[Moderated by Matt Jones]

Good to see you all again. I just got home from Coach K’s summer press conference. I know you’re jealous.
Word is that Xavier Henry and his little — thought older - brother C.J. might be on the way to Kentucky. My money’s on him coming to Lexington, which means that one of you is already filming a video that will embarrass your state and the Shaolin temple.
But before you do, I want you to read this Kansas City Star article that has their father, Carl Henry so angry.
Then, read this response to that from Carl on TheShiver.com (parts 1 and 2).
The moral of the story — Xavier and C.J. don’t want to go to Kansas because of something written in a newspaper in Kansas City…Missouri?
Xavier and C.J. went to Kansas to make their mother happy?
Carl Henry’s upset about how a writer characterized his decision to ignore a call during a conversation?
You think you want that? That’s a fair trade for a player whose greatest attribute is his NBA body — not his NBA game — and hates school, but isn’t really good enough to leave school after one season?
I actually feel bad for these young men. They made the decision to go to Kansas because their mother wanted them to go there, and no child should ever feel responsible for the emotional well-being of his parents. It’s an impossible situation, and it seems to me to be an indicator that there will be more drama soon. There’s their father, who clearly talks too damn much.
And then there are these boys, who were ready to get out of Kansas as soon as they heard it would be OK with their mama.
Kentucky’s already got to figure out how to get everyone enough shots. Based on what I saw in all-star games, Xavier doesn’t get all the shots he wants in one-on-one.
Is this what you want?
I don’t think so.
In all the excitement surrounding Cal’s arrival in Lexington, we haven’t talked much about the potential for this all to turn into a circus. John Wall’s there, but so is Brian Clifton and everything that comes with him. The madness surrounding Memphis is sure to resurface again (ESPN doesn’t put that many people on a case unless they’re working on something big for down the line, a la O.J. Mayo/Rodney Guillory). There’s still room for the Wall/Bledsoe pairing to go wrong if someone doesn’t feel he’s getting enough time and/or shots. And while he seems to have handled everything the right way since he got to Lexington, we’ll have to see how much Patrick Patterson likes spending his season on the weak side, as the DDM calls for.
Kentucky might be a top 5 team, but there’s room for this season to be a train wreck. Why chance it with players whose parents clearly have too much influence on what happens with their children?
Sorry, but this doesn’t seem like a good idea to me. Is UK a title team without Xavier? Maybe not.
But, strange as it sounds, there’s a chance they could be worse with him.

Eh, I’ll take my chances.

