I am amazed more has not been written about this, but as of yet it has not. Everywhere I have gone today in Louisville, the rumor mill is buzzing about the future of Rick Pitino and Louisville. There is talk coming from all directions that Pitino is contemplating hanging it up next year and that the announcement could come very soon. What is interesting is that I have not heard this from anyone of the usually reliable people around the UL program, BUT there also hasnt been anyone who will say it is not true. Something worth watching over the next couple of days….could be all just conjecture (probably is), but sometimes when there is smoke…..

Speculation is that the trial could get very messy and he doesn’t want to drag the university through it. Just speculation though.

Seriously, if Pitino does retire UofL should refuse to hire whoever he recommends. He recommended Tubby, and then suggested Ford/Pelphrey would be perfect fits at UK.
Unfortunately, I doubt he retires.

My own personal theory since Gillispie got fired (actually, since Tubby left) is that Pitino pressured Donovan not to take the UK job because he wanted Donovan to take over the UofL program when he left. Richard Pitino didn’t leave UofL in order to prove himself separate from his father, but rather was sent by Rick to Florida to prepare Donovan. I think Donovan is frustrated that after two national championships he still cannot consistently sell-out one of the smallest arenas in the SEC. He knows that UofL is established, has a new facility in the works, and has better fan support than what he has now. Pitino knows that by hiring Donovan his influence on the program can continue in a way that it no longer does at UK.

If Pitino was planning on leaving for awhile now, it would be wrong of them to send Richard away. Richard had set up recruiting lines to Indiana, Ohio, and continued to milk the Northeast and was even begining to reach out to the Seattle pipline.
Why destroy those relationships with the name UL attached? Instead they are going to send him down to Florida for a year only to come back and re-attach your name to UL. Makes no sense what so ever for Richard to leave if it was meant for Donovan to take over UL. But that is just my opinion and complete and total load of crap that I made up as I typed…

The Pitino situation is going to get very ugly. Even though it’s not in the news yet some very ugly things will come to light.

Maybe there is something to this whole Donavon replacing Ricky P. I mean, Bledsoe was thought to be a lock to wear a Gators jersey next year, then out of the blue he loses all interest in Florida. Some will say Eric left the second Donavon started to recruit Wall, but Kentucky has been recruiting Wall the entire time as well. So my thought it that maybe Billy D is going to replace Pitino and that would explain Bledsoe’s lost interest. Now why Richard is at FLA is beyond me.

That really does make a lot of sense and I would have probably never thought of that.
But from our own experience with Pitino, we know that when the rumors of him leaving starts that he will leave soon. Maybe not next season but in a year or two at least.
I hope he hangs around for a while myself so we can get this whole Cal/Pitino rivalry going and we can whip his tail a few times before he leaves.
If he does leave someone needs to send that moron that put the video on youtube yesterday a video of their own. Tell him now you aint got jack sh!t !! lol

you all arent seeing it tho, the way cards fans break it down for me is Karen and her husband got a divorce a month ago, mean while richard leaves and pitino is extorted. somebody screwed somebodys wife, i keep hearing from cards fans that karens husband got gay with one of the pitinos, and thats the bizaare allegations everyone is talking about.they said it was bizaare but i cant believe that bizaare. i dont know if thats true i dont accuse anyone of being gay. but thats is what they think pitino was extorted for, and thats is what the media calls bizaare allegations. i think its hillarious UofL is a trend and this is how they will crumble? the real deal is UK we will live forever. i love it

And it wont bother me a bit if Donovan goes to UL. Donovan is no Pitino no matter how hard he tries to look like him.
He got lucky with one recruiting class that had awesome chemisty but what has he done since the two championships? Two NIT`s in a row. And yes I know we went to the NIT last season but I really dont think we will be NIT bound for a long time now. But if the opportunity arose for Donovan to take the reigns at UL he probably would take the job because things arent really looking great in Gainesville nowadays. Unless he lands Wall, that would change things a bit in Gainesville I would imagine

