The Prom Strikes Again

by @ 1:48 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

prom

Did you think the Xavier Henry and John Wall saga couldnt get any longer or stranger? Think again. Jeff Drummond of TCP reports today that another hitch may have come into play that could keep Xavier Henry from visiting this weekend. What is that hitch? Well it seems that Friday night is Xavier’s prom and he wants to attend. And who can blame him? Prom night is a magical night, when you take your sweetest gal out in a big limousine, eat at the best restaurant in town (if you are Middlesboro, that would of course be the J. Milton’s Steakhouse) and then go dance the night away to the latest music like “Whoomp There It Is.” Prom night is a night you never forget, especially if you are lucky enough to get invited to Stephanie Mullins’ house for the afterparty.

Xavier wants to have just such a night…and that may keep him from coming to Lexington. Whether that will have any impact on his final decision remains to be seen, but for now one thing is clear….his decision to stay true to his prom keeps one young lady that goes to Putnam City High School from spending the evening in tears….and that benefits us all.

Now wait a minute, I just posted first a minute ago,..,

  2. SlickRick48 Says:

Is it better for her to spend the evening in tears or the following morning?

  3. Big Blue Cali-Zone Says:

You have got to be kidding. Will this never end. I think Mr Henry may be taking a few pages from “The John Wall Guide To Recruitment Hype”

  4. jayscreed80 Says:

Whether he comes or not, it has been one long and drug out announcement from him and wall.

  5. Cman Says:

I don’t care if he shows up at all to be blunt. If he wants to be part of something great, fine but if he dosen’t … I just don’t see any real problem!

  6. IcemanG2 Says:

    Question:

How is this JUST NOW coming out? Like they didn’t know when prom was until today. Laughable.

  7. BigBopper Says:

    Henry brothers to Kansas
    Stephenson to Maryland
    Wall to Duke

UK left standing without a date to the prom……

Hope I am wrong, but this is how I see it.

Even so, I see UK as a top ten team with or without them.

  8. wildcat_99 Says:

Alright this has been drug out long enough and is becoming ridiculous…..I mean seriously it’s time for a decision! He keeps putting it off and it has become more obvious that all this attention is what they are after. But lets pull the funds together rent out Rupp friday night and they can hold the freakin prom there. That may get us a decision!!!!

  9. Shaffer42 Says:

I agree 6…maybe that’s why he was hesitant when everyone was saying he was coming this weekend…No ass, quite as good as Senior Prom ass!

  10. TheBigBooyah Says:

Kind of surprising it took this long for UK fans to turn on the kid.

  11. man-bear-pig Says:

Speaking of prom night… I hope we have a plan B… if both of these guys fall through? I hope Cal is still texting Bledsoe and Dennis.

  12. ukbbfan Says:

ha! Beisner got the boot on his post about this same thing. it sucked anyway. nothing like a Matt Jones post.

  13. RICKYP-ismy-DADDY Says:

6- It’s been “rumored” for months, even when BCG was here, but now it’s OFFICIAL!!!

  14. IcemanG2 Says:

11 - Bledsoe is unlikely to qualify. Even Cincy believes it is a longshot, what’s that tell you?

Frosty says Dennis won’t get an offer from Calipari, because Hood is the exact same player, only a little better.

  15. IcemanG2 Says:

    13 - typical d-bag.

  16. dcsports Says:

can’t blame the kid for wanting to go to his prom…..I’m sending his date some UK panties to wear….

  17. nybrasky Says:

To those who say this is becoming ridiculous or are getting pissed. How is this becoming ridiculous? The KID is making the biggest decision of his life. He should take all the time he needs to come to a decision. Get over yourselves people. It’s not his fault your life is revolving around his decision at this point because you have nothing better going on.

  18. Wookin Pa Nub Says:

I dont see it as a big deal at all. Let him drag it out if he wants to. Basketball season doesn’t start for a long time, so everyone just chill out. I’m glad we arent making him miss his prom.

  19. Cawood2Cal Says:

Coach Cal says it’s important to remember to enjoy the process. So just listen a bit to Coach and enjoy this particular process. You didn’t have the Henrys considering UK a while ago. This is a bonus and shouldn’t cause an uproar - unless you simply enjoy having an uproar. I like chillin’ myself.

  20. RICKYP-ismy-DADDY Says:

    15- You’re laughable!

  21. SlickRick48 Says:

    11. I hope she has plan-B. Zing!!

  22. wildcat_99 Says:

17)Exactly it’s the biggest decision of his life so how is prom effecting his decision. We don’t need to get over ourselves and our lives don’t revolve around his decision but we love everything that has to do with UK basketball. Maybe you need to be doing something else besides being on a site dedicated to the biggest UK fans out there and get on with your life.

  23. Pabenny Says:

What is the latest on Dennis, I hadn’t heard his name in a while?

  24. King Nate Says:

The kid 4th from the right is damn cool!!!