Good stuff!
June 30th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
Sounds like someone just came from a Coach K press conf.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
Team turmoil? Perhaps. I heard Mama Legion wants another look….
June 30th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
I feel ya cousin!!! Henry is not worth the trouble..he’s a punk
MM
June 30th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
We’ve got the Razor “Ramon Harris” so who cares about these other kids??? LOL
June 30th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
Know what, I’ll take my chances at this point. If it’s a train wreck, so be it. Not every season can go as you want it to go. After the last 4 years of toiling in obscurity, I’ll take the gamble with Cal, with Wall, with Henry, with Cousins. I’ll roll the dice and see what comes up. If it’s snake eyes, then so be it. If not, we’re going to be THE team to beat in college hoops next season.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
I saw Bomani on the Tobacco Road Rivalry on one of my premium channels. Thanks for the article and I see your point. UK could use a shooter; if Xavier is as good as promoted, I’d like to see him come to UK. Hopefully, the other stuff will work out.
Go Blue.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
Maybe the entire drama stems from the fact the boys wanted to be with Cal and Kentucky the entire time?
June 30th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
You sound like a UNC or Duke fan? Henry will make UK better stupid! Did UNC have that promblem this year, NO!!!!
June 30th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Well I wondered when Mr. Evey would show his face. Come on Bo man, if the X man was talking about coming down south to the land of Tobacco, we’d be hearing none of this. The kid didn’t want to go to Kansas to start with but didn’t want to disrespect momma. Once he lands in The Big Blue Nation, no more drama, no more mention of ole Dad, it just be raining threes,,,,you dig??????
June 30th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Why do we need this guy posting on OUR KENTUCKY WEBSITE!!! Go back home!!!
June 30th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
BJ are you nuts!! This team well be very good without him I will give you that much. But with…..are you kidding me! This team could very well be one of the best all time. Sure things can go wrong…people can get hurt, mad and even leave. But what if they don’t? No one did on the 96′ team did they? Fab Five?
Can you even imagine the potential of this team with the X-Man on it….Somebody pince me I must be dreaming…..
8 nuff said.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
umm… were gunnna be realllly fkn good with henry so why the F%ck not??
June 30th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
NIT - that is what a real train wreck feel like.
Isn’t Bomani a UNC or Duke fan? Either way spoken like a real ACC fan.
One who is getting scared about another great UK run on college basketball
June 30th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
I agree with Bomani 100%. I’m scared to death of these kids, with parents in tow, coming to Lexington. Please stay in Lawrence.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
If Carl is pissed about a news article, he won’t last a minute in Lex.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
Man shit must really be boring down in Puke and Baby Powder Blue Land. What did you do Bomani, attend a Pat Forde seminar lately? Let us worry about us up in here.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
BTW, Love the “embarass your state and the shaolin temple” line.
Gotta love the Kentucky Fans. The Puke fans can’t even hang with the sheer number and intensity of the Wildcat Big Blue Nation!
June 30th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
Bo, I agree with you myself but Cal is very good at handling media and people alone including parents so I think we’ll be okay although I agree with you we will have some difficulties but like many others, I’ll take my chances. Xavier is the one recruit that can replace Jodie’s shooting. I’ll take my chances.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
I’m laughing at some of you who think Bomani is a Duke fan…
June 30th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
black much?
June 30th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
the issue isn’t the kids as much as it is the parents.
and for the slower among us (that would be 10, 11 and 15), some recommended reading…

