It is unbelievably early and I am sitting in for Scott Padgett on the Dave and Scott Show. But as I scanned the headlines, I did have to report that Jai Lucas is back! According to Lucas in the Herald Leader today, Kentucky is one of the schools that Lucas has placed on his transfer list. No word as to what the other options are…..but it looks like the Lucas watch may be back on!

Please no.
November 12th, 2008 at 7:15 am
I say why not? I thought he looked good at Florida. Something funny is going on down in Florida. Donovan caught lightning in a bottle with his two wins and running everything through Calathes will be the downfall of the Gaytors this year. That’s right, I just cursed them. You can’t have enough good point guards and think about this, if Lucas sits out this year, maybe, JUST MAYBE, Patrick Patterson might stay ANOTHER year just to play with him. Never know. Something to think about.
November 12th, 2008 at 7:25 am
He should of signed here first then! PASS!!!!
November 12th, 2008 at 7:35 am
Lucas could never take the starting spot from Porter. BCG said so.
November 12th, 2008 at 7:35 am
Why not? Because we have Liggins, Porter, KG, GJ coming in next season, KC Ross Miller the year after…thats why not.
November 12th, 2008 at 7:36 am
Matt Jones 7:39am just admitted that he was the original king of Jorts as a kid.
November 12th, 2008 at 7:39 am
I really do not think Jai is the answer here. Do we really want UF seconds?
November 12th, 2008 at 7:47 am
Wonder why my comments are deleted….guess because IM not coming back…..need to keep politics off these boards….bye
November 12th, 2008 at 7:52 am
Notice that he’s the same height as the jockey?
November 12th, 2008 at 7:54 am
Hey #7, do you think taking Hampton’s “seconds” was a good move for Kentucky? What about USC’s “seconds?” And when Derek Anderson transfered to Kentucky, was that taking THE Ohio Suck University’s “seconds?” But then again, none of those “seconds” have worked out very good for Kentucky, huh?
November 12th, 2008 at 7:55 am
Why is Lucas dressed in silks and goggles?
November 12th, 2008 at 7:58 am
Actually, Lucas is shorter than the jockey. Patrick’s right hand is lifting Jai by the rear belt.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:03 am
No offense Jai but you would be in the same position here that you were in Florida. Playing behind a taller point guard. Good luck to you.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:25 am
Why don’t all you “coaches” let Billy Clyde figure out if we need Jai or not?
November 12th, 2008 at 8:25 am
i would like to have him…reasons:
1) he is faster than any other pg we have and prolly would be fastest on the team
2) is a different type of point guard. just another dimension that teams will have to prepare for
3) add’s more competition to the pg spot
November 12th, 2008 at 8:27 am
look at P.Pats face and overall body language!!
looks to me like patterson is straight representing, like “who’s this dude thinks he is?”
Lucas was, as we call them, just a BUST recruit
November 12th, 2008 at 8:32 am
Who thinks the gaytors would actually grant a release to go to a SEC school, esp UK? i doubt it.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:50 am
vilarino > lucas
November 12th, 2008 at 8:52 am
He wants to come to Lexington, so he can be a jockey after his basketball days are over. If he plays his cards right, some of the big horse farm owners may get him on the inside track to one of the big trainers who has a derby hopefull. ; - )
November 12th, 2008 at 8:57 am
OMG!!!… this just in
Lucas and Jasper were double tappin the dance team pillow biter. You know the one with the best oyster in LexVegas.
Lucas is transferring out to UNLV and he will show her he can start over Derrick to win her for good.
Amazing!
November 12th, 2008 at 8:58 am
Isn’t GJ supposed to be extremely fast. I thought that was one of his specialties.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:09 am
#17 you are dead on; Lucas will never play for UK. Donovan ain’t gonna allow it. He would do well in a Billy Gillespie system but it won’t happen.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:12 am
More Lucas speculation? Vomit.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:22 am
#17 and #22 I think Billy D will be an ass about it and not let him go to UK. If he does and BGC wants him then come and join the next UK championship team.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:22 am
14) Why dont you let Richie Farmer have his own Mustache?
November 12th, 2008 at 9:30 am
25) Why don’t you let your parents have their basement back?
November 12th, 2008 at 9:36 am
NERD FIGHT!!!
November 12th, 2008 at 9:41 am
Patterson is not smiling in the photo, I really dont like the chances of him coming to UK. Any 7-foot Euros or Jucos out there for a backup plan?
November 12th, 2008 at 9:46 am
I really dont think we need him now. Liggins is the man of the future. I think he is better than Lucas at seeing the floor and getting the ball where it needs to be. No reason to not have him on the court and have Lucas. BUT Lucas does have him on the points side of it. I just dont think BCG wants him now.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:49 am
I would just stay with Liggins and GJV and get someone else after. BGC likes the long athletic players and Lucas is too short for that…But who knows…
November 12th, 2008 at 9:49 am
at the center of it all (as pictured above)
AJ STEW-ART!
