
April 21st, 2009 at 12:33 am
#68 you could be right, I don’t know I am just giving my opinion.
I would think if he is in Memphis tonight, which I don’t know if he is,
it would be to see Joe Jackson
April 21st, 2009 at 12:33 am
I wonder if the Henry’s read these blogs b/c if they do everyone on the KU sites is hating on them saying they wanted Lance the whole time anyway. So let me just say on behalf of the BBN CJ and X: We want you! We need you! We love you! And I want to be with you…..er, i mean…. just come to Kentucky please!!!!
April 21st, 2009 at 12:34 am
69- I still say he’s there for the nookie.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:34 am
71. Are you talking about me if so that is rude.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:35 am
73- When this is all said and done, maybe you guys can get an apartment together
April 21st, 2009 at 12:35 am
Couldnt he going home to say hello to the family and the animals LOL.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:36 am
Joe Jackson is getting an award tonight. So maybe that is why he is there
April 21st, 2009 at 12:36 am
No–you were not the one that blew everything out of the water last night. It started long before you got on.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:37 am
79- Slow night for haters tonight…kinda boring.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:38 am
I thought we al love SaveUK:)
April 21st, 2009 at 12:38 am
81- We love him, but we aren’t “in love” with him
April 21st, 2009 at 12:39 am
The decision is up to CJ, not Xavier. Only one of them will be stuck in college for three more years. The other can show of his skills for a few months then declare for the NBA.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:43 am
I wish Xavier would make up his mind already…tired of the waiting game.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:45 am
He problay going to Kansas he is problay just like jerking everyone around.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:46 am
#83–The decision is not up to CJ–the decision is up to the NCAA. Unless I missed something, he has been released to go elsewhere but not cleared to play next year, right? If they say he sits out, he may stay at Memphis.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:48 am
#83 I have to highly disagree
CJ already knows where he wants to go. It is Xavier that is
pulling the strings.
Xavier doesn’t know what he wants to do but CJ wants to play for Caliapri. Hence the reason
he went to Memphis in the first place. I am almost certain this is
what is causing the delay.
If it was all up to CJ they be committed to UK
April 21st, 2009 at 12:52 am
X is getting pressure from his mother to go to KU but he knows
CJ wants to go to UK. He is torn
CJ knows the only reason KU wants him is to get Xavier. If CJ called
Cal and said he wanted to come to UK and walk-on but X is going to KU
Cal would take CJ at UK.
Don’t forget that CJ was highly recruited out of HS
April 21st, 2009 at 12:52 am
^^^^that is my theory aka opinion
April 21st, 2009 at 12:53 am
I have a question how come no one ever speaks of Nolan Dennis anymore?
April 21st, 2009 at 12:53 am
85, He probly going to Kentucky he is probly just like jerking everyone around.
thats what you mean.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:55 am
In fact I’ll go ahead and tell my prediction (which is just my theory)
CJ is transfering to UK regradless of Xavier does but they are waiting
to see what X wants to do bc they both would like to announce together.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:55 am
#91 NO, that is what Wall is doing
LOL
April 21st, 2009 at 12:56 am
92 Will he have to sit out yet another year?
April 21st, 2009 at 12:56 am
http://www.zagsblog.com/2009/04/20/henrys-to-visit-kentucky-this-weeke nd/#more-15252
Here is an article from today announcing they are coming to visit UK. I had not read it until now but it mentioned the very thing I said at #86.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:57 am
#90 Nolan and Hood are the same type of player but Hood is better.
The person who was tracking Calipari’s plane into Memphis, where did
the plane take off from headed to Memphis?
April 21st, 2009 at 12:57 am
#94–That is the BIG question.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:58 am
95 Just answered my question.
April 21st, 2009 at 12:58 am
#94 Nobody knows
As far as I know the NCAA hasn’t ruled on it yet
April 21st, 2009 at 12:58 am
Does anyone else think Wall may be waiting to see what X does?
April 21st, 2009 at 1:00 am
#95 After that article Jeff Drummond of the Courier Journal called
CJ and CJ said that was accurate
April 21st, 2009 at 1:01 am
LOL…i already know Wall is coming to Kentucky…been saying it since Godfather Cal came to UK!!
April 21st, 2009 at 1:01 am
#100 No, considering Wall has already made a decision
IMO
let me say again, IMO
IMO, IMO, IMO, IMO
that means In My Opinion
just so I don’t confuse anyone
April 21st, 2009 at 1:02 am

April 21st, 2009 at 1:22 am
You guys would not better than me. I was trying to research the site for the kid that blasted the Cats on his facebook or myspace after everyone thought that UK was high on his list. If I am not mistaken it was either Terrence Boyd or Harrison Barnes but can’t remember because that was a forgotten perioed for the past two years. Can anyone remember (or misremember) and what was said? It was something along the same lines as when B. Maze made the “car” reference.

