I received word Tuesday that UK would have a visitor flying in on Wednesday but was told to keep it tight lipped until the landing in Lexington. Out of respect for the family and tremendous gratitude for the heads up, I decided to respect their wishes and keep this thing private. But the internet age will not wait, and it seems like the cat has found its way out of the bag, most likely through back sources, so I feel like it is safe to go ahead and let this one go.
Lexington will be getting a visit on Wednesday from the big name of the summer, 6-7 forward Tobias Harris. Torrel Harris, Tobias’ father, wrote via text on Tuesday: “We are planning a trip to Kentucky on Wednesday before we go [to] Portland for Nike Global.”
Harris joined the Albany City Rocks in Orlando and had plenty of coaches watching his games. UK has recently picked up the interest with Harris and extended an official offer about 2 weeks ago. The Harris family will be touching down in Lexington tomorrow for a short visit before going out west for the Nike Global Games. Tobias is a tremendous ball player and a great kid on top of that. Any school would be lucky to have him, so UK fans should get pretty excited about this visit and about the possibility of Tobias wearing the Blue & White. We’ll keep you posted on how the visit goes…

Is there an official count on how many actual offers UK has out there? I know Cal said he wanted a UK offer to be something prized and for it to be significant but it seems like there are an awful lot of kids out there with an offer from UK in their pocket.

22 - That’s what happens when you don’t work with reputable people. Dustin says yesterday that he spoke with Harris’s dad and doesn’t mention a visit because he asked him to keep it private. The guy who goes off of second hand hearsay and by peddling low level players with other scumbags hears it through the grapevine and reports it.
This is not the first time Marc Maggard has put out recruiting news that the family had asked to remain private. He did it to a current UK player. But thats what bottom feeders do right Dustin?
Marc should apologize.

Hey, I’ll be honest with you guys, I think I did so in my post, and say that I wasn’t the first to break this news. I got a text from Torrel, who has been incredibly helpful with his son’s recruitment, at 5:37 saying exactly what I typed above but that it was only for me. I wrote back asking if he meant he wanted it kept secret and he said yes and that he would text me back when he landed in Lexington.
I had a feeling that back sources through AAU programs and things or that nature would probably be leaking it, so before I went to bed, I checked the UK sites to make sure it wasn’t leaking. I honestly thought either Zag, who has a good relationship w/ Torrel or Chris Fisher, with the ESPN affiliation, would get it somehow. When I checked their site it said “UK is getting a big visitor” as the headline. I knew this HAD to be Tobias’ stuff getting linked and it pissed me off both that I wasn’t getting to break the news I was waiting patiently (and it was VERY HARD)to break all day and that his father’s request to keep it secret was obviously being broken by someone along the chain.
I then posted my story, that guy commented in the comment section, I called him and told him to quit leaving little notes for me in the comments and to call me in the future if he had a problem and I even told him that I would forward the text so he could see the date and time and know that I hadn’t even read his post. I tried to read it to make sure it was about Tobias but I can’t because I don’t have a working username and password, just the old one from when I worked there that he banned. He didn’t care to see the text and just acted completely immature about it.
I went back and forth on making the post. Even taking it down once because I didn’t know what the correct thing to do was. Since it was already out there, I just went ahead with it and explained everything to Torrel early this morning. So, it is true that I didn’t break the story but it is absolutely false that I would steal information.

When are you going to learn that you can’t argue with stupid people? You could give countless examples of what really happened, but it won’t matter. It’s like the preacher that thinks every guy his daughter dates is a bad seed, when in reality, the daughter is just a whore. You make their day any time you reply to their ignorant rants, and you give them meaning by even acknowledging them. They are bottom-feeders, and nobody cares what their views are. Thye only come here to rile up the masses, because that site they pay for doesn’t have enough j-holes to fill their D&D talk.

Maggard doesn’t realize he is not the only one to get information. He automatically assumes he is the only one. It boils down to the decision to charge for info. Because Maggard charges he is paranoid about info he gets getting out to people who don’t pay. Dustin, Matt and others on KSR get info from probably some of the same direct sources. Maggard does not hold a monopoly on relationships with parents or coaches of recruits. He did have a relationship with a former UK assistant but now that we have a new staff that has changed. As a result guys at KSR are not concerned about the general public getting the info because they are not charging. Maggards is a victim of his own desire to have and disperse information. His paranoia will continue as long as he charges money. Information will continue to get out to the general public and when it does he will cry foul. I am sure Maggard will continue to try to find a leak and will ban people left and right.

I really respect Dustin and the professional way he approaches writing for KSR. However, this time I
disagree with how Dustin handled the situation. From his post (#26) he stated that he struggled with
whether or not to release his information after it had been released elsewhere. In my opinion, he should
have kept his word to Mr. Harris and not have written anything until he had heard from Mr. Harris. Even though
this would have cost Dustin the noterity associated with releasing the story first, he would have shown that
his word was solid, even at a cost. That is when your word really means something. In one sense
I can understand Dustin’s actions. But, in my opinion, he would have gained much more credability if he had
taken the high road.

I think the whole Brandon Knight visiting and getting them to post that (even though they said it was unconfirmed) ticked them off and are deleting his posts on here. All it said was that he broke it before either MM or Dustin. That’s why my post told him to quit being a douche. It just sucks that he is being deleted because aside from the info he usually does have good bball conversations.

I’m sort of a newbie in here only reading it for only the last 4 months, and when it came to payout money for the info about a recruit, well I thought better of it b/c I’m on a pension and my money is destined for the vital things in my life, beer,wild women, ect. But in essence, 99% of you guys in here really flipping ROCK! I always thought I kept up with recruitment and things but folks like Save, Dustin, Matt, (sorry I can’t remember alot of you) I have never been more informed about UK sports in my 60 years. I guess this all stands about some dude in TBK broke the news about Tobias comming in for a visit? WTFC, if he was supposed to keep it a secret, he’s an untrust worthy “TOOL”..Dustin you’re the man for keeping your word. I wouldn’t worry about it..LOL Just keep me informed thanks to all

I was disappointed in the decision as it pertains to Dwight especially. But it is his call and I understand some of the reasoning. I do wish he had let Dwight finish his last year, but it looks like Dwight is ok with it and if he is, then I certainly have no reason to complain

As for Dustin - I think he does an excellent job for KSR and he’s a heck of a good guy, as well. My thoughts on this situation:
- how is it stealing “premium” information if he spoke to the kid’s dad?
- I check out both TBK and KSR and enjoy both sites, but aren’t we all UK fans? I mean, I started my blog because I love the sport of basketball and the state of Kentucky. I work tirelessly making calls, sending e-mails, texting and doing all that I can to promote the sport in our state; I get enjoyment out of doing something I love. I can tell that guys like Matt and Dustin have a love for the game and the UK family; I don’t get that same feeling from several others
- Every site/blog is different - they all have a different feel and they all appeal to different audiences; it is what it is - you can’t please everyone, but the numbers don’t lie; take a look at the traffic statistics for all the sites; the data is there, just check it out; Matt, I’ve never met you or discussed basketball with you, but you do a great job with this site; Dustin does a great job with what he does; MM does a great job of going down and checking out all the recruiting events, etc.

I’m not saying they had Matt remove any posts or anything, but I can say that they are aware of most of the sits. I spoke to Peevey through e-mail and he was very nice. It’s a long story, but he told me my article was fine and that I needed to make no changes.

i don’t think save is writing for another site, he is just posting stuff. pretty much the same u do here, he just doesn’t get hated on for it. and doesn’t get deleted, we all can do what he is doing on there, he is not a writer.
