[Moderated by Matt Jones]

Its almost time for the decision. Jodie must decide by tomorrow whether he will stay in the Draft or return to UK. Chances are high that as I write this, Jodie has already made his determination. Reports vary all over the internet as to what his ultimate decision will be. Andy Katz and Chad Ford of ESPN are both reporting that the assumption is he will return. Dave Baker sent out a twitter message that Meeks had cancelled his Portland workout and would likely return. I spoke with someone close to the program today who thought he would likely remain in the Draft. Bottom line, at this point no one really knows. And thus we are all waiting, with tomorrow being the bewitching hour.
No matter what the decision, it will have a tremendous effect on the UK basketball program. If he returns, the Cats are immediately one of the top two teams in America next year and fans can legitimately dream of a Final Four and possible national title. If he remains in the Draft, the Cats will still be good, but expectations will temper a bit and bottom half of the top ten is a more realistic preseason goal. If Jodie finds his way back on campus, Kentucky will be THE NUMBER ONE story in college basketball all season…with four potential 2010 first round picks on the roster and a new Coach ready to charm the masses. If Jodie does not return, Kentucky is still a big story, but is part of the tapestry of college basketball and not its dominant theme.
Thus we all wait. Jodie Meeks has been through a great deal during his time at UK. He came under one coach who left, played under another with which he never connected and saw a serious injury interrupt his development. But he also set the individual game scoring record in school history, had one of the sweetest shooting strokes in recent memory and was a class act on and off the court. Like the other guys in his class (Razor and Perry), he deserves a chance to go out a winner. He can do that if he returns…if he does not and chases his pro dream, then he will have an entire fan base behind him, hoping for his success on Draft Day. Either way, people far beyond Meeks will be affected by his final decision. We wait together to see what it will be.

ONE MORE YEAR!
June 14th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
Good article Matt!
I still think even without Meeks we will still be a top 5 team. Our frontline
is just that good. Wall and Bledsoe are the type of guards that make everyone
around them better.
I agree that with Meeks we are the #1 team in the nation
June 14th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
3. And my guess is that you couldn’t pull either one of them. Beggars can’t be choosers.
June 14th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
All I keep hearing about is how Jodie has a “dream” to play in the NBA. Well I got a dream too and that’s for UK to win a championship next year. What about my dream? Why am i less important than Jodie Meeks, just because I’m less famous? I want MY Dream to come true, so come on back Jodie!
June 14th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
if Jodie doesnt come back will Cal just save the Scholorship for next year or tried to find someone else.
June 14th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
#4 I looked at your profile pic and you are a very decent looking girl. I would love to take you out to Applebees and a movie if you would be up for it…
June 14th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
Why does everthing got to be so GD dragged out anymore? Just announce it..
This NBA withdrawal date sucks, glad it is getting moved up next year…
June 14th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
if he doesnt come back, uk has just pissed a kid and his parent off for no reason..
and also we probably would have had a better shot of signing Xavier Henry…
June 14th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
Seemingly everyone from MM and this person close to the program seems to feel Jodie will be back from what I’ve read. I have my fingers crossed. At least we’ll know by this time tomorrow.
June 14th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
Seemingly everyone besides*
June 14th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
i dunno the girl on the left is pretty cute
June 14th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
REX How was Cal suppose to know Meeks wasnt coming back.
June 14th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
Calipari has stated that he may only have 12 schlorship players this coming year, I hope Jodie makes 13.
I think he comes back unless the Bulls gave him a guarantee.
June 14th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
Here’s hoping Jodie’s desire to win a national title is as high as the fan base. ONE MORE YEAR!
June 14th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
Well it doesnoty really matter to anyone except Jodie. Does he owe UK or any fan anything. NO he does not. The only person he owes is Jodie Meeks. If he wants a chance at a championship and go down as one of the all time greats at UK that’s his decision. He can still make millions playing basketball other than the NBA. He could do so immediately as well and needs not another college year to “train”. So its up to Jodie. I personally wish him well in his “endeavor to persevere”.
June 14th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
A Bulls’ source has stated that they will likely select Wayne Ellington with their pick.
June 14th, 2009 at 1:39 pm
when i went to uk game earlier this year, when jodie was shooting free throws a fan yelled “ONE MORE YEAR!!!”. Jodie made both the free throws and then pointed at the guy. Is that a sign of anything. Probably not but anything to keep me positive about him coming back. Even if he doesn’t come back we should still be happy because imagine where we would be if BCG was still the coach. The starters would be
PG - Porter (of course)
SG - Hood
SF - Harris
PF - Stevenson
C - Orton
Are team now has better players at each position then the lineup I just named.
June 14th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
I hope Jodie does whatever is best for him. I know I would love for him to come back and try to bring a FF or championship back to the bluegrass but if he decides to chase his dream of playing in the NBA, then THANK YOU JODIE MEEKS FOR THREE GREAT YEARS OF BASKETBALL AND THANKS FOR REPRESENTING THE UNVERSITY OF KENTUCKY WITH PRIDE AND INTEGRITY ON AND OFF THE COURT, YOU ARE THE POSTER CHILD FOR THE STUDENT ATHLETE. THANK YOU
June 14th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
Sorry for going all caps but I want Meeks to know that there are fans who appreciate what he has done and went through at UK and wish him well whether he stays or goes.
June 14th, 2009 at 1:47 pm
Jodie is not NBA ready at all. I hope someone at these camps is reminding him of that.
June 14th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
Here is some of his best clips from last year.