  25. Big Blue Cali-Zone Says:

Well one thing that everyone should learn from this, believe half of what you see and none of what you hear. Any reports coming out going forward should not be taken at face value. The only important words to be uttered hence forth will be when the actual announcment is made. Other than that, I won’t believe anything I hear.

  26. RICKYP-ismy-DADDY Says:

19- Agreed, Orton, Hood and Valarino were coming when BCG was here. Cal has kept Orton and Hood, got rid of GJ and even added Top 5 recruit Cousins, PLUS half the team isn’t leaving now becuase BCG is gone. So no matter what happens with Wall & Henry, we’re still WAY better off now with Cal!!!

  27. BigCatDaddy4263 Says:

Let the kid enjoy his senior prom and have fun with his friends that he will probably never hang out again with.

Then come to Lexington and spend a day or two with some wild hot fillies and let them take his mind off of his prom and everything else that is KU

  28. bige Says:

I don’t think he is big on UK anyway. It’s tough to go against your mom’s wishes.

  29. claw Says:

“spend time with some wild hot fillies?” that is illegal in every state except Arkansas.

  30. bige Says:

No room for Dennis on next year’s team. We might have 4 guys next year that are better at his position.

  31. dcsports Says:

    blame it on the vodka
    blame it on the henny…

  32. BJ Says:

Good thing it isn’t Harrison Barnes going to the prom, or else there would be another “off-the-court” issue that he wouldn’t have to worry about.

  33. Big Blue Cali-Zone Says:

The worst thing about this type deal is, that although I have great trust in our coach to fill the holes, this puts him and the recruiting process in limbo waiting until the dirty dead end on these kids. It’s their right, I understand this, but without knowing what at least one of your top targets is going to do until the last minute, can create a situation where you could not only get the preverbial rug pulled from underneath you, but the whole damn floor as well. I’m counting on Wall.

  34. bige Says:

Bledsoe probably won’t qualify. Cousins has not qualified yet.
    Must be a ‘Bama thing.

  35. Cawood2Cal Says:

    26. Right….really the only thing that has bothered me so far is cutting ties with GJ. I just liked him and he will be very good - prob. not great. Wall of Bledsoe gets me past it though.

  36. nybrasky Says:

22 - So the kid shouldn’t be with his friends and classmates for Prom (a right of passage of sorts) because you want his decision to be over with? I’ll leave it to Cal. If he wants to press him and say, “it’s this weekend or never” that’s his call, not ours. Just sit back and let things work out as they will.

  37. BJ Says:

In the picture, they put the minority in the back. But at least he is probably going to college for free, unlike the other chumps.

  38. KENNYPOWERS Says:

    32) Are u sure u mean Harrison Barnes?

  39. IcemanG2 Says:

    32 - don’t you mean Lance Stephenson?

  40. BigBopper Says:

Let’s move on shall we? The dram queens have had there day and now it’s time for UK fans and Coach Cal to get serious about the upcoming season. Find some guys that really want to be here like Cousins and let’s roll to the final four in 09-10!

  41. BJ Says:

    Correction: Lance Stephenson

  42. kenan14 Says:

That last line may have been one of the least mature comments I have read in a long time. It’s comments like that that make me realize the mentality behind this site. Don’t ever change and keep up the good work.

  43. kenan14 Says:

42 - I’m referring to the last line in the post, not 41…sorry ’bout that.

  44. veeper Says:

OK Matt, give attribution where attribution is due. I reported - via zagsblog - over an hour ago about the prom — (Jeff Drummond my arse!)

    # veeper Says:

Xavier has his prom this Friday night, so he wouldn’t be able to get to Kentucky until Saturday, according to Jayhawkslant.com. Meantime, Memphis is putting the fullcourt press on C.J., telling him he can be the team’s floor general next year, but Carl told the kid to come home after the school year and cut ties with Memphis…Stay tuned.

Listen Matt, I don’t get paid Walter Cronkite wages for nothing around here! I demand attribution!! (LOL - maybe not)

  45. Big Blue Cali-Zone Says:

Here’s the thing. Anybody that thinks that these kids have yet to make up their minds is crazy. All the cards have been on the table for a while. Cal is Cal, he’ll just be running a bigger and better program. Our school and program speak for themselves. These kids have great upside and talent, and no matter what anyone says, we are in need of someone to run the offense. Liggins and Galloway are not the answer. I just keep telling myself that Coach Cal has this thing wrapped up. He may not know the final answer to these kids, but he surely has a solid feel for them.

  46. wildcat_99 Says:

    37) thats the dumbest post yet…Congrats

  47. dcsports Says:

blame it on the al al-al-al the alcohol….

  48. dcsports Says:

okay so let’s be serious for a minute….you gotta bone one of the girls in this pic…I mean, you have to take one on a date…which one do you pick?

  49. Mr.knowitall Says:

been up at zags bloch for awhile now

  50. Big Blue Cali-Zone Says:

So #44 you are saying that he IS coming but not until Saturday?