April 21st, 2009 at 2:07 am
If I am not mistaken, it is something like May 20th. There is a long way to go. The draft isn’t until June so PP had better make up his mind or he may “hafta” roll the dice.
April 21st, 2009 at 2:07 am
Somehow I get the feeling that Wall may wait until the last possible moment to make an announcement. I don’t know that I’ll be able to survive another month of this.
April 21st, 2009 at 2:11 am
I have a question? What are the chances that Xavier and CJ wanted to announce they were coming but Cal said, “No, come and visit first. This will allow you to see everything and learn more about the schools history. Also, it will allow me to make space for you.”
If Xavier commits, someone knows they are leaving and it would be nice to have that person know a few days before any new kids are brought in.
I am not saying Xavier and CJ are coming, only that we all know someone is coming. It may be that PP announces he is leaving before any new kids are brought on. I don’t have a clue, just thinking out loud.
April 21st, 2009 at 2:16 am
155- I’ve wondered that about the Henrys and Wall. Even if they want to announce, it might be in UK/Cal’s best interest for them to hold off in order to:
-free up scholarships/sort out existing players
-stay in the headlines/create publicity
-screw with other recruiters decisions, thinking they still have a shot at these kids
-allow them to continue talking to 2010 recruits without risking any violations
I’m sure there are other reasons as well, but these were the first ones off the top of my head. I also think that Cal is MUCH more savvy than Self or Williams in using these scenarios to his advantage. Just a thought…
April 21st, 2009 at 2:30 am
Are thier any updates on Cal Visit with Bledso firday.
April 21st, 2009 at 2:38 am
Haven’t seen any. Usually there are no reports when a coach visits a player. Most reports come once a player visits the school. Add to the fact that Bledsoe would not want anything to get out as far as a “leader” for his choices because if Wall were to commit, then he would have to look elsewhere. That very thing is happening between Florida and Kentucky right now.
April 21st, 2009 at 4:06 am

April 21st, 2009 at 4:32 am

April 21st, 2009 at 4:38 am
Why is no one not talking about the other stops by Cal’s plane today… http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N376HA
it went from Lex to KBHM (Birmingham) to see Bledsoe?!?!
Then it went to Teterboro NJ which is a small plane airport next to New York city… so was he going to see Lance Stevenson?
Then you he went to Ames, IA… to see Harrison Barnes…
April 21st, 2009 at 4:53 am
Recruiting is never over…He’s probably trying to find out if any of these kids have interest in UK, now that he’s the coach..
April 21st, 2009 at 5:26 am
He wants to make sure to cover A to Z just in case one doesn’t come he has the next one lined up. Don cal is now the head of the five family’s (Kentucky, Duke, UNC, Kansas and UCLA)
April 21st, 2009 at 5:30 am
I would be surprised to see Stevenson in a uk uniform scouts take on him is forces shots and is easily frustrated also he doesn’t play “team” ball. I think cal is trying to keep him away from Kansas more than anything
April 21st, 2009 at 5:44 am
163. I agree…We need to understand some of these kids have not taken or passed their SAT test…They may not be able to play next year…
164. While I agree Stevenson can be a selfish player, his talent is unmistakable.. Cal will have the horses to sit him if he doesn’t play team ball.. Let’s face it all these stars have been pampered…If he doesn’t come around he gone and you recruit over him.. Coaches job is to figure out if he can fit, and play team ball..
April 21st, 2009 at 6:03 am
i look at it like this cal never made a big push for Stevenson while at Memphis and really hasn’t since getting to uk. I think that answers the question of does cal think he can control him. Stevenson game fits the system he has the size and most of all he has the talent (top ten recruit). So why no love from cal until now ?????
April 21st, 2009 at 6:06 am
Not even a mention of Rondos triple double in Game 2????
April 21st, 2009 at 6:09 am
i bet cal is a really good chess player because he is always thinking two steps ahead man can recruit like no other
April 21st, 2009 at 6:13 am
Kentuckyjoe I’m sure your right about this kid…I trust Cal has checked with people surrounding this player..He doesn’t need someone dragging the team down as the year goes on…My guess is the kid goes to St. John’s and leaves after a year…Kansas doesn’t want him either, to big a of problem.
April 21st, 2009 at 6:17 am
It’s nice having NBA players going off that are associated with UK or Cal…..more ammo for the CaTS
April 21st, 2009 at 6:28 am
170. I second that as long as it’s only 1 or 2 players a year. Great teams still need 3 and 4 year players. We need players willling to sacrafice all the glory for the team..If you remember Rick always had both..
April 21st, 2009 at 6:28 am
170 I agree / funny how all these people are jumping on the “SEC is weak” look at all the SEC players playing in the NBA playoffs that have only been in the league two or three years. B. Bass/Rondo/Baby Davis/Noah/T Thomas/Horford/ and those are just a few I’m sure I’m missing some people. But these guys are contributing.
April 21st, 2009 at 6:32 am
that was one thing rick could do was sell those guys on putting there egos aside in order to win a title. I just hope cal can do the same i’d love to see a team like 96′
April 21st, 2009 at 7:05 am
The SEC was more evenly balanced this year. Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, LSU were young. Which creates a theory the league is down. LSU was the only team with seasoned guards. They are the lifeblood of a team. We had more turnovers than assists this year, over 600 for the season. Cal will not stand for that, these kids will learn to handle the ball or else.
173. You’re right look at Billy D’s 2 championship teams or this years NC team. Those kids put aside their dreams for a National title. Many of them could have gone to the Pro’s but their sites were set on winning a title. That is the difference in winners and losers.

