More Leonard Washington…….

by @ 1:20 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

leonardwashington200_3.jpeg

On Thursday, we told you the news that Leonard Washington would be going to high school in 2008. I heard this from the individual who has continually been giving me Washington information. In addition, Mike Decoursey of the Sporting News (one of the best in the business) reported the same thing after talking with Leonard and his handlers for a story. This news confirmed what most had been telling me from the day this started (that Washington could not qualify) and to me, was a blessing. Now there are some sources suggesting that Washington and his crew may be changing their story and telling folks that he still can get eligible for next year. As with everything Washington related, the truth is unclear and who knows what will ultimately happen. I still dont see Washington at UK in 07, but stranger things have happened I guess.

Now, here is a video, shot by Steve John of Kentucky Sports Report, that shows Leonard throwing a VICIOUS elbow to Courtney Fortson, another UK target. We of course dont know what they were saying to each other, etc…..but the video shows a bit of why Leonard is a target that has some baggage.

Get ‘em CBC. We NEED this kid! An enforcer…and oh yeah. 1st.

  2. Define Irony Says:

He gonna knock Kriss Kross out the box ‘cuz he’s gonna be upside down.

  3. 555 Says:

that kid is such a punk. he’ll end up playing hoops for the california penal league

    1st

  4. boweevul Says:

Patterson is the type of enforcer we need. Plays hard and physical. Only a punk trash talks then throws a nasty elbow during a timeout on a player that is about 5′10″. We don’t need punks!

  5. zcats Says:

I don’t think that was VICIOUS. It was stupid and a technical foul but there was something going on the entire trip down the court that the refs should have broken up. You must have never seen Larry Stamper play for UK.

  6. Bo Diddly Says:

Maybe they were arguing over who gets to play at UofK !!!!!!!

  7. bjove Says:

that was a cheapshot. is that what we want? a cheapshot artist.

  8. Fred Durst Says:

Im sure eveyone here knows MM form that other recruiting site is the 1 that MAtt has issues with..and Im on the side of MAtt in regards to Washington. Maggard has this ‘holier than thou’ persona stroking his ego and frankly..MM is wrong far more than Matt or Rob in regards to things they here or see. Taking this kid and his baggage would be a grave mistake in my opinion. LEt him play for a Pac 10 team and about 1 year from now we will all be reading an article about LW being dismissed from his team for breaking team rules….just say no coach!

  9. Anonymous Says:

LOL it didn’t even phase Fortson, tough little guy I like him hope he comes to UK forget Washington we don’t need another baby

  10. Honest Abe Says:

That was really stupid elbowing him in the face. I don’t want this kid.

  11. Alan Says:

We have too many good players we are looking at for ‘08 to waste a scholarship on this guy.

  12. TubbyCAT Says:

What a JOKE! If Billy G. signs this guy he will lose a lot of credit w/me! That is ridiculous!

  13. wildcatstrat Says:

After seeing that, I REALLY hope that we don’t get this kid. That’s the kind of stuff that you expect to see Tennessee players do.

  14. Crawfords Corner Says:

We want this butthole? I have heard way to many stories about this kid. If we take him at Kentucky, I will not watch any minute of any game that POS plays in. I sure would hate to miss 8 minutes a game, but that will be my own personal protest whether it matters or not.

  15. catsfor8 Says:

Pass. He could easily be a Dennis Rodman or Ron Artest waiting to happen.

Seems to have patterns of behavior that he can’t break.

  16. M. Vick Says:

Matt, are you ever going to explain why Maggard isn’t posting his “insider” info. on here anymore? Are you guys at odds, or is it only your information that can’t get on the same page as each other?

  17. Tim Says:

When I read about it I thought the elbow was a heat-of-the-moment, under-the-basket move, rather than a Parthian cheap-shot on a guy eight inches shorter than him. I’m inclined to think he’d be more trouble than he’s worth. Still, I’ll defer to BiG, and if he feels he can straighten Washington out, then I’m for it.

  18. Beatle Bum Says:

That is a cheap shot. The ole walk-away-elbow-to-the-face move. That is weak, regardless of what was said. If someone says something that is so awful that you want to mix it up, then look them in the eye and bring it. Don’t try to sneak it in. Cheap.

  19. Biggass Hunngguy Says:

Stay away from Washington, he is another Rashaad Carruth type waiting to happen. Think about this guy giving a cheap shot to somebody like that wearing a UK uniform, or quiting on the team in the middle of a game. He is nothing but trouble.