Assassin, I’m guessing that someone else’s comment got deleted, because I’m assuming you weren’t meaning to ask yourself on a date. Assuming it was a girl, and you were serious, I don’t know whether that’s badass, or straight up weird, but either way, congrats on having the stones to throw that out there in the middle of the comments section.
June 14th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
Have you guys heard the saying “The meek shall inherit the earth”. Jodie Meeks has taken that to a whole another level.
June 14th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
21. Did you guys watch the video? I made it. I have 15 more views from when i posted it
June 14th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
#17. Orton would have decommitted and Gillispie would have brought Mark Coury back to play center.
June 14th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
Jodie still needs to work on his game. With his athletic ability he should thrive in Cal’s offense.
June 14th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
Way to promote your video champion, nice video, but you are a douche
June 14th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
28. How am I a douche. I’m just tyin to make a video and I’m only 13
June 14th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
28. I see what ur saying you coulda said this though. “You are acting like a douche”. I’m not a douche I just acted like it in that one circumstance
June 14th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
Here is the bottom line guys. No Meeks, no title shot. We would not have won in 96 without Delk and we wouldnt have won in 98 without Sheppard. We wouldnt have won in 78 without Givens, We wont win in ‘10 without Meeks. Its really that simple. Now certainly we can have a nice season without Meeks but a title? No way.
Meeks holds our dreams in his hands as well as his own.
June 14th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
No, this is douchebaggery at its finest on both ends…