[...] Kentucky Sports Radio has the same feeling about Patterson. [...]
April 21st, 2009 at 7:40 am
I can see Patrick going if he is a lottery pick. The problem with anything lower, is you may become a bench player for a year. The next year the team may go with a pick again at your postition.
He has never reached his potential here. He’s been forced to play under the backet for 2 years. In Cal’s system he would be asked to improve ball skills and outside shooting.
Futher he has never played in a NCAA game. I think he had higher asperations. Someone tell me can a player who is deemed to be a first round pick still take out insurance policy in case of injury. Whatever he chooses I wish him the best!!!! He’s a SUPER KID.
April 21st, 2009 at 7:51 am
The SEC was clearly down this year BECAUSE so many guys have jumped to the NBA the last few years.
April 21st, 2009 at 7:54 am
If not in the lottery, Patterson should return.
April 21st, 2009 at 8:16 am
177 your right. I wonder how many of these kids wished they had stayed in school.
178 I agree.. That’s just a decision him and his family will have to make.
It’s suppose to be a such special day in your life. I’m not a ND fan but I will never forget how bad I felt for Brady Quinn the day of the Draft..The TV shots of him just waiting to be chosen that day. He was projected to be a hight first round pick. I doubt that kid will ever forget that day..
April 21st, 2009 at 8:21 am
178. I agree, but even he (Patterson) has recently quoted instances in which a player waits around to win a title and drastically hurts his draft stock. I hope Patterson comes back as much as anyone, just nobody should be surprised or mad if he doesn’t.
Also, why is everyone still so sure that Wall is coming? Forgive me for being skeptical, but I won’t be sold til it is official.
April 21st, 2009 at 8:31 am
Birdman I won’t be mad. He has to think of his future. His decision is just that and I’ll be happy for him if that is his choice. Like you I would like to see him back.
On Wall everyone is hoping he will sign with the Cat’s… Like you I’ll just wait until the ink is dried.
April 21st, 2009 at 8:34 am
All fan bases have their good and bad apples, but I have to admit that in my experience, KU fans have a much lower asshole quotient than Duke or Florida fans. As a group, I respect them.
April 21st, 2009 at 8:41 am
PP still has a lot of work to do to prepare for the NBA. If you recall, he missed a TON of shots within 10′ of the goal the 2d half of the season.
April 21st, 2009 at 8:44 am
3 months ago, I would have thought that Jodie would have been the one most prepared for the Pros. I hope Pat makes the right decision and whatever it is, I hope him the best. i just hope he don’t get stuck with some clunker team or have to ride the bench. He’s a great young man.
April 21st, 2009 at 8:44 am
Wasn’t it Elton John that sang that song, “Hold Me Closer Tony Danza?”
April 21st, 2009 at 8:47 am
183- Agreed
April 21st, 2009 at 8:50 am
I know if he is projected high enough,he almost has to go, but I could only imagine what a year under Cal would do for him. Pat had a ton of shots blocked this season, and when he gets to the next level, that will only be magnified. One of the first things that Cal had the team focus on in the limited practice time he’s had, was going to the rim and taking the ball high off the glass. He prepares his players to compete against the most athletic competition possible. That’s why his players have so much sucess in the NBA.