Cal knows a lot more about it than any of us do. He’s been recruiting these kids for years and he knows their personalities. He would not put them all on one team if he didn’t have the ability or charisma to make sure they all got along.
Bomani, I have to question and think that some of your ACC bias is coming into play here. This drama is all steering from the fact that X did not want to be at Kansas. Did you hear any of this when he was committed to Memphis? didn’t think so. When his son is satisfied, he’ll be satisfied. Bring him on and trust that Cal knows what he is doing…after all he has been doing it for quite some time.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
basing your opinion of a player off an all star shows your basketball ignorance. I take Liggins’ basketball IQ over BJs everyday of the week
June 30th, 2009 at 8:02 pm
darkness
June 30th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
Could there be issues with the parents? Sure.
Could there be issues with Cousins? Yes.
Could there be issues with any recruit? Yes.
Most of what you say Bomani is what my law-dog friends call conjecture.
Could be. Might be. Possibly.
If it all “blows up,” what are we talking? Pouting? Transfers? Probation? Team chemistry? I’ll take my chances with the first two, trust Cal with the last. The one in the middle doesn’t seem to apply here, so let it fly.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:04 pm
The entire drama came from people who write articles like this one. Xavier wanted to be with Cal since day one and if he finally comes to UK with Cal then itll help the situation alot. What better medicine is there for a kid who relys too much on the opinions of there parents, then to actually be away from there parents and develope there own backbone and decision making skills. Xavier will get that here, oh and hell also get a championship and be cemented in UK Basketball lore as a member of the best team UK has ever seen.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
Ricky Barry averaged 5 assists a game over his career but since he has the record for most FGA in an all star game he was a selfish player. great logic
June 30th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
sounds like Bo wants Carl to read this and get pissed so X won’t come here. Agenda Bo?
June 30th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
I try to tell you all a few days back that this rumor had some strong
legs to it. I also said a few days about that the rumors were strong, not
because of anything Cal did but because the UK staff was contacted by
the “other side”.
Just like Carl Henry said today in his interview - He contacted Cal/staff. Cal/staff
didn’t contact him.
I got lucky again. I must be a master at guessing.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
With the Xavier Henry, this is definitely the undisputed best class ever, with Michigan a far # 2.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:11 pm
I know you ain’t really a Pukie Homer Bomani, just jabbing. But I think that you and others are over analyzing this entire deal man. If the kid would have had his way, he would have been here to start with, bottom line. His parents, namely his mother forced the issue and now they, he, Kansas, and whoever else may be paying the price. I see a happy ending for all, namely the kid, and it just so happens the number “Eight” seems to come to mind.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:11 pm
UK lost a shooter in Meeks. UK will gain a shooter in X. UK has a better shot at winning in April with a shooter than without. Seems simple to me.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
I’m not hating at all on Bo. I love this thread. It is a good perspective and shows people still possess sanity aside giddy arrogance. I do feel there will be some trouble but the bottom line is we do have a perimeter threat vacancy and a 6′6 kid with an NBA body who shoots as well as he does is an opportunity that we can’t pass up even if there are some risk factors. Xavier may go in one year along with nearly 5 or 6 other kids but we need a great season like the one ahead to generate not necessarily a dynasty but an established powerhouse.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Bo, you are out of your mind. Seriously, thats why they pay Coach Cal the big bucks, to make these tough decisions about our team. If Cal can get the henry brothers to come to Lexington, then why not???
June 30th, 2009 at 8:14 pm
Orton and X, just kickin it…