I’d be willing to bet you think John Wall isn’t worth waiting the alotted time he has to choose a college, too. Bottomline is that if you don’t like it, don’t pay attention to it. #67–I posted the theory back when BCG was fired. Actually I thought Rick was going to AZ (because I live out here and they were talking to him but he turned them down). Donovan accepted the position at UK and turned it down at 2:00 the day BCG was let go.
Billy D. had spoke with Rick who I assume told him, don’t go to that fish bowl. You can accomplish the same success at Louisville, make nearly the same amount of money, fill the arena and have much less pressure. Plus you get to travel through the Big East.
The only problem was that he did not count on Cal accepting the position at UK.
As for Donovan, he has a clause in his release that he can not return to an NBA team but says nothing about other schools. It is no secret that Billy D. is not happy that the budget increase went to the Football team and the Basketball team got none.
Very likely scenario for Donovan to go to UofHell.

LSU just got a little bit worse. Delwan Graham was just dismissed from the team. He was a freshman forward that had hardly impact on the team last season. But with him now gone, they are returning 7 players from last years squad. That number may be 6, if Tasmin Mitchell stays in the draft, but he may return since he is eligible to draw him name out.

Kentucky coach John Calipari pursued both Wall and Bledsoe, with the idea that Wall would start at the point and Bledsoe would play 10-15 minutes as a backup. If Wall jumped to the NBA after one season, Bledsoe would take over in 2010.

I will be the first to admit that I have been posting that I do not think John Wall will choose UK, He’s a Diva, His decision isn’t as tough as you people claim it is, He’s prob. in a bidding war with the less elite-schools on his list (Meaning he might choose a school like Miami or NC St. over DUKE or UK b/c those other schools would cut him a fat check)and you people are giving Mr. Wall too much benefit of a doubt. As for Politics, doesn’t really bother me, i think people take politics way too serious in my opinion, but i’m not concerned with all that.
Would I like to see Wall playing in Rupp next year? Of course I would. But it makes me sick to see people post on here on a daily basis claiming they have info about Wall’s decision. Wall himself doesn’t even know. The difference between me and most of you is that I’m realistic about the situation and won’t be heart broken when/if he chooses to play else where!
If in fact Wall does Choose Lexington, I will gladly post I was Wrong! And be happy to do so!

Bledsoe will be a very solid 4-year player at Kentucky, regardless of what Wall does. And yes, that applies even if Wall starts over Bledsoe next year.

Someone commented that Bledsoe will be a fan favorite at Kentucky. I agree with that.
Bledsoe is already a better ball-handler than anyone on our team and he hasn’t even left high-school yet.

For reference, see pitino’s last game in rupp as the UK head coach(he was ejected from that game if I remember correctly. If you cant find that watch the end of last years UK vs. Georgia game in the sec tourney. He rolled the dice, it was a great shot. Its that simple.

im sorry man i dunno what you heard in AZ. but Donovan never excepted this job, neither after tubby or BCG. He did except aMagic job that you didnt mention. everybody counted on cal excepting the position (Andy Katz, Bilas, Mike and Mike, Pti the list goes on) The only clause i know of is Billy D cant go SEC in his contract. Its called the No Compete clause. If donovan goes to Uof L nevermind that wont happen. was u of l gonna give him 35 million?

Why would Richard go to Florida for a year and give up the connections to Indiana/Northeast/Seattle? Well, first of all, Masiello is the recruiter in the Northeast. Richard’s area was Indiana, but just because he’s at Florida doesn’t mean he has to give it up. I do think there is some truth that he wants to get out of his father’s shadow, but I personally believe (and I am no insider, have no connections, just a guy living in Ohio) that he’s there to help groom Donovan. Why did Donovan take the Magic job? Perhaps he thought that would be the best way to hang out until Rick left UofL, I don’t know. Like I said in my original post, this is just my crazy idea.

Rick can’t stand the Pressure of the Calipari hire - simple and Period.I guess this 2nd rate job will be O.K. for Donavon to have and he will advise Billy to take it. It’s funny how someone can lose the respect of a whole commonwealth as he has. Advising U.K. to hire John Pelphrey or Travis Ford when Calipari was to be had….Just proof he can’t stand the pressure of Not Being “The One”, “The Golden Boy”.