This article says the Henry Bros. are down to UK & Memphis, what happened to KU???
April 21st, 2009 at 8:54 am
I believe Patterson’s decision will be determined alot on Wall and Henry’s decision. I feel if they come he will feel they can win a NC and will come back. If they do not come he will probably stay in the draft and go pro since the chances of a deep tourney run will be a little less unlikely.
April 21st, 2009 at 8:54 am
I think it’s just a typo though…
April 21st, 2009 at 9:04 am
191. Thinking the same way. We didn’t have anyone who could deliver the pass to him last year. Unfortunately for him fewer shots. With Wall and this system should free him up. Also will help him with other parts of his game that have not been developed. Go Cats!!!
April 21st, 2009 at 9:06 am
[...] Kentucky Sports Radio has the same feeling about Patterson. [...]
April 21st, 2009 at 9:11 am
194- Dude, everything on there is just copied from John Clay’s SIDELINES blog…
April 21st, 2009 at 9:13 am
190. I think the issue for Kansas with CJ is he doesn’t trust Self to give him any playing time during his future there. I feel, that CJ trust coach Cal to give him a better chance at seeing the floor while coach Cal get’s someone whose been in his system for both practice & game purposes.
So, that leaves them with either Memphis and/or UK which leads me to believe that they’ll be UK in the end!!!
Flag City
April 21st, 2009 at 9:16 am
With Cousins and Orton — and Pilgrim — we are in good shape EVEN IF Patterson goes … never thought I’d say that a month ago. Let’s be thankful that Jodie is the one more likely to come back, since he is the scoring threat this team greatly needs. No doubt Patterson’s leadership and warrior-like work ethic will be sorely missed, but I’m confident we have enough talent in the 3-man replacement to replace him.

When are they going to release some facts on Ricky P? I want to see that interview that Fox wont release!
April 21st, 2009 at 9:40 am
Here is a reasoned speculation about Ricky P - Had affair with K.Sypher - offered her money to get rid of problem - she accepted money and signed confidentiality agreement concerning same - she marries Tim S. - all is good - the Syphers file for divorce - proceedings get chippy - I’m going to testify about your friend Rick if you keep it up - I want more money in this divorce - Rick, she’s going to tell thru divorce proceedings - can’t let that happen - she’s extorting US.
Emphasis is on the “speculation” but seems reasonable give the trickle of facts that Matt has elected to share with us.
April 21st, 2009 at 9:48 am
The deal with the NBA draft isn’t how good you are, it’s good will you be. Earl Clark is probably going to be a lottery pick ,a nd we all know he is a simpleton who is soft. Patterson has work to do because he is undersized as an NBA 4, and he has not played the 4 even at the college level. He struggles with bigger guys, and will only be around bigger guys at the next level. With that said, his ceiling is only so high, and he needs to go when his best draft options are there. This is probably the year for that unfortunately. Tyler Hansborough is the same way. He is a tweener, and you don’t give lottery $ to that guy.
April 21st, 2009 at 9:55 am
Pitino is having an affair with Tim Sypher. That is why Tim is backing Pitino, and saying that she is making defamatory remarks about BOTH of them. She had a threesome with both of them, and now she’s holdin it over thier heads. If it was just Pitino and Karen, big deal…we all knew Pitino slept around, big deal!
April 21st, 2009 at 9:56 am
One mock NBA Draft had Jared Carter going late in the 2nd round therefore Kige Ramsey has hope after all:)

I’m reading where KU only has one available Scholarship. This article posted earlier in this thread http://www.kansan.com/stories/2009/apr/21/henry_brothers/?sports says that even if Stephenson chose KU after a Henry commit, they couldn’t play together because Henry would be taking the last Scholarship.
I think KU is more locked in than UK with the schollie situation, and this is due to Collins and Aldridge returning. I really think Xavier wants to play with Wall, and Kansas isn’t an option for that, whereas UK is. If Patterson stays in the draft and Williams transfers, Uk has two scholarships open.

I hate to make this comparison, but wasn’t Randolph Morris supposed to be a guarentee first round pick? Then he didn’t get drafted. In my opinion, there is hope for Pat to come back until he signs with an agent. I think Pat needs one more year under Cal to really showcase his abilities as more than a low post player. I think one more year under Cal will make him a top 10 pick next year. Then it makes more sense.