June 30th, 2009 at 8:14 pm
[...] As I have mentioned previously, I do think Xavier is a great player but he may have some issues that follow him. Bomani thinks there is a “train wreck” possibly on the horizon if Xavier is to attend UK. He also is wondering about how everything will play out with the overload of the talent. Here is the post from Bomani…. [...]
June 30th, 2009 at 8:14 pm
Come on Xavier.2010 Champs!!!!!!!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:16 pm
I don’t know about all that Bomani, but one thing I do know is the broad in the Evony banner advertisement has some set of knockers on her.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
So #35 let me see if I understand things from your perspective. If you think that a kid will be trouble, but you want him anyway, would that fall under GIDDY ARROGANCE? Get on one side of the damn fence or the other and stop trying to lick Bomani. I’m not bashing him for writing his piece, that’s fine, it’s a well written opinion, I just don’t agree. If I thought a kid would bring “Some Trouble” hell I wouldn’t want him. I think this kid got railroaded to a school he never wanted to be at, and since then things have come to a head, and he wants to play for the coach that HE WANTS TO PLAY FOR.

EVAN DANIELS SAIS BEST SHOOTER IN CLASS BOMANI STOP HATIN
June 30th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Good point, Bomani. I feel Meeks turning pro had a lot to do with this though.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
whats better, sinsational seven, or sintalating seven, either way we hang #8!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
Siete grande!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
Bomani did you leave anything out that you think could go wrong this season?
What if the Henry’s come and the family loves it? Or how the freshman will get along as well as they have so far? Sure a lot of things could (in the what if world), not work out so well, but just as well, they could be just fine. Does KU have any players that are as good as friends as Wall and Orton are to Xavier?
June 30th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Once again Bomani doesn’t get it…X is a pain in the azz to KU because he never really wanted to be there…which would not be the case at UK. I understand Bomani’s points, but I also take it with a grain knowing that he is anything but objective concerning this. X turns this team into THE favorite, and rightfully so. I dont understand people who want to criticize a teenager who has trouble making such a big choice as if they could possibly understand this situation…the guy should be able to play where he wants and for whom he wants.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
41, you need to relieve your inner stress amigo. I mean giddy arrogance by the surrounding cat cahnting number eight ALREADY… DURING THE SUMMER. I would love to have Xavier. I’ve said problems may follow but there risks I am willing to take for the sake of the team. I encourage Xavier to come but respect Bomani’s post. Chill teh fug OUT!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
He actually wants to go to UMinn but the coach doesn’t like players of his caliber.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
Ain’t now Greener Grass than Horsefarm Grass Baby!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
Bomani, all your points are valid but the fact still remains that EVERY college team in the land expept one or maybe two would change places with usd in a second.
We’ll take our chances.

