Today everyone’s favorite point guard, Saul Smith gave his feelings on Calipari’s issue via his Facebook status. Huge mistake here for Saul both professionally (he is a coach at this time) and personally (his relationship with his alma mater). Saul’s comments are below, and this cant end well:
“Bad bad day for my alma mater. The UK athletic program will never regain its true champion nature with Businessmen running it. Never, no matter how many so called blue chip players you bring in. You can’t sacrifice your integrity for success. You just can’t do it. I’m an alum and I deserve a clean-ran program, plain and simple. Period, and if anyone disagrees, you, my friend, shouldn’t support the program I played 4.”
Glad Saul gets the final word on what someone who “supports the program” should feel…..
UPDATE: Saul has now apparently deleted this from his Facebook. Guess someone told him what a bad idea it was….but unfortunately for him, we saw it first.

The biggest problem I had with Tubby was his playing his son at starting point guard. The Big Blue faithful deserved better than this blatant act of nepotism. Now the blatant arrogance of Saul Smith. No one gives a amn what he thinks about “his alma mater”. UK would have been better off today if Saul had never set one foot in the door.

The NCAA ought to be taken to court if they find Rose cheated. Once the clearinghouse clears a kid they should not be allowed to go back, decide they were wrong, and then blame the college for the stuff a player did in high school. This is exactly what is happening with the SAT and also with the majority of the allegations against OJ Mayo.

This entire episode just reaffirms my belief that we should let high school kids go directly to the NBA. A guy like Rose, who apparently did not even have the aptitude necessary to get into college, has no business in college. What would have happened to Rose if he didn’t qualify? Would he have been forced to play 1 year in Europe?

I believe the fan base is being a little harsh on Saul. He is just showing concern, like Kent Benson & Ted Kitchell did for IU when they hired Sampson 3 years ago. I don’t think he should post something like this, until after the NCAA completes there investigation though either. I know that Calipari has no actual violations directly tied to him like Sampson who came to IU on probation and left with IU with on probation. The difference is Kentucky is going to have to watch very carefully because anything that Calipari does will be magnified more then ever.

Hey Pat and ESPN lets talk about Lou Holtz. Each and every program he coached was put on probation right after he left. Arkansas, Notre Dame and South Carolina are the 3 that come to mind but I believe there was another school in this group. It could have been a Big 10 school maybe Minnasota. This coming from a guy who held a press conference to announce his retirement from the NBA Development League. I had the “pleasure” of having a brief encounter with this guy when he was in school at UK. He is a class A jerk off who was barely D-1 material much less UK material. Since when do college coaches administer the SAT for a player he/she is recruiting?? Isn’t that done by the H.S. system of that state/county? If anyone is to blame, go to the Board of Education of the county involved (where SAT was taken).

Let me tell you like this …. Saul thing aside ….. No successful program in the history of NCAA basketball has a clean slate. Rules are bent at all successful programs, and if they are not then you can erase the term “successful.” Some of it has to do with the NCAA being to picky with its rules, a lot of it has to do with the pride of the program not wanting to fall behind (Indiana). I can prove my case with almost every national championship team for the last 40 years……

I am an Alumni also. It was a sad day when Saul became our point guard because it chased all the good one’s away. I love UK , you came because of your Dad and when Mitch told Tubby you could not join Tubby’s coaching staff , He had to go to Mn. , so Mommie’s boy would have a job.

University of Kentucky Alumni and former basketball player
Played from 1997 through 2001 completing a lackluster career as a student athlete. His playing for the much heralded Wildcats, as widely accepted around the state of Kentucky, is due to nepotism and pity from his father, then University of Kentucky Coach Tubby Smith. Other than continued nepotism that has landed him an assistant coaching job for the University of Minnesota Badgers along with his brief stint as University of Kentucky Men’s basketball special assistant under Tubby, Saul has little, if any claims to fame. One would wonder then if this is, in part, the impetus for running his pie-hole about then Memphis coach, current UK coach John Calipari indirectly associated with NCAA Rules Violations at the University of Memphis. For his efforts, Saul has been awarded the NCAA ‘Douchebag of the Year’ award for incredible crimes of douchebaggery and total lack of class.
Saul’s comments on the investigation:
“Bad bad day for my alma mater,” Smith wrote on Thursday. “The UK athletic program will never regain its true champion nature with Businessmen running it. Never, no matter how many so called blue chip players you bring in. You can’t sacrifice your integrity for success. You just can’t do it. I’m an alum and I deserve a clean-ran program, plain and simple. Period, and if anyone disagrees, you, my friend, shouldn’t support the program I played 4.”
When contacted for a followup to his initial thoughts, no official statement was released. However,it is rumored by a source within the Smith camp that Saul was overheard asking “I fail at life … don’t I daddy?” The source went on to suggest that his most recent lapse in judgement as due, perhaps in large part, to a need for a crash helmet from age four on.
When contacted about Saul having either a putty-like skull or potential brain injuries sustained in his youth, again, no official statement was released. It was suggested however, by childhood friend Roscoe Jenkins that Saul’s current haircut of a receding mock-fro, is rather a high tech, interwoven fiber optic mesh, crash helmet created by NASA. Nasa could not be reached for confirmation by time of this report’s publication.

The panel of seventeen judges giving the award agreed that both finalists failed at life pretty damn hard. Thus the award was retired.
Timkins “Lucky” Jackson stated about his path to infamy while preparing for the Stump Tossing record “Well sir, I lost both arms, legs, and half my lower tract to them damn swamp dwellers but its like this. If’n I wasn’t rasslin them gators, or going for this whole stump tossing competition, I wouldn’t have a reason to get out of bed in the morning no how!”
Former President of the United States, George Walker Bush, could not be reached for comment nor could Saul Smith in making a challenge for this title if and when it is brought out of moth balls leaving one to speculate that it would be a fierce competition indeed.