  20. Biggass Hungguy Says:

    nm

  21. Jaxalum Says:

The guy is obviously a punk. That was a snake-in-the-grass maneuvor.

  22. Shaffer Says:

That video just gives me even more reason not to want that guy at UK. He wouldn’t be able to keep up his grades or behave off the court. And who knows what a head case like that will give you on the court or do to team chemistry. Just keep the scholarship and get an ‘08. I don’t feel too bad about our team this year anyhow. So, let’s just keep positives going and continue to build. GO CATS!!!

  23. uofkcats Says:

Kind of wanted LW at UK but now I hope he never steps foot in Lexington. Kid is a punk THUG. Maybe he should go to UofL and play football, he fit right in. That is if he is apart of the same Southern Florida Gang that half the DUHVILLE football players are apart of.

  24. B. King Says:

Hell no…That kid is NOT going to UK!

  25. Not Karl Hess Says:

Did none of you see Fortson elbow him first at :57 seconds? I dont get how everyone on here ignores that. I dont see anything wrong with this guy at all. he doesnt like to be elbowed. me neither.

  26. Mark Maggard Says:

    #8 STFU

  27. Deebo Says:

What a bunch of sissies. I’m sure you all loved Magloire when he was here. I’m tired of getting abused, time to get someone in here with a little attitude and intimidation. BCG will keep him in line. Stop watching one minute internet clips and acting like you all know everything. We need his help this year. Bring on LW!!!

  28. RBlue Says:

Everyone has been wanting someone who doesn’t take shit and be an enforcer. Our team has been weak lately. Take a chance with him he can score inside. Besides PP we don’t have anyone who can score inside like him. If he gets into trouble Coach G can recruit someone else.

  29. Deebo Says:

^ Thank you for seeing the light. Good post.

  30. JB_10 Says:

I disagree with people about Leonard Washington.
It seems like whenever we don’t get someone like Washington, we all of a sudden didn’t want him in the first place (just like Lucas).

I have seen him play. He is good. We need someone as physical as him.

Just look at the video before he elbows him. He takes it in strong. That is how he plays.
We could have used him this year … no matter what anyone says!

  31. Jerry Sexton Says:

I agree # 30! The kid can play and there is not nothing wrong with toughness.if you cant handel that part of the game then it’s over for you.We need the toughness of a young kid.The teams have been soft over the last few years.

  32. Mattcat Says:

It’s one thing to be tough, it’s quite another to take cheap shots. This guy plays dirty, and can’t control his emotions. I want someone tough also, but one who can remain under control.

This is not someone I would want to see wearing a UK Jersey. I actually thought Fortson showed more toughness than Washington. Washington took a cheap shot and walked off, that’s not freakin’ toughness, that’s cowardice. Fortson is the one who took the shot, didn’t back down and pushed Washington back. He’s the guy who didn’t take any sh!t.

  33. zcats Says:

Matt, I thought you were a journalist. This report has a bit of an agenda. Why don’t you let Coach recruit the players. Was this the only 2 minutes the kid played the entire summer? If he wanted to hurt Fortson he would have knocked him into next week. That was a tap. Again Magloire, Verderber, Hurt, Pratt, Guyette, Stamper, Robey and a lot of other former Wildcats had moments like this during the heat of battle. Fortson stayed up in his face and obviously something was going on. The refs should have noticed this or maybe it didn’t look this bad from another angle. I am not condoning it but it is not a reason to dump a good player.

  34. MM101 Says:

People, you can’t have it both ways at the same time. Washington retaliated for what Fortson did at 57 seconds and got caught. Any of you guys ever see James Lee play. Well, LW is a larger version of James Lee. He was a part of the class that was NCAA Runner up in 75, NIT Champs in 76, NCAA Regional Finals in 77 & NCAA Champions in 78. Would I take a player like that?………YEP, any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

  35. Nark Naggard Says:

The dude deserved to get elbowed, he was sitting there elbowing Washington. Thats what we need, type of player that isnt a wussy and wont get pushed around, we need some toughness.

  36. Chuck Norris Says:

    35) Tough talkin a guy on an internet message board takes a lot of guts–you are a cheap shot artist just like LW.

  37. Chuck Norris Says:

Chuck Hayes was a tough player but you did not see him elbowing people who got under his skin after a little shit talkin. It is funny how people confuse being tough with being a hot headed, douche bag.