#40 - That is the most “spot-on” comment of the night!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
Are we talking about Lance Stephenson or Xavier Henry?
Come on Bomani, you take your chances with this kind of talent–especially if he plays a position where there seems to be a glaring need. If he becomes a cancer, then you dismiss him…if he turns out to be a decent team player, then the resulting product is a better team. But you’ve got to roll the dice with a shooting guard of his caliber.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
Did someone drink some Haterade this morning? Opinions are like a-holes everyone has one. Nice write up though.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:28 pm

June 30th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
Bomani, I’ll keep it simple.
Shut up and go away!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Hey Bomani, just wanted to let u know I seen u on A&E Michael Jackson tribute- they tabbed you as a “CULTURAL CRITIC”!!!! You are just a well rounded individual huh? It was a great show, Im just givin you a hard time
June 30th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Well, one thing is for sure, this thing will play out at the speed of sound. KU nor the Henry family can afford for it to drag out. I’ll bet the word will come one way or the other no later than Thursday, probably tomorrow.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
Probably tonight’s my guess. Over under on the final call 0900 tommorrow morning?
June 30th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
MAN, WE NEED A EMERGENCY LIVE BLOG,,,,,,NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
there’s something some of you need to understand…
i don’t care about basketball or any team nearly as much as you do. nobody does. love you to pieces, but you’re a different breed. the rest of us just aren’t like that. agenda? no time for that.
plus, i’m from texas, and don’t you ever forget it. question my intentions if i’m talking about longhorns football or braves baseball, but that’s it.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
and it’s funny…did the a&e biography back when i wrote about music. first sat for it six years ago. it’s a bit more gratifying now that someone actually knows who the hell i am.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
52 - That’s VERY interesting! That’s a lot of smoke…and where there’s smoke…I think we’ll hear something really soon.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Man are there some haters on here? Just a question- why are there people bashing Bo- he didnt make you read this article did he? Show some friggen class please
June 30th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
Tall hottie, im thinking itll be noon tomorrow offically but will leak out like the Wall situation by 2 in the morning.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:41 pm
I knew who you were before they even posted your name- I thought it was a great piece I was just givin you a hard time
June 30th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
Bo Man Genie,
We should always look at both sides and I’m glad to see Matt bring you in for this. Nice piece. This is exactly why we pay others to make informed decisions for the Big Blue Nation. Cal, Sandy, Mitch and others are here for these decisions and I trust they know what to do. What more can I ask. Go Big Blue!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
Yall are being a lil hard on the BO for real. What fun would journalism be if everyone wrote the same article? Besides hes a Braves fan, Ill cut him some slack purely based on that.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Bomani - We have been a circus for the past few years with Billy Gillispie the Clown running the show. Everyone has been laughing. They won’t be laughing anymore. Henry more than negates the loss of Meeks. Henry’s deep threat is what UK is missing now. A big time player at SG. UK will have no weaknesses 1-10. The bench will be deep and a lot of teams will be humbled. The main weakness will be youth and inexperience, and getting players to play as a team and share the ball.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Bomani, great stuff. A very rational summation of where things stand and where they could go with Xavier. I’m not sure NC appreciates what they have with you.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:44 pm
why don’t you guys get off bomani’s back. he is just giving you an unbiased opinion of a recruit, he’s not being a unc or duke fan by doing so. you guys are the reason that i hope any recruits never read this site.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:44 pm
Bo Man Genie,
A lot off newbies on this site and they have no idea. I appreciate your work and opinion.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:44 pm
Man we will never be able to get tickets to a game this year…
June 30th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
And season tickets were on sale left and right before Cal. Hah! Cal shoulda held out for more money. UK is going to make a mint!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
when matt had the article earlier i said it was a bad idea then and i still think its a bad idea!!!! we dont need em- we are going to be fine- thats one thing i hate about some cat fans, they can never be pleased always wanting more. best be careful what u wish for folks, im tellin ya
June 30th, 2009 at 8:50 pm
Bomani - man I’m not going to rip on you like everyone here. I agree that there are some chemistry concerns if Xavier does indeed join the class. In fact, I was just discussing with a friend that I wonder if there’s such a thing as “too much” talent. However, as I’m sure you would acknowledge, while there is a chance that it could be a train wreck, there is also a chance that with what will likely go down as (at least in terms of rankings coming out of high school) the greatest recruiting class ever, the sky is indeed the limit.
I respect you for putting your head in the lion’s mouth and sharing your opinion. And, my only qualm with your post is that Kansas City, Missouri is right next to Kansas. And were you waiting on the Salina paper to fire up the Henrys? Aren’t too many people (or newspapers, for that matter) in Kansas…
June 30th, 2009 at 8:50 pm
ur an idiot if u dont want these kids…cal knows how to deal with egos..be happy that great players wanna play at UK
June 30th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
Bomani - I disagree with your take on the Henry situation WRT Kentucky, but still it’s great to see you posting here and we always enjoy your input. Good day sir!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
Bomani,
I like your style, bro. I realize you’re probably the type who doesn’t care what a lot of these haters and clowns are saying right now, but I’ll go ahead and say it — ignore these haters and clowns. As you know, say ANYTHING other than “KENTUCKY RULES” or “CAL IS KING” and you get bashed. Just ask every other media person in America. Ha.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
now’s not the time for objectivity Bomani.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
show some class, y’all
June 30th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
Bomani, let me ask you a straight up question,, If Duke, N.C. Texas, Ucon, Pitt,,,well you get the point, had a chance to get the kid, would they take him?
June 30th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
I’m on the fence with this one. I think Bomani raises some valid points concerning the maturity of the players involved in this debacle. Listening to the way the XCJ Sr. has been talking recently, and assuming that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, I’d have to say that taking a pass on the Last Train to Belgium would not upset me in the least.
On the other hand, if the Cats need a shooter, and KY is where XCJ truly want to be, then perhaps this prima donna type behavior goes away just like a child’s tears dry up when he gets that cotton candy he has been hollering about.
Besides, if we can stick it to Self and the poor kids who have to use rocks as chalk, I say grab on with both hands and drive the dagger deeply. Let’s pick up these wayward Henry’s and bring home numero Ocho.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
Can’t disagree with Bomani. Anything like this has potential to blow up. But, would you rather a team hold hands and love each other and lose 12 games?
Risk/Reward. I think Henry’s dad is a pain in the ass, but, there will be so much bad press come out of Lex that he won’t have one article to be pissed at.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
I think UNC could have some chemistry problems this year. Think about
all that talent they have, not everyone gets to play. Some guys
sat the bench last year and expect to get their turn this year but
what if Henson takes one of their spots?
I think UNC is headed for a train wreck
June 30th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
I’ve got confidence in Coach Cal. Everyone will know there role…