  51. veeper Says:

Matt - attribution - or I am going to report you and that flunky Drummond to the NACSEB. (National Association of College Sports Electronic Bloggers)

  52. dcsports Says:

going from Right to Left, I think contestant #2 was voted most likely to be in a porn. It’s really hard to pick a winner here because I can’t figure out if the girls in the back are good from far but from good…but I’ll take the 2nd chick from the end, in the pink…two words..tan lines.

  53. bige Says:

Can we get the railroad guy to fly his school’s prom here and they can have it in Rupp?
Maybe we can fly him and his prom date here for dinner and fly them back.

  54. BJ Says:

    46. Thanks.

  55. smiles Says:

It’s a big deal for us because we want answers now. The world does indeed revolve around us and the sooner these players realize this the happier we will all be. Henry is down to two schools. How hard can it be to decide? It should be easier than selecting from 8 extra value meals on a McDonalds menu. What’s wrong with these players. It is our future they are playing with!

  56. jman3715 Says:

I don’t blame these kids. Enjoy the spotlight. Live it up and take your time.

  57. nessa5555 Says:

According to Rumors Bledso wont quailty because he have bad grades and he would have to get a high score on the ACT.

  58. BLAINE-MAN Says:

At this point I would like to Punch this kid in the face. Quit being a pre madonna and pick your friggen school, get it over with!

  59. drmarc Says:

Forget Prom Mr. Henry, you will get all the poon you could ever want when you sign with UK…..

  60. cat1 Says:

From what i understand Xavier doesnt really care what lexington and the campus look like. Its a short one year vaction to kentucky and to the pros. So if it were me i would look at the pictures on the web of campus and take Cals and the players word for it. I will try to find this quote he made about choosing between UK and KU.

just so you know matt…j miltons sucks….you have to go to the pine mountain lodge if you have any class

  63. dcsports Says:

poon is now my favorite word

  64. 7goNon8 Says:

i can’t blame henry….take hot chic to prom and give her “a bad case of the round whole”

  65. 7goNon8 Says:

    *hole

  66. uk_we_are_a_football_school Says:

Xavier…come to UK and EVERY NIGHT can be prom night!

  67. calucky Says:

how long must this go on, shades of Jai Lucas. Seems this is getting to be the norm. Limelight time.
Needs to be a set date for commitals.
There will come a day when they wont wait till the last minute to be a Wildcat.

  68. nessa5555 Says:

Post: #1X and Memphis heating up

Dang it, these stupid contract meetings have caused someone to break this alreaady.

O.k. looks like C.J. and the Henry’s are getting word that the NCAA is not going to grant C.J.’s appeal. Nothing is definite, but that’s just what’s going around the coaches. For the record I said from the beginning I didn’t think his appeal would be granted, but regardless.
So C.J. has one of three options:
    a) He could go ahead and transfer to Kansas and be with X next year, just not playing. By NCAA rules he could practice, but not travel. This appears to be the rub as X wants C.J. with him.
    b) C.J. could stay at Memphis and X would then come to Memphis and play here for 1 season. We all know this.
    c) C.J. could decide to leave school and go back to playing baseball. He could then live with X in the fall at Kansas or Kentucky.

Now the word is that X thinks that Memphis is a good school for C.J. and he’s being assured by certian “people” that going to Memphis should not affect his draft status. Additionally, and I’m not saying its absolutley true, but I’m just saying, that a certain coach may have guaranteed that C.J. would have a spot on the team after X leaves. Another interesting thing is that the Henry’s had already put money down on a house in Memphis, so there was going to be a financial hit.
Anyway, this is all I have time for now.

Looks like X-n-brother may be staying

Some news I am hearing out of Lexington is that the Henry brothers are going to stay in Memphis and run with the Tigers. X is really interested in playing with his brother and believes even with Cal leaving UM will still have a completive team next year and that he could really stand out in Coach Pastnors offense and that his brother will have a better opportunity to see the floor in Memphis then UK next year with the possibility of Wall coming in and Liggins on the bench. Good luck this would put UM back in pre-season top 25.

The situation with X and CJ, as I hear it, is as follows:
    1. X really wants to play with CJ (we all know this) and his decision on where to go is going to be (mostly) based on where he and CJ can play next year together;
    2. CJ likes Memphis and would like to stay;
    3. X likes Memphis and Cal and is torn between both;
    4. CJ (and X to some degree) is worried about transferring to KY and then waiting to see if he gets waiver;
    5. Given above, X and Cj are/were leaning towards staying at Memphis and may make some annoucement soon BUT
    6. Cal knows the possibility of #5 and is working HARD on X (and CJ) to go to KY. Cal thinks if he just can get X (and CJ) to visit KY, he will get them to come.

  69. Down the home stretch: Handicapping UK’s chances with John Wall and Xavier Henry Says:

[...] the planned visit for this weekend. It seems to me that the visit will not happen (partially due to Xavier’s senior prom on Saturday), but that does not preclude Xavier and CJ from choosing [...]