28. Who calls a 13 yr old a douche? Bad form.
June 14th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
31. I think we can get to an Elite Eight without him and maybe Final Four, but to win a chamionship we will have to upset 2 or 3 teams.
June 14th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
Elite 8s dont excite me….Without a chance of a title the season takes on a different feel. Pattersons last year with a few one and dones our time is NOW. We need Meeks.
June 14th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
#34 Better video = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu_moia-oVI
June 14th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
If Jodie doesn’t come back, we don’t have a perimeter shooter. Plain and simple. We will be top 15, but Final Four chances plummet significantly.
That being said, I’m pretty sure he will come back tomorrow.
June 14th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
32+36, why do gay guys love rick astley and try to get everyone else to watch his video? stop pushing your gay music on us, we don’t like it!!!
June 14th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
#37 Hood and Dodson can shot really well. There not Jodie Meeks but they
are not far behind
June 14th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Anyone playing the Rick Astley gag is a couple years late - very hack.
June 14th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
Offensivley we are going to score enough points to win games with or without Meeks.
If we lose it won’t be because of offense, it will be because of defense. That
is why we need Jodie back plus his leadership value
June 14th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
#39- Hood shot 29% from deep
June 14th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
#42 Hood was doubled and tripled teamed his senior year
June 14th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
I’m never gonna give Rick Astley up.
I’m never gonna let him down.
June 14th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
This guy thinks Jodie is either gonna come back to UK or stay in the draft. It will be one of those two options. Done deal.
June 14th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
43. How many games did you watch?
June 14th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
42, he was the only talent on his HS team so he was probably facing double teams when shooting 29%. Imagine the space the shooters will have when the d has to worry about Wall/Bledsoe driving and all our monster post players dunking some sick oops. That being said I trust jodie over either right now
June 14th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
Jodie is coming back to UK. I can’t tell you my source (and for all I know my source could be as wrong as anyone) but the current synopsis is that Meeks will be returning to play for Kentucky this year.
June 14th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
#46 Enough. You?
June 14th, 2009 at 3:56 pm
I’m not sure why it is so hard to understand, but it is very plain and simple here,
no Meeks, no title in 2010….I just hate to see a possible title come down to the decision
of one young man….Unless that young man is Patrick Patterson….Here is a guy who could of bolted
for guaranteed 1st round money….But its is all about KY to PP…Its funny how much people keep
saying on here JOdie needs to do what is best for HIM…From everything I’ve read, that is EXACTLY
what Meeks is doing…Trust me, he doesnt need your opionion or does he care…KY has always been
just the 2nd option thru this process..Plan B ..
June 14th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
50- i don’t disagree, but we’d better get used to that happening every year.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
21, great chioce of music from a 13 year old!! LOL!
June 14th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
#8–If ifs and buts were candy and nuts we’d all have a Merry Christmas!
June 14th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
#8 or #50
June 14th, 2009 at 4:27 pm
50, that’s some stupid shit you are spewing! If you were in Meeks’ position don’t give me some BS about how you’d do this or that. I had a friend who was top 10 nationally scoring wise his sophomore year and passed up a shot at being a lottery pick and stayed 4 years. Wound up being a 2nd rounder and only played 3 years in the NBA. You gotta do what’s in your best interest and if jodie is confident he goes round 1, more power to him
June 14th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
#50…That post is spot on.
No Meeks…No Title and Meeks is trying to do what is best for himself and has two wonderful opportunities. NBA plan A… UK is plan B…But a HELL of a plan B.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3LRf2DqwZA
The ‘futbol’ version of Rupp Arena next season (@ 2:05, 2:55, 3:50), when Calipari, Wall et al do their thing.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
the people on this site crack me up…Ignorance is bliss. People saying, No Meeks, No Title…You are forgetting about Hood…Yes he shot 29% last year, but hell, he was doubled and triple teamed. Look what happen to Meeks once he broke out….His points per game and % went down. That is what happens when you are the best player on the team. Plus I hear Dodson is pretty good, but I haven’t seen him.
With the big guys we have down low and the guards we have, we are still a threat to any team in the nation. Granted I like the chances better with Meeks, but we can still match up against any team in the country without him. Either way, good luck Meeks in your decision. We will know in less than 24 hours what that shall be
June 14th, 2009 at 5:03 pm
55.. (insert whistle) you cant be , you cant be, you cant be that fn stupid… we are not
talking a lottery pick for Meeks here…i’ve yet to see him in the 1st round even on any boards.
i merely saying its obvious Meeks in looking out for HIMSELF ONLY, and UK is merely a backup
plan….just the facts man..
June 14th, 2009 at 5:18 pm
Where did I say Meeks was a lottery pick??? I said my friend was and pased it up. The point is if Meeks is sure he’s going in the 1st round, then I support that. And learn to read someone’s post before you make yourself look even more ignorant

60..son, your screen name does not seem to fit u….u obviously dont get it… there is nothing “stupid
about a guy like PPatt putting off his 1st round seleciton til next year out of passion for his program..
i find it freakin AWESOME…but Meeks is looking out for HIMSELF, not saying its a bad thing…just wish
we had more guys like P2…
June 14th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
62 I wish college basketball had a lot more of patterson. I hate Tyler H with everything I have. I hate Noah, Brewer, and Hoardford, but they are the reasons that college ball is great.
June 14th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
All of this talk of “maybe an elite eight” and having to “upset” teams to get to the Final Four is crazy. You people do realize that without Meeks we still have two lottery picks, and perhaps a third in Patterson? We’ll have three first rounders without a doubt. And that’s not to mention Bledsoe, Orton, Hood and Dodson. The difference between Meeks and not having Meeks is having an insane amount of talent and having a super ridiculous amount of insane talent. Calipari will have this team playing like greased lightning when March arrives with or without Meeks, to whom I wish all of the luck in the world in the NBA, Europe, or UK.
June 14th, 2009 at 6:14 pm
#38 Someones mad they just got Rolld Of Rick !
June 14th, 2009 at 6:55 pm
64. actually ur right we can still win a ’ship cause we still can match ku
wall matches henry
patterson matches aldrich
cousins and orton match collins (even though theyre different positions)
and we have better bench
June 14th, 2009 at 6:58 pm
52. LOL. I like rap
June 14th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
66, henry’s a scorin guard bro.