I hope Xavier tears every ligament in his knee and ruins any hopes he ever had of being in the NBA.
lol, KU fans are horrible fans.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Hey save if X doesnt come how about giving Kige the last scholly i guess he has been working on
his free throws saw a couple youtube videos. Also he has a leadership quality about him could help Cal out with coaching!
June 30th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
Honestly, I’ve never been impressed with Mr. B. Jones’ posts or his participation on the live blogs. This one does nothing to change my mind.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
yeah bring henry on. jones you dumb shit what are you a puss. cal is used to this shit.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Well, it’s 9:30pm (out East) … any updates? Ha. KY Ink reported they were meeting at 3:30 CST. Any chance this breaks tonight? I really can’t imagine another press conference; that’s be silly.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
Another thing, there is no such thing as TOO Much Talent On A College Basketball Team. For those that think that X’s coming would cause a problem for that reason is on drugs. We NOW have a coach that knows how to handle talent, and make the most of it, not like Billy the Boozer that just exited stage left. My opinion is this,,,,If Cal thinks we need him, we need him. He has won my complete trust, and I’ll take my chances with his decisions.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:11 pm
Boman, why didn’t you write this spin when the Henry’s committed to Kansas? If what you say applies to Kentucky, then why not Kansas? Are you biased against Kentucky?
June 30th, 2009 at 9:12 pm
This is a great opinion that every Kentucky fan should consider. (Not necessarily agree with; I think most UK fans think the rewards of Xavier outweigh the risks.)
I think that adversity early in the schedule will be very, very good for this team. We’ll figure out how Wall/Bledsoe/Cousins can handle it, and how well all the team responds to Patterson & the other older players.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
I have to say there is a bit of truth to what he is saying but that same risk is with any recruit. The drama or potential drama that could come with Xavier seems to be fro mom and dad. Had they let them choose the school they wanted from the get go they would have already been here. And they already been here the same risk would be here. A lot of egos to take care of. Cal certainly is going to earn his money this year.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
Joe Crawford on Billy Gillispie after the Cats loss to Marquette yesterday.
“He’s done more for me than a lot of people in my life,” Crawford said. “He changed the outlook everyone had on me. He changed me as a person. He got me believing. He’s done so much for me and I love him for that. I don’t know how I could repay him, ever.”
well, that’s one for Billy Snide. I hadn’t seen that quote in a long time. hahaha

As a guy who works for this company that owns the plane and FLOWN on it many many times, trust me this isn’t going anywhere particular with Kentucky Basketball. As you noticed, Alliance Coal owns coal mines in both the cities mentioned with Wheeling, WV and Carmi, Ill. with the headquarters here in lexington. In Carmi there is Patiki Coal (aka White County Coal) and in Wheeling there is Tunnel Ridge opening up in 2011. I have flown on N808WA multiple times and seeing since I was at work today when all this started going down and deal with the AIR 51 (the hangar that this plane is housed out of here at Bluegrass) this plane isn’t going anywhere.

Bomani, thanks for the great post. Coach Calipari has said he doesn’t want any “takers” on his team, and although I don’t know if the Henry boys fall in that category, some of their actions in this recruitment suggests it could be a concern. Posters on this site (and all other UK sites for that matter) need to realize that raising an legitimate issue is not an attack on the program–it’s just food for thought. Calm down.

eric bledsoe is yelling “let’s get shit right” at the top of his lungs right now

I went on theshiver.com when Cal had just become our coach and there was speculation that X would follow him to UK rather than go to KU…
The Jayhawk fans were hating on him then!!
They said exactly what we would have said if it were a similar situation but it may come back to bite them in the ass…considering the fact that Bill Self is a prick and Cal is much more popular with young guys these days.
Consider this…if Rex Chapman still lived near UK and his son was growing up here and UK was not his first choice…we would be up in arms too.
All the Jayhawks fan were pissed then and they sure are now…they’re saying - Let UK and Cal have the Henry’s…
I say…bring them on. Kansas (the state) blows donkey dick. Come to UK and you’ll be loving life!
BTW — Bomani…ease up on Stangl. Or else get a new punching bag. The verbal banter between you two…is like Norman Mailer vs. Mike Tyson…