November 12th, 2008 at 9:54 am
From the Herald-Leader: “The University of Kentucky’s favorite starlet, Ashley Judd, made an offer to students at the University of North Carolina: If Barak Obama carries North Carolina in the presidential election, she would sit in the student section at the UK-North Carolina basketball game. The Raleigh News and Observer reports that she will be at the game on Tuesday.”
I’m crushed. On two levels. She sold out to UNC…for Obama.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:56 am
Ordinarily I would say pass, but Lucas was recruited for so long that it almost feels like the prodigal son returning if he xferred here.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:58 am
8.1 pts/gm
2.5 assts/gm
1.7 reb/gm
46% from the floor
43% from 3 land
71% from the FT line
Above are the stats for Jai. My impression of him from the start was that he might be a bit too short and an average player at best. That beings said, if he could lure PP to UK then I welcomed him. Well, we wound up with the right guy so there is no need for Jai now. I think that GJ would be able to put the type of numbers above and play better defense.
Just my two “sense” worth. If BCG thinks Jai can fit into the plans, then I will welcome him. (Psst, BCG. You can do better, I just know you can)
November 12th, 2008 at 9:59 am
Come on Matt, I thought you boycotted the H-L.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:59 am
32 as long as she is wearing the right color blue, I can live with it.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:02 am
you know good and well she will have he right color blue on!
November 12th, 2008 at 10:07 am
THINK before you start bashing LUCAS!
Put your personal feelings aside for a sec and think about this objectivly
Why not take Jai? He is a proven SEC PG and we could always use some PG depth.
What is the best that could happen? Well he could come in and compete for a starting
spot and win it. In that case we be happy we have him, always better to upgrade
What is the worst that could happen? Well he could come in and compete for a starting
spot and lose it. In that case - not bad having a guy like Lucas coming off your bench.
Not to many teams would have a player like Lucas as a backup.
So I’ll just let Gillispie decide if he wants Lucas or not
November 12th, 2008 at 10:10 am
Porter will be a senior next year and we don’t know if Liggins will stay past his
soph year.
So why not take Lucas just in case? If Liggins stays three years - Great then we have
Liggins/Lucas/and GJ - that is pretty damn good PG depth. If Liggins leaves after next season
the we be happy to have Lucas and GJ, in fact we will still need another PG
November 12th, 2008 at 10:15 am
39. if he stays 3 years, we have
Liggins
Lucas
GJ
KC
thats stupid to have that many PGs, never thought I’d say that
November 12th, 2008 at 10:21 am
#40 to be fair I doubt that in 2010 Liggins will still be here.
So having
Lucas - who will have 1 year SEC experience and 1 year under Gillispie before he gets to play
GJ - who in 2010 will only be a soph
and
KC - who will only be a freshman
isn’t stupid
You will be the same person on here complaining when 2010 comes around and all we have is
GJ and KC
November 12th, 2008 at 10:25 am
If we can get him, take him! It would be stupid not to. Otherwise you’re counting on a guy who may not be here and two guys that aren’t even 4 star recruits. The stats above for Jai are pretty freakin good.
It’s stupid to get all wrapped up in emotions and not take a kid who could really help us out. If we still have Liggins in 2010 we can move him to the wing where he likes to play anyway. Since when can we have too many good guards!?! It’s not like we’ll be hurting on big guys.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:27 am
[...] So the rabid rowdies over at Kentucky Sports Radio are having a spirited debate about whether UK should pursue former recruit and now Florida transfer Jai Lucas, a debate sparked by our H-L’s mention this morning that Lucas has included Kentucky on his transfer list. [...]
November 12th, 2008 at 10:30 am
#42 good post
At the very worst, Lucas would be a 2nd or 3rd option at PG off the bench. How many teams
will have a 2nd or 3rd option at PG coming off the bench? Maybe a few, if any
November 12th, 2008 at 10:31 am
So who are the other teams on his list?
November 12th, 2008 at 10:39 am
Everyone’s projections about point guards assume that Liggins and Galloway stay academically eligible…
November 12th, 2008 at 10:40 am
He’s shorter than the jockey. Maybe he can ride at Keeneland in the off-season.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:06 am
If he wants to Walk On sure let him.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:14 am
#48 and he would have to walk on at UK due to the SEC transfer rule. So again, why not
take him? I would
November 12th, 2008 at 11:19 am
I think this speculation is the last distraction we need right at the start of what could be a great season.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:41 am
ZERO CHANCE he comes here.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:53 am
42. Who told you Liggins like to play wing? He’s likes to handle the ball, and that’s what he’ll do.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:55 am
i hope he comes..im always a fan of stocking up on mcdonalds all-americans
November 12th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
#40,just becuase they are point guards doesn’t mean they have to play point guard.
November 12th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Lucas can’t play at UK. Why you ask? Cause UK’s shorts are to damn long for him!
November 12th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
55- thats ok, the university can just save money by not having to buy him warmup pants
