Its late and I am tired, so lets just review the news on this surprisingly busy day:
— The biggest news of the day came from Larry Vaught, who reported that a source was telling him that Adrien Payne and Brandon Knight could be close to a commitment to UK. For those of you that dont follow recruiting closely (shame, shame), these are two of the top players in the Class of 2010 and Brandon Knight is a coveted prize that UK is fighting for, along with Florida. The Frosted one came around later and said that the commitments were not imminent from what he was hearing, so it could be a classic Vaught v Frost matchup. But if what Larry is hearing is correct, this could be a monster 2010 class opening.
— Vaught was on fire today and also first reported that UK will play Western Kentucky in football for four years beginning in 2010. The games will alternate between Lexington and Nashville, where the Cats will play in Titans stadium for the WKU homegames. This is obviously huge for the Western program and also reflects the reality of the difficulty teams have in getting guaranteed home games at these late junctures.
— We reported here first that the UK basketball schedule will be announced via a live television program that will play across the state on the Big Blue Network. The schedule is finalized, but will not be officially announced for the next couple of weeks until game times are finally given by the SEC. As we stated earlier, the holdup was a one game scenario that UK was attempting to secure and it is unclear whether that was arranged. At this time, UL, UNC, IU, UCONN and the Cancun Classic are on the schedule as big games for the Cats.
— The first pickup video materialized today and showed a freakishly good John Wall and Eric Bledsoe hitting the court. The game was taken at a UK basketball camp and while it is easy to tell people not to read too much into it, we are only human. What is clear is just how explosive Wall can be and just what a difference in athleticism we will see this season in the Blue uniforms.
That is the quick summary of events…we will have more tomorrow, including what constitutes a successful season for the basketball team and Mosley grading the final four finalist for Who Wants to be a Blogger. Stay tuned….

Wow Larry Vaught found out first about the Football schedule with Western. Waiting to see what Frosty Tips has to say about that one.

Gina Head won’t stop staring at me…
July 27th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
Funny!
July 27th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
I just went into the archives from last summer, where someone said it wasn’t worth the trouble to have Wall play at UK and they were also comparing Matt “Beast” Pilgrim to Mashburn, wow how times have changed!

Anyone catch Cal’s last tweet?
July 27th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
Finally a tweet from coach Cal stating “I’ll have some great news for tomorrow.” Wonder if it relates to the schedule…and the one slot remaining??
July 27th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
Cal announcing a commit would be sweet. 1- because its a commit. 2- because it makes Frosty look stupid.

#8 — likely it’s Cal announcing his book tour dates and locations. My other guess is that it’s a teaser announcement about a new team on this year’s schedule… like Kansas.
July 28th, 2009 at 12:23 am
pickup games rock, anyone here see jordan vs. bird when they were playing for a bag of chips? Nothing but net!
July 28th, 2009 at 12:29 am
I hope the good news is a Brandon Knight and/or Adrien Payne commitment.
July 28th, 2009 at 12:29 am
#9 — then by your reasoning, if Cal doesn’t announce a commit, then Maggard looks like a genius, right?
July 28th, 2009 at 12:56 am
Cal can’t talk about any recruit publicly until they sign a LOI, so he def isn’t announcing a committment. Maybe one will surface but he won’t be the one to tell us.
July 28th, 2009 at 1:15 am
Pilgrim is a beast.
July 28th, 2009 at 1:48 am
I wonder if Cal’s news will be that Dodson is cleared and good to go
July 28th, 2009 at 2:37 am
Ramon Harris and Perry Stevenson are probably the 2 biggest wastes of scholarships to ever put on a UK uniform. P.S can not stick his finger in his ass and i think R.H. is retarded.
July 28th, 2009 at 3:41 am
18) They have also played 4 years under 3 different coaches and played as hard as they could and never once complained.
July 28th, 2009 at 3:41 am
i wouldnt say that 18 i mean two years ago when patterson went down if it wasnt for stevenson we would have been in the nit that year to, and granted ramon isnt that great scorin the ball he locked down a lot of good players to help us win certain games so i would say they are a waste
July 28th, 2009 at 3:43 am
can anyone find a video on payne
July 28th, 2009 at 7:15 am
15. how is him telling us he has good news for us have anything to do with him publicly talking about a recruit? lol he doesn’t mention anything about a player or anything that even resembles a name in that message. What about the scrambled twitter coach sent out before John Wall committed?
July 28th, 2009 at 8:48 am
I just hope the tweet that Coach Cal’s talking about, is that the “old Frosted one” isn’t one of his dog’s illegitmate pups
July 28th, 2009 at 8:50 am
18, you are an idiot. They are both good players.
I can think of dozens of players who have been wastes of scholarships.
These two are not on that list.
Stop acting like fool and zip it.
July 28th, 2009 at 8:56 am
18. WOW. You are quite the analyst. Ramon Harris retarded? Purry Stevenson can’t stick a finger in his ass? I am floored.
You should really try to get a job with ESPN. Your skills are legendary.
Let me spell it out for you. You, sir are a D-O-U-C-H-E-B-A-G.