101. exactly, how else could he have played that much through plantar fasciitis? He made him comfortable with his feet
June 30th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
this post shows exactly why some sports writers publish anti UK stories..Bomani usually gets @10 comments, this on is over 100
June 30th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
KI’s live blog is a JOKE! I’m embarrassed for them. The guy they have on there is retarded.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
Bomani’s points are good.
He doesn’t make stupid statements like — “These kids are primadonnas…”
He did however diss Xavier’s game, which is a little harsh.
The main point here is that both guys had originally wanted to play for Calipari and their Mom was the main thing holding them back to coming to UK…
The rest of the circus has been caused by KU fans acting like…well…UK fans….
June 30th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
I think you are being a bit harsh on the kid and his parents. They wanted him to do something he did it but wasn’t happy about it. The article gave X a reason to jump out of town.

Bo u tell people ur a braves fan!
June 30th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
I kind of see what Bomani means, are these egos all gonna be able to fit together on one court?
June 30th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
Calipari has the experience and the mojo to mesh these egotalented individuals together. Similiar to the job Pitino did in 1996. Just wait and see.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Bomani is the new Tipton!! Get angry and say stupid KSR comment things and post hatred now!!!!!
June 30th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Bomani, you got it all wrong. It’s not if we can deal with the family circus. It’s can they deal with Lexington’s circus? They should be more afraid of us!
June 30th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
Phog.Net is reporting that Xavier Henry will be attending UK, but that CJ will be attending Kansas…. People are on Kansas message boards are saying if this is true, then CJ will be booed off the floor during Midnight Madness
June 30th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
Bomani I see where youre coming from, but honestly if your program had been banished to obscurity as ours has for 4 years, youd take the damn chance too.
Also, nothing against you bro, but if youre gonna post on a UK website, howabout something positive? Just every now and then?
I think the chances this blows up in our faces is minimal at best. I say bring em on.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
Bomani well thought out post. Parents can be more trouble than their worth sometimes. Parents should be seen and not heard, it is their kids life. Xavier made one mistake he went with his love of his family, instead of his heart. Yes it is hard making kids see that winning is far more important than personal goals. Each coach strives for this each year. If Cal puts a player or his parents before the team, he will have made a mistake. I just can’t see it happening. I’m sure if it does though every Tom, Dick and Harry sport writer will remind us of his prediction.

Bomani is a cool dude. You would know this if you paid attention to what he says and how he carries himself on a regular basis. He makes a perfectly legitimate point here, and if you can’t see that then you are ignorant. Bo- during the live blogs, you always seem to have a good grasp of the music scene as well as good taste. The London Calling shout out last blog was very cool (Matt, I love ya, but I’m not convinced you knew what the hell Bo was talking about). Can you point me to some of your dissertations on the music genre?
June 30th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
Is this the Snuggie guy?
June 30th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
i agree %100 with this post. at the same time i think King Cal knows what’s up and it’s going to be one hell of a legendary if not interesting year.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
As someone who lives in Raleigh, NC and listens to Bomani on 850 the buzz. I totally respect him to give his own opinion regardless of what other people think or which teams he may or may not like. I really do not even know who his team is. When you live in the Triangle area people could like a number of teams and Duke is generally not one of them which I love as a Puke hater.
Anyway, thanks for post and as a few people have said I will definitely take my chances because we need an outside shooter NOW this year!

Twitter update….Henry’s will have a press conference Thursday………looks like they’re coming….

I just wanted to say that I appreciate Bomani’s take. Its a very well thought out opinion that raises some real issues. I suppose anyone is free to see nothing but sunshine and lollipops if they want. I, for one, realize that there is the possibility for trouble here.

there is a such thing as too much talent and when that happens chemistry fails…so is it really worth chancing it especially we are kinda borderline on that happening already…
July 1st, 2009 at 10:04 am
bthompson, music stuff can be found at salon.com and on my blog.
but the better question — would other programs go after xavier? yes. would all? no. i don’t know why that’s an issue, though.