  38. Ransmith Says:

Chuck Hays, Winston Bennet, Rick Robey, James Lee, those guys were good physical players, enforcers when needed. But this kid is not an enforcer, he is nothing but a “PUNK” and I pray he never steps foot on the court with a UK uniform!

  39. bigdavepistons22 Says:

i haven’t wanted this guy the whole time. nice to be re-assured that he’s not worth it. so many people were saying that he didn’t have that much baggage.

  40. tdr76 Says:

On KentuckyInc.com Marc (new podcast)covers both incidents were Washington was ejected in Vegas this past
weekend. He says that Washington really did not deserve to be ejected from either game and suggested that
their was a bias against Washington’s team. He says that Washington is a tremendous talent and does not
deserve all the negative coverage by the media.

I personally believe that Marc does a wonderful job for all Kentucky fans and I appreicate all the folks who
cosistently get the news out to the Blue Nation.

I would love to see Washington in Blue but we will not
know if he will qualify until mid-August when the NCAA clearing house makes it’s decison.

  41. d1ja Says:

Matt, did Mike Decoursey report the Washington 08 status after talking to LWs people? Or did he get his info from a google search, which led him to the info on FULLCOURTPRESS as Decoursey states in his Sporting News article?

  42. Beatle Bum Says:

    Does Virginia use the Multi-State?

  43. d1ja Says:

I wonder if we would have been called Kitty Kats last year of LW was on the team? I think not!!!

  44. d1ja Says:

    ^ if

  45. Matt Jones Says:

Not sure….I will try and talk to Mike.

Multi-state is on Virginia….but it only lasts for three years and I am four years out

  46. Anonymous Says:

i wish we had this dude last year so he could hit joakim noah in his mouth

  47. trueblue Says:

I would rather have fortson. LW looks like bad news to me.

  48. Define Irony Says:

Next time I want to make a Fear of a Black Hat reference I’m just going to save it.

  49. Crazy Cat Says:

What an a-hole, man. Glad to know what type of kid he really is. Matt has been alluding to it this whole time, and kudos to you, Matt for not bad-mouthing the kid but giving enough information for people to see what he’s really like. Like him or leave him–leave him in my book.

  50. jasonnky32 Says:

i think we should give him a chance. He would really help out the team especially this year since all they will have on the low blocks is pp. we will have one of the best back courts in the country and to add him plus pp and 3 guards that has elite 8 written all over it if not better. Granted he would need to stay out of trouble. I think bg could keep him in line. I would tell him up front u do any of ur antics on of off the court u will be off of the team. He is too much of a talent to not give a chance to. If he doesn’t work out, get someone else to replace him. He was provoked and retaliated to fortson. That was not a smart thing to do, but shows he will not take crap from anyone and opponents players will be intimitated of him. As someone said above too bad we do not have him last year when we played florida. Noah called us the kitty cats. Noah would not want any part of lw. U get a good center for 08 plus him and pp that would be an awesome front line. Whatever happens with him, we will be just fine with all of the top recruits that I think we will eventually sign.

  51. RexEffect Says:

this is the kind of player we have been lacking for awhile, a little bit of intimidation
never heart anyone..bradley was complaining last year cause we have no one to stand up for the
team…..i dont want a punk, but i say we give this dude a chance….put a little “wild”
    back in the cat!!!!!

  52. Define Irony Says:

And when he decks somebody we can hand out Fight Club DVD’s at the next home game!

    Everybody wins.

  53. Iowa Big Blue Says:

while the elbow incident is regretable, I don’t think this in of its self is
sufficient to make such rash judgments of this kid. Last night when I read this
kid was off to California for another year I felt a part of the up-coming
season was lost. We nead a beast on the front line to hit those offensive
rebounds. I firmly believe that Billy Clyde will be able to handle this
young man if we are fortunate enough to get him for the 07-08 team. We need
someone to spell PP if he gets in foul trouble. I say bring him on and help
us get deep into the tournament next March.

  54. SoCal Will Says:

In BCG’s three perimeter two post offense Washington could be our first inside scoring option. He could start a featured “one and done ” position in 07, then Monroe in 08, Cousins or Sidney in 09, ad infinitum….

  55. Michael J Says:

ZERO mental toughness. Conveniently cheap shots someone half his size. How’s he going to respond when a Tyler Hansbrough or Derrick Caracter is eating his lunch? Save the scholarship!

  56. Cat Toe Says:

    Magliore