[...] Kentucky Sports Radio reports that UK will release its basketball schedule via TV. [...]
July 28th, 2009 at 8:58 am
I think that this could quite possibly be the funniest thing that has come from our line-bearded brethren down I-64:
“-I think, when Cal puts Patterson, Stevenson, Liggins, Wall, and Miller on the floor, that would be a team with very good chemistry, but no consistent offense outside of Wall and PP. Cal will have to field such a team, just to get some defensive pressure and length on smaller, less athletic teams. But that team will struggle offensively against a team of Jennings, Samuels, Swopshire, Sosa and Smith. Of course we all know that Cal is intent on starting Bledsoe instead Liggins… so we know that Chemistry Problem Liggins, probably won’t be around after X-mas break. We also know that 3 freshmen on the floor, will lead to a lack of defensive intensity. Its one thing to chase around a bunch of Highschoolers’s knowing that you have a massive edge in size and speed and talent, in a man-2-man or zone defense, but it is another thing to have to play an organized team, and even another, to play a GOOD, experienced college organized team. Some teams in the SEC will rip UK to shreds… Folks need to remember how mightily SS struggled against even mid-major teams… and guarding them and evenin scoring against them. Teams with a plan and good coaching, like Florida, and USC, MSU, and UT, and Vandy, will rip UK to shreds on either or both ends of the floor. The one guy who will rise above it all… will be Wall. Without Wall, UK is an average High-level team that is maybe 2-3 years away from an all-out SEC championship and perhaps an Elite 8 or Final Four run. But with Wall, UK either becomes more or less. I am banking on the fact, that when faced with average talent and with a system that stymied his athleticism, Wall will suffer in College, like he did in HS. A 15-12 record with a last 2nd loss in the state semi’s shows me that he is prone to trying to take over in game time situations, and yet he is and will be as inconsistent as most. With 2 other D1 prospects on his team, that record also points towards bad coaching, and bad chemistry.
The defense will drop off even more, when Cal adds Cousins and Orton and removes PP and PS. You then have 5 freshmen on the floor. All, very talented, but only 1 or 2 giving their all on defensive. Because BB is a conditioning game, these guys will get worn down, chasing Mid-major guards through screens. 4 years they have played “me-first” ball…and now have a summer and a fall to learn college defense, at a high level, in order to win it all…
Its not happening.”

27) could you bold the important shist for me?
July 28th, 2009 at 9:06 am
27-unfortunately, there are some valid points in there. But I don’t think we will be torn to shreds, and certainly nothing like the Vandy “whooping” two years ago.
July 28th, 2009 at 9:10 am
Matt, i heard you were gonna ‘frost your tips’. Is this true?
July 28th, 2009 at 9:14 am
Hey #30 Matt doesn’t have tips…he’s got locks to frost.
July 28th, 2009 at 9:32 am
18 was over-the-top in his comments, but the gist of what he writes is true. While Perry S. and Ramon H. may be fine individuals and well-liked by their teammates, neither should’ve been given a scholarship to play basketball at UK. I do hope they enjoy their final season, though.
July 28th, 2009 at 9:45 am
What is the point in trying to rate a UK players worth on the team? Their cats and will always be cats. Don’t hate on our players.
July 28th, 2009 at 9:49 am
Im a good guy and would give it my all on the court. Does that mean I get a scholarship to UK for basketball?
I agree with 32. Im sure they are both good men and can probably stick their fingers in stinky places and function on their own in society, that doesnt mean they should be playing basketball for UK.
Having said all that, they played here when no one else wanted to or did, so you cant compare them to the Mid 90’s or any other time because it isnt fair to them. Sure if they were from a different time they probably wouldnt have gotten a scholarship but Chuck Hayes probably wouldnt have either. So I give these guys credit for coming and carying the torch when most people in America didnt want to come to UK.
July 28th, 2009 at 9:54 am
Perry was here for his shot blocking ability and with actual true post players this year I could see him putting in a few valuable minutes off the bench. He will be able to come from the blind side and just go for blocks which is his one and only strength (Watch Vernardo at MSU) Razor has been a dull blade since he arrived!
July 28th, 2009 at 9:59 am
With all the excitement we have in the program now, and with all the attention we will be getting from the media, and the fact that most UK fans would give up their summer if basketball season would approach faster, what is the point in calling out players on our team? It’s our team guys, spend your time more effectively by making fun of the rest of the SEC East.
July 28th, 2009 at 10:13 am
Anyone else see the article in the CJ about which is better SEC football or Big East basketball? I couldnt believe people were actually even debating it.
July 28th, 2009 at 10:42 am
18. You must be a pre-teen or have very little knowledge of UK basketball history. They are far from being the worse players to dawn a Kentucky uniform. Maybe you’re just not a real Kentucky fan.
July 28th, 2009 at 11:25 am
