Just three weeks ago, UK was just another schools trying to get involved in the recruitment of the summer’s hottest commodity, 6-7 forward Tobias Harris. His father, Torrel Harris, felt that with a school of Kentucky’s history and with a coach of John Calipari’s stature, you had to take a closer look. Today, the Harris family got that closer look and it seems like the Cats have made up a lot of ground with the New York prospect.
“They definitely improved their status with me. I got see [the program] more and see what it was all about and that’s why we came, ” Tobias explained.
In order to lure in any top prospect, a school must really show all of their major selling points and Tobias and his family seemed to get the royal treatment from the coaching staff while in Lexington. “I talked to Coach Calipari, seen all the facilities, took a tour of the campus, talked to some of the players and got to meet the academic advisors and all the people in the program basically.”
One familiar face Tobias noticed while on his visit was that of UK’s former top recruit and another former hot name from the AAU circuit. “I knew John Wall because we were on the same team at Reebok U. two years ago,” he said. Demarcus Cousins also greeted the Harris family in Lexington. The facilities and the fans are always big selling points for any recruit that UK is trying to attract and while describing what really stuck out to him on the visit, one could tell that this was point was not lost on Tobias, who said, “The facilities are all top of the line. The campus is nice and they have good fan support. They’ve got a great program.”
From here, Tobias and his family plan on sitting down and trimming his list of schools, most likely toward the end of August. When asked whether UK would make that cut, Tobias said, “[I] don’t want to put any school ahead of others right now but I got to see a lot more about UK today.”
Tobias’ next stop will be at the Nike Global Challenge, which will take place August 7th-9th at Liberty High School in Hillsboro, Oregon.

#4. Jerry Meyer from Rivals.com said Tobias will be a Top 15 player in the next recruit ratings. Easily puts him at a mid level 5* recruit. Post something on Catpause about it and as usual there ticked becuase they didnt get to to talk to Tobias so they deleted the thread!

Dustin don’t mind Maggot and his crew, you are giving the same info for free out of your own time and not necessarily making a living off us fans, as he is. You have been on top of the recruiting game all summer while FrostedFlakes was advertising himself as the premier UK scout while being in Germany fetching Billy G his newest recruit out of Nigeria who couldn’t even get a visa and the other part of the time in vacation in Mexico drinking diarrhea-infested water and eating only the freshest Mexican swine. 12) If I remember correctly, Eric Bledsoe was met by all of Memphis’s media outlets when he went there for his visit. He was the leading story on the prime-time newscast that night and they didn’t get into any trouble. Long story short…FU<k OFF and let Dustin do his damn thing!!

#14 - The Memphis interviews (Bledsoe, Sallie etc) were done at the Airport Hotel off campus. If Dustin did the interview on campus UK must report this as a violation.

I saw Harris in 2 games at the Orlando AAU tourneys. Was the best total player I saw and there were some good ones. He was very smooth and lacked the attitude so many young star players have. Jumper from 3 looked like it could use some tweaking but that was not his game anyway, though he can make it and did. Really hope UK gets him, seemed like a quality person.

UK compliance office still has asked many times for people not to conduct interviews with recruits while they are visiting, even if it is off campus.
That is disrespectful to the university. Which is fine but I hope Dustin never hopes to get anything from the University. I know Matt Jones has been begging for those credentials. I guess he can kiss that chance good bye

SoCal–You have made it very clear your feelings about Sandy Bell so you know if she even sniffs wrong doing she is going to report it.
As for Dustin, it appears that most of his conversations have been with the father and from what I understand, they came in last night and getting out of town quickly. It is likely that the father contacted Dustin after they left which would be no violation.
I understand your concern but believe you are being a bit hypersensitive on this matter.
Damn shame SaveUK is not present, we would be up to 247 comments by now if he were on here.

Is it just me or does this young man seem to be of the same cut as Patrick and Daniel? Both his parents are very involved and seem like the want not only the best basketball school but education for their child. I know it is usually a dUKe fixation there but, it does seem like the academic front has helped out Kentucky greatly in recent years.

It’s rather easy to see from Harris’ comments that the interview
was conducted after his visit to the campus. His quotes clearly
show he was speaking in the PAST TENSE. I’m sure

I have NO idea what part of “don’t read it if you don’t like it” you didn’t get…. the problem is that I was dead serious about not wanting to hear complaints.

In the interest of a balanced discussion. MM’s primary beef seems to be a concern that others are stealing information from his site and claiming it as their own.
From a business standpoint I could see where someone would be offended if he thought his product was being stolen and then rebranded as original by someone else.
From a consumer standpoint most of us are going to go with whatever costs less.
I don’t know, nor really care where Dustin got his info but I can kind of see where MM is coming from as it is his livelyhood. Although I think he takes a huge PR hit for his attitude.

56) His attitude is the real issue here. Not just with this, but in general. MM has to be one of the most unprofessional people I’ve ever seen. Someone on here said he’s 45, and a cringe if that’s true. Sad state of affairs when 45 year olds act like he does. Nowhere in Dustin’s report did it say where or how he conducted the interview — maybe it was there earlier, but not now — but MM is getting the info from somewhere that it was done on campus. How hard would it be for DR to say “I talked with Mr. Harris at Bluegrass Airport” or “we talked on the phone after they got home”.
Whether you like it or not, it matters b/c if it was conducted on campus, it’s a violation.

