[Moderated by Matt Jones]

The news is starting to leak on message boards and the like, so I did want to address it here. The folks at Cumulus Media, who own 93.9 The Ticket here in Louisville have decided to make a format change and are taking off ESPN radio and the local sports talk and instead putting on classic oldies radio (and no I am not kidding). Because of that, Scott and Dave, Bob and Will, Bozich and Zac, the Freak and Jody, Trevor and I will no longer be doing our shows on the station. It is a sad day for all of us, as we had just started to really move up in the ratings and the station had as cohesive and solid a lineup as at any point since I was involved. It is a sad day around the studios and tonight will be the last show we do with the station.
I will miss the chance to do radio every night and today really is a sad day for me and the others involved down there. This wont effect the blog and I am sure we will show up in some form somewhere else soon, but for now, it is a sad day at the KSR Compound and what once was 93.9 The Ticket.

Finally, the airwaves are safe.
J/K, that is truely a shame. Why don’t you do internet streams and podcasts for the time being?
November 18th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Matt, you guys could always do a webcast minus the paycheck from the radio station. I’ll really miss the show.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Damn, you got cumulused!
November 18th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
You should get on with Big Blue Sports. That way it could be you and whoever BtI,Beisner,Gidel and no Indiana or Loserville crap.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
WTF!?!!?!? Poor business decision on their part and a very sad day for everyone.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Yet another boneheaded decision in Louisville sports radio. Guess Tommy Turtleneck finally got his way, huh?
November 18th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
That phucking sux axxx!!! First Gidel leaves now this!!! What complete morons to play oldies music,No way in hell do I listen to the afternoon underdumbasses on 790.Matt only you can save us now, help us Obie One ur Our only hope!!
November 18th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Let’s be real…they sucked anyway for not streaming to Mac users. You can do better, and I have no doubt that you will!
November 18th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Some guy on ESPN called porter “Michael Poser”
GOOD NAME! LOL
November 18th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
That is terrible news.
One of the great things about living in Louisville is having a local sports radio station.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Sorry to hear that. I enjoyed streaming the show from here in Bowling Green and wish we had a show that good in these parts. Chin up though as I am sure you will land on your feet. Heres hoping this will lead to an even better endeavor for you and the others.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
The fairness doctrine rears its ugly head. If you talk too much about the Cats, then unfortunately you must be eliminated. I am surprised that they are going with the Oldies format, I thought for sure they would go with 90’s hip-hop to capture the UL gangster, thin beard, L shaped audience. Better luck Matt, I will look for you soon somewhere in the upper hundreds of the am radio dial.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
10) that was Steve Lavin..thought it was pretty funny
November 18th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
I’m with 12. Maybe you all can find something that will even get
on the air down here in BG.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
That is a terrible decision. It’s not like the market for oldies is underserved in the Louisville area.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
It must have been all that whining about the VMI loss. j/k
How did you expect to survive doing KY sports radio in the enemy’s market? Get a small studio and stream to a Lex station and your back in business.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
You guys should take over the radio station and make them broadcast your show, kind of like in the movie “Air Heads” when they take over the station for switching to soft rock. Maybe a large group of people will gather outside in support of you guys.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
The guys on 790 AM sound like angry 55 year old men who endlessly rant about Kragthorp.
November 18th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Does that mean I can go back to hating Kelsey and Rob Radio?
November 18th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
10. Speaking of mis-speaks, did any of you see the SEC preview show they
have on the ESPN channels, I don’t remember what the guys name was giving it, but
he said we had “Joey Crawford coming back this year”. How much
research did they have do for the show???
November 18th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
that sucks, now i’m forced to listen to Jim Rome…
November 18th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Sorry to hear this Matt, been enjoying the show and tune into the streaming whenever I could…with Lexington terrestrial sports call-in shows not worth tuning in for, not sure what I’ll do…not sure what the economics are behind the station managers decisions, but seems like a scenario I’ve seen way too many times, an attempt to cut costs (b/c I can’t fathom how this would increase revenues) instead of providing listeners the content they want and deserve…
November 18th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
I only got to listen to the show a few times, (the only times I got streaming to work). It was great. Just wish it was more accessible for us Mac users. Maybe go back to your roots and podcast?
November 18th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Mac users may want to check out http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv.htm. It helps sometimes but we just need to get Matt on the Radio Streaming on iTunes and we won’t have to worry about it.
November 18th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
C’mon. We’re UK fans. Matt, tell us who to contact and we will take care of the rest.
November 18th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
I want the old, real old podcasts back!! Those were some of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. The Marshall County hoopfest was hilarious, plus many more I can’t recall right now. Any chance of the site putting up the old pods so everyone who’s new can hear how you started???
November 18th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Vote UK. UNC is pulling away. Why is the blog not posting this?

Too much Bomani Jones?
November 18th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Will the various shows be moving back to AM? It used to be 1570 the zone, then 93.9 the ticket. Will it be going back to AM, or is Dougan Ryan (sp) closing up shop?
November 18th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
#28 I was looking at the state results for that poll and was amazed that we are even losing in the Razor’s home state of Alaska!
November 18th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Wow. That’s pretty f’n stupid.
November 18th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Man… that stinks…
November 18th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Matt… What does this do to a guy like Renshaw. Most of you guys with other jobs will be just fine. Do you foresee a new station picking up any of the current talkshow hosts? I will miss Renshaw and Sports Night.
November 18th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
28…good point.
Go vote people.
November 18th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
My condolences Matt, I know you all enjoyed doing the show. So, sounds like time to get another internet show of that type indepedently, the group of ya…altho surely you have talked about it…
November 18th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Sorry to hear that. Does that mean you lose your Press pass and status? I hope not.
November 18th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
I bet Scott and Dave will now go to 790. They tried to go there a few months ago
but it was blocked by Dugan Ryan.
Also, the UofL boards are saying Tom Jurich pulled 93.9’s press credentials
and he has something to do with 93.9 going off the air. Not sure if it’s true.
November 18th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
SCREW Jurich and the hold he has on this town.
He should be more secure in his accolades than to do this crap.
His own fans are turning on Kragcooper as they should.
Jurich is a 2 bit power monger that likes to throw hissy fits and get his way.
Matt and the guys deserved better.
November 18th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
Matt, that seriously stinks.
November 18th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Sorry to hear the bad news Matt.
November 18th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
Looks like Big Brother Cumulous just cut The Freak off mid-show. He told a nice story today about how Jurich pulled his press pass b/c he predicted UL would lose to Pitt.
Screw Jurich, his star is fading fast. Hubris boys, it’ll catch up to anyone.
November 18th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
Hey what just happened to the rest of the Renshaw?
November 18th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
WHAT? who can i complain to? you have a number for these people? this is the only station i listen to any more. F’n oldies? what?
November 18th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
This really stinks Matt!! There are just as many, if not more, UK fans here in the Louisville area that Loserville. TJ knows it, and he can’t stand it.
November 18th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
Juck Furich!!
November 18th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
Matt, I know this seems sad to you all, but this really opens your options business-wise. I think you could get into some more UK-only oriented stuff…..always a market for that in Kentucky
November 18th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
This is as bad as when Adrian Cronaeur was kicked off the air by Lt. Hauk; okay maybe not as bad. I realize its gonna be an oldies station, but I bet ole tommy j will try and get his polka on.
November 18th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
that blows. as long as you’re still having fun doing it, you’ll find a way -i have no doubt.
November 18th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
As Nelson from the Simpsons would say, “Ha Ha!”. Nah, just trying to make you laugh Matt. Corporate America can suck it.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
That’s sad to hear. You guys had something going.
