Tough to find a picture, but the “Feed the Children” campaign had a pic of UT’s newest commit.
If there is ANY sport where you would never want to take a commitment from a kid too early, it would be football. You want to see how a kid grows and fills out, and how his skills develop.
Well, at Tennessee, as we have learned ever since Lane Kiffin took over, they don’t really go by the same “rules” as everybody else. They just took a commit from a 13-year-old. The kid is the little brother of Eric Berry, the All-American safety. The little brother also has a twin brother, who seems to have more than 5 brain cells, and has chosen not to commit to anywhere. Although, you have to love the article saying the twin brother is more interested in LSU.
Anyway, final note: This kid is 5′8”, 145 lbs. I hope he’s a kicker.
And it’s good to know that Billy G will always have a spot at Tennessee, and should fit in quite nicely.

He needs to change careers!

Ha! Ha! Ha! That is ridiculous. Kiffin must’ve needed a play buddy.

Lane Kiffin = Sally Struthers
Billy Clyde = Meat Head

You just do not do that in football, dumb.

Speaking of Billy Cock Gillispie….what was Matt’s story about him on his final show? I know it couldn’t top the AJ story
June 29th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
5- I missed that to and have been wondering what it was.
June 29th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
From what I read in a thread follwing the final show, Matt told the same AJ story (didn’t know Gillispie’s number)

In all honesty, I HIGHLY doubt this kid ever steps foot into Neyland Stadium. So much can happen in the 4-5 years that will take place between now and the time he would be a Freshman. And Kiffin is simply craving attention and obviously will do anything for a headline. What a joke, just like Bill Gillispie.

Kiffin is even a bigger joke than Silly Clyde…I bet Phil Fulmer is cackling his big fat ass off right about now…but this Kiffin character has acted the fool half a dozen times already before he’s even coached his first game at UT…that beats Smirky the Clown all to shit…I’m sure Tubby got his rocks off watchin’ us go to the NIT this year…count on it…but he aint laughin’ now…now is he? Bwah ha ha ha ha!!! But what is UT gonna do to put an end to Phil Fulmer laughin’ at their dumbasses? I’d fire his ass right now if I were UT. Seriously…he’s made UT a laughingstock and he hasn’t even fielded his first team…this guy is truly making an effort to go down as the worst hire in history…I think Kiffin’s mentally ill…there is no other possible explanation…Kiffin is sofa king we todd did…but as a UK fan…I LOVE IT!!! Please UT! Please keep Kiffin! For a long. long time!

5&6.
He told the story about how coach didn’t call anyone for practice on superbowl sunday. Went and asked each player why they didn’t call bc real teams want to practice. Most give no answer, Pat and Jodie say they should have called. AJ is last and said he didn’t have his number.
then he told another
One day coach yelled at Pat multiple times in practice for not playing with enough intensity. After like the third time, Pat looked at BCG and said, “look, you don’t yell and me, and I won’t yell at you” No more yelling at Pat the rest of the practice

Does anyone remember when we were all trying to convince ourselves that all those early commitments were going to be superstars when they got to campus?
Good times…

Another link to a story by that author was a little confusing but it seemed to say that UT had over 200 offers out at one time, then he reported 187, then he listed the number of offers of schools as listed by Scout. On it UT led with 118, with Bama and Florida around 90, USC west and Texas around forty, and Ohio State at 26 and Utah at 16 to show you the wide range. Wonder what UT does if the 28 worst decide to commit, just say we were only kidding? Yeah, knowing UT, they probably would.

This whole write up is wrong in some many ways. Lets count:
1) The kid wasn’t offered, that’s against the rules.
2) He just committed, so what. Lots of 13 year olds commit to a school. I committed to the UT band in 6th grade. Didn’t work out, though.
3) The link provided misspells Kiffin’s name at least 75 times. What kind of credibility does that give the author.
Deadspin and govols.com (knoxville’s newspaper’s sports page) has much more reputable info on this situation.