Beisner, I’m not sure what you’re talking about, but I’ve never meant to insult anyone. My apologies to Dustin if I did. I only asked for him to say where/how he did the interview. That would settle this issue once and for all.
I’ve only been around here for a month or so. Never met Dustin, hadn’t even heard of Maggard or visited his site until I saw you guys talking about him here. Not a paying member anywhere.
And yes, I saw the furor here over Maggard’s comments, saw the quote that Fisherman provided, so I went there to read it for myself. The way it was quoted in #50, I couldn’t figure out who “NJ, Greg” was since there was no previous post here by that person. Then I realized it was quoted from somewhere else. My curiousity told me to go read it for myself. That’s when I noticed that Fisherman had only included part of the quote from MM. Wondered why. What he cut out was pretty insulting, so that’s why I asked.
Not trying to fan any flames. In fact, I think the rivalry between KSR and TBK is pretty childish. I’ve not seen name-calling like that from both sides since I was in middle school.

I’m sorry, but this is all pretty ridiculous. Dustin is a
well-reputed professional whose information is used by other
media outlets and other people in his field. I don’t know Dustin, nor will
I probably ever meet the guy.
What I do know is he has pretty much provided what I find to be
some of the best scouting information on potential UK players as well as
others.
I really don’t understand WTF is so important about him clarifying anything
to anyone. The guy (I will assume on his own dime) has traveled the countryside
scouting potential bad a** bball players and he has done so for the
benefit of UKs fanbase.
Now, thinking logically, would a guy who has a very clear understanding
of the recruiting process, journalismm, and a love of UK bball going
to risk a violation solely to interview a recruit on campus?

As to MM, that guy is the biggest asshat on the internet - hands down. I went to his site to check out what the fuss was about. I came away disgusted and can’t believe there are idiots over there who give that clown money. I wouldn’t give Maggard a dime if I saw him panhandling on the street.
I’ve never seen someone act in the manner he does and claim to be “professional.” One poster simply disagreed in a respectful adult like manner, and Marc came back with the “you aren’t cut out to post here you are banned,” mantra.

88: I can assure you that after observing Maggard around the current UK staff that the closest he gets is standing next to them. Thats all he does at events is lurk behind people hoping to hear something which is why his breaking info from Orlando was that Cal told Donovan about wings. The staff has been told not to talk to him and the next conversation they have will be the first. Also why a random pic of him leaning behind Cal showed up on the internet. Because he has ZERO relationship with any of them. Also its a lie that Dustin was in the stands at any event. Maggard made that up.

He was actually talking to them instead of posting a pic everytime he happens to find himself close to someone important, like MJ.

Please link these pictures where the staff was talking with him. I have a site that competes with both Dustin and Marc somewhat so I attend the events. I know for a fact that no one on that staff has engaged him at either of the TWO - count them two - events he bothered to show up to. I also know that after the disaster he created in two years of Gillispie that every member of that staff knows not to engage with him.

bottom line.
It is 100% true Dustin wanted to work for TBK and MM, there was a reason for that, they are better. He wasn’t good enough, therefore he goes here as a last resort.
It is 100% true that this site isn’t actually a site that is informative and gives a better idea of who has a chance to get who. This site does not have the personell to make this site like that, which is why they try to take an entertainment approach. It’s not hard to figure out why other sites don’t do that, b/c they don’t have to use entertainment to hide the fact they are irrelevent.

My main point is that what he is saying and doing in regards to Dustin is despicable. Its a case of him trying to tear another person down instead of building a better product. False. Dustin worked for Roundball for a month and gave Marc a scoop on Bledsoe that he said was wrong so Dustin posted it on his personal site. It turned out right and Marc was furiuos and told Dustin not to write anything for him anymore. That is well documented.
What information have you gotten from Maggard’s site lately? I’ll ask that.
Also I am not a premium member. I just enjoy how his idiot brigade is so open about dispersing their passwords and info. You want to listen to the audio blog? Type in “insiders” for the username and then “blue” for the password.

It’s not my job to surf the net trying to prove a point to some loser. I’ve seen them, thats all that matters. I’ve also been using the internet for a few years now and I’ve come to the conclusion MM has better info. than others sites, namely this one. B$ he went premium TBK was hands down the best free site. now that thereis a premium side the info has gotten better and to satisfy needs the free side has to take a hit. But that doesn’t change the fact that he is more of an insider than anyone here. I guarantee the name Maggard is more popular than this whole site combined. He gets paid $$$ for what he does, surely coaches of teams aren’t so stupid they give away their money to some clueless person. stop sippin on the hateraid. If you’re not a premium member, how are you justifying how great the premium info is? I’ll tell you waht it is. It’s what Dustin reported yesterday and a bunch of the links taken off of this website.
Maggard gets paid by no one of consequence. He gets paid by families of $hitty players that he pawns off on schools. He killed the UK program by doing that. And if you think his site is more popular, you need to go check out Alexa. His site is set up to gain hits by not showing the full article or making you jump from page to page. It still gets 1/3 that this site gets.
He is a failure and a con. You’re an idiot for falling for it. Everhything I’ve said is true and everyone on the internet that you’ve been “surfing for a few years now” knows it. That’s why he’s spiraling out of control and spending all day bragging about moderating comments. Comments that tell the truth about his con? Most likely.

I don’t post at the catspause nor do I have an account there. I glance over there every now and then, and I come here b/c the page comes up fast and I can check if there has been a commitment or huge news that everyone just found out. If there is nothing then occasionally I will look at the links to other sites, but thats it. I know that nothing I learned here will help me see who we have a good shot at. Just on the free side at TBK i get a good feeling on who we get.
